NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCE Wide Open on a KTM 200

- On Monday afternoon, an immaculate 2006 KTM 200 XC-W popped up on Craigslist just 15 minutes from my house and I simply couldn't resist. The bike has just over 1500 miles on it / 111 hours. I paid $2000 for the bike and it has been meticulously maintained by the previous owner for the last 14 years. I had a 2002 KTM 200 EXC back in high school before I really knew how to ride a dirt bike well. Ever since then, I've wanted to hop back on one of these and ride it the way it deserves to be ridden. The 200 is an incredibly appealing engine to me, with the nimble feeling of a 125 yet power and torque characteristics of a larger displacement bike. Tuesday evening I was itching to ride it, so I took it out to Pipestone where I had an absolute blast ripping this thing, and narrowly survived an encounter with a side by side at wide open throttle.

Hell yeah go the 200 absolutely ktm should not have stopped making them. Ain’t ever selling my 200…
The 2000-2007 KTM 200s have a slightly smaller frame which helps that nimble feel. Also, the power valve is super adjustable from mild to wild, look up the Grant Langston power valve setting on the net, it should still be out there.
Watching this with zero dirt riding experience really makes me feel like you have some magical cheat active.

Ive got a 2020 KTM 350EXCF... BUT I also have a 2013 KTM 200XC-W and its honestly one of my favorite bikes.. It has 125cc agility and weight, but with basically 250cc power..
Its an amazing trails bike and i have the estart on mine and it works awesome for restarting the bike back up in the trail. However, i always cold start it with the kicker. It start first kick anyway so i really dont mind lol. I have the battery out right now so i went back to the kick starter, trying to save alittle weight up that high on the bike. Eventually i might remove the estart motor/cover, but im not sure. Anyway i got the Acerbis VSL LED headlight for it and its great for some night riding!
Look into adjusting the powervalve, i notivced mine took way too long to open, but i think someone had messed with it, either way i went with a setting off from stock that feels perfect, so its worth it either way. Plus its super easy.
The motor responds well to mods too, and im still on the stock exhaust. suspension revalved and im 225. No issues with power for fast single track riding or coal mine hill climbing lol.

What size sprocket(s) you running. I have a 52 on the rear of my '05 200 and sometimes it too feels like each gear falls off before it should.
Mine has a 13/51 on it. I also feel like the gears run out quickly in anything really fast. It demands to be shifted frequently to be ridden fast.

I have just motard mine for street riding. So I ordered a 38T for the rear. That should pretty much "get rid" of 1st & 2nd as I know it, which should be fine as it could easily take off in 3rd. And it will give me another 2 gears on top of what was 6th. It was tapped out in 6th band at 95kph. That cant have been good for it lol

What three sizes do you keep on that t handle ? 8,10,12?
Yeah 8 10 12 and then I think I’ve got 13 14 17 in my pack along with some Allen and torx attachments for KTM sizes

@@Nathan01113not really he's going at a really fast pass which is not allowing him good enough reaction time to slow down like the utv did. I've had this happen at the Black Hills riding with my parents and some guy in a utv coming into a blind turn slamming his brakes lifting one of his rear tires off ground and we are able to stop without having to speed past or almost cause wreck like the guy because we are responsibly trail riding and not going insane speeds or treating trails as tracks. If you are going to go fast maybe make sure you know you can see what is coming up or slow it down a little at least.
