What i love about scar's defeat is that it was all his fault. Like think about it, he finally got simba hanging from the edge with fire under him, he would've just throw him off and kill him once and for all, but instead he freaking gloats and confesses that he killed mufasa, which made simba and the lionesses fight back. And yet he still decides to play the victim by framing the hyenas just to save his own skin which then leads him to a gruesome death by getting eaten alive. All that because of one tiny mistake by confessing. Like really, this is why villains always fail, they just can't resist to mess with the heroes and gloat their upcoming victory only for then the hero getting the chance to take away the victory 😂
I mean Simba was about to die. He had no chance surviving that. But his anger was stronger. I like it if villains do that if the hero is almost about to die. Cause I hate villains that let the hero running around and yapping about they're plan.
Mufasa’s death has been burned into my brain since I was 5 years old. It was my first exposure to the concept of death and loss, and also how far evil can go; that a brother could murder his own sibling out of pure hate and ambition
Interesting fact the piece To Die For (what was played during the stampede) was Hans Zimmer writing for his father. It was a requiem for his father that passed away from cancer. It kills me every time.
I tried to hold myself together.. really, I did. But of course I couldn't. No matter how many times I see this movie, it always leaves me in tears. The soundtrack and everything is just so great.
This is my all time favorite Disney renaissance movie. It was the earliest movie I remember seeing in theaters and it was the first movie I owned on VHS. It’s a GOAT in my eyes. It will also always make me cry in certain scenes.
I watched this in the theater and became a big fan. It was a few months before my father died, which basically ended my childhood. Growing up in the Renaissance of Disney, I enjoyed all the Disney movies but Lion King is on top of my list.
I can relate. My folks died 6 years after this movie was released. I sometimes catch myself still in shock from what happened. I get more emotional with the gorge scene because of how closely it parallels my own experience.
Man your comments are just pure gold. My favorite parts of the movie is the unique zoom into Simba's face when he notices the stampede running down the Cliff hills, and the scene with Mufasa's spirit talk.
This is my #1 favorite movie of all time, I cry every single time I watch it, that Mufasa scene always gets me. I remember my boyfriend took me to see it on Broadway for our first date. I sobbed the moment it started just because of how beautiful it was! Great reaction ❤
This film means the world to me. >w< It is my favorite movie of all time. And it has a sequel. :D If you haven't watched The Lion King II: Simba's Pride yet, I definitely recommend it!
First Mufasa was knocked over by a wildebeest, then jumped up and climbed the cliff, the was pushed off by his brother at what must be at most 100 feet, fell though that tree and then he was trampled by the remaining wildebeest, and I think that's what truly killed him, not the fall.
I saw this in theaters as a kid. We watched this movie every other day in first grade. We all knew the movie word for word and would recite it every single time lol Our poor teachers were talking to each other about how they kept hearing these damn songs in their sleep lmao Disney really did do a phenomenal job with this one. Easily one of their best. It was a deceptively clever way to sneak in a classic Shakespearian story into a Disney film format too. Not in my favorites anymore as I've grown far more selective on classic Disney movies, but it's definitely a fantastic film and a great way to get kids into more elevated and darker stories without really overwhelming them too much. I mean, yeah, we were ALL traumatized to actually SEE them kill off a character in the open like that in an animated movie, but there was enough humor and music and bright colors for kids to recover quickly and adapt. Disney really has a way of taking much darker children's stories and turning them into far more palatable versions of the same story. When I read the ACTUAL original Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson in my early 20s... Holy crap. THAT traumatized me. I was in absolute tears for days lol
@@mazanreacts I don’t think so. Live action feels like it’s missing the soul that this movie has. Others will disagree, so maybe you should watch it for yourself.
“Lions aren’t humans. They don’t have the brains.” Are we missing the portrayals of Mufasa as the voice of wisdom & Scar as the strategic genius? The brothers are both written as highly intelligent. Also, the reason why Scar was not suspected by others for killing Mufasa was because of the mere fact that he’s a FAMILY MEMBER. Lions in this tale are humanized and wouldn’t be thought to be capable of killing a SIBLING or a NEPHEW.
I watched it when I was young like 8 years old but mufasa's death always made me cry. My mom likes it and she's one of those moms that don't like animated films because she thinks it's for kids but she gives Lion King a pass and watched it 2x in a row in recent years and went to the broadway musical.

