  • This video shows how to rebuild a deteriorated battery terminal.
In this process carbon rod should not be connected with the battery terminal continivesly to damage the battery.further to prevent this sequence battery caps has to be removed from cells.

We used this method in the army in the 1960’s. We had two special moulds for pos and neg, so this was an officially accepted field repair. You are not short circuiting the battery. The resistance of the carbon rod causes it to glow red.
If it was a dead short the rod wouldn’t heat up (Basic Ohms Law) and you would damage the battery. A vehicle battery can easily handle the current required to heat the rod to red heat for the time required. We didn’t strike an arc but buried the red hot rod into the molten lead while feeding in bar solder. Obviously the skill was in not melting the entire post. I only used this method twice ( once on my own car to save the cost of a new battery) but it was successful both times. You can see from the gauge of wire used in the video that the current isn’t excessive.

You can harvest one of those carbon rods from dollar tree d size batteries. The AA size will get white hot.

*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*

A soda pop can, scissors to cut to a strip battery terminal size, some sandpaper or wire brush to prep the lug. A small container to melt lead in. A bit of flux if desired, usually not needed. Cast and let solidify. Remove aluminum sand if you want to, and enjoy your new lug.🤓

I would think you could try to drill a hole in that terminal and then you know put some threads in it and then you could put a bolt right down the middle of the terminal I think that might work for a while. Then you can crimp some kind of connector on the wire and then both the wire down right in the middle of the terminal

  • @Tiger-md3ym

I agree that using your battery as an arc welder is not a good idea but, using Plumbing solder and a smelter with the tin can form and a propane torch.. I think this might actually work out. I would caution anyone about using a torch on a battery terminal because if the battery gets too hot it can explode as well as it gives off gases that are highly flammable. So this is my disclaimer, attempt this at your own risk. You also have to look at the type of battery, the one in the video is not sealed, LSA or AGM

I've also heard that the Navy used to throw batteries overboard that they considered were dead and the batteries exploded like a depth charge because the saltwater reactivated or something.. dead batteries in salt water blow up. Again, at your own risk