Same here, my friend. First movie I ever saw in cinema when I was a 4/5 year old (30 years ago), and it's still my ultimate favourite. That movie will forever be a part of me.
This has truly been my favorite movie since my parents took me to see it when I was only 9 months old. Something must have clicked cos it has been a big part of me ever since, even went as far as to play the song "This land" which is one of the instrumentals composed by the great Hans Zimmer at my wedding, and it was epic!
It's so great to see people watching this movie for the first time! It's so rare that people haven't seen it, so I thank you for putting this out there! I was 14 when this movie came out, and I had definitely seen animated movies up to this point, but this was rhe first time I really paid attention to how they made animated films and I drew the characters obseasively. It became my favorite Disney animated film very quickly. And because Elton John had a hand in the music, it also became a favorite of my dad and it is very much a father/son film. Many people were able to use this movie to help their children with the loss of a loved one, so it is also a very spirirual movie. So many layers and so many memories for me. Definitely my favorite Disney film.
The Lion King received a videogame adaptation (for SNES & Genesis), and among its infamous sections, you could only defeat final boss Scar by performing the correct move to throw him off the arena entirely -- you could not win through claws alone.
1. I find I enjoy the first half of this movie exponentially more than the second half. 2. I was unfortunate enough to be going through my parents' divorce around the time this came out, so being close to my dad it naturally took me a good decade before I could watch from the end of Be Prepared to the beginning of Hakuna Matata. 3. The Hyenas did nothing wrong except allow a charismatic leader to trick them into doing his dirty work in exchange for rights they should have always had.
@@mazanreacts yes. Maybe you should watch the second lion king and 1 1/2. Please? The lion king is my childhood disney movie. And they’re actually kind of good in their own ways. And the way lions kiss is licking like cats do. Like what Nala did to Simba before she gave him the goo goo eyes
Im so glad you liked this movie. Its was by far my favorite movie as a kid. My mom said that I genuinely watched almost everyday when i was 4. I would ask to watch it and she would put it on cuz she loved how happy it made me despite how tired she was of it. Its still one of my favorite movies of all time. The story still holds up and it has many great messages. The second movie is pretty good as well. Not better than this one but still good. And it’s definitely on of the best Disney sequels ever made.
actually heres a twist.. scar who's real name is taka got his scar from his dad from motu(from disobeying his mother, leading her to her death, and when taka came back, he lied about what happened to her. motu was in so much rage and horror he put the scar on his eye) years later when motu died.. mufasa became king(with sarabi being the queen) and cause mufasa who not kill his brother cause of the kind-hearted way he is, he allowed scar to stay in "pride rock." you have to remember, these are animals with no humanistic qualities(however, lions in the wild are being researched for 100 years.. with similar social structures as us humans or even gorila's) zazu, the chief advisor to the council appointed by rafiki, and other council member: sarabii, naomi' sarabii second in the hunting party and mother to nala) these are the top lions and friends in pride rock, apart from mufasa/scar. mufasa does keep scar around cause number1: thats his brother, pride lands his home by birthright, even if mufasa didnt die.. and got seriously old..and simba wasnt ready to lead the pride..scar is honor bound to be choose(his birthright) and hes the closet relative to the king(remember line of succession)
This was my all time favourite Disney movie. Then Hunchback of Notre Dame came out and now i have 2 favourite Disney movies. Plus Coco being my favourite Pixar movie
I personally prefer the sequel "Simba's Pride" but the first one is still a masterpiece. Obviously it's just Hamlet but with lions lol Also, Simba's mom's name is Sarabi. Sarabi is a swahili name that means "mirage". Simba means "lion" and Nala means "gift".
My brother was lucky to have seen in when it first came out in theaters and he got the vhs tape when it was released. When I was born my brother would play the movie for me over and over again. I grew up with lion king. I’ve seen it my whole life. I have the movie memorized ! 😆
My siblings like to tease me because of how much I love this movie. Said when I was a kid, I watched it every single day. My oldest brother teased me about it the most. Since his passing, I hold the movie even more dear to me. I watch it when I’m really missing him and can hear him in the back of my mind teasing me again.
Just seeing this video now and I'm sure you probably realized already but its only obvious to us that Scar killed Mufasa. From where simba was, all he saw was his dad fall from the cliff. So all of these years he believes that he is the cause of that incident. This is why he couldn't tell nala and why he felt that he couldn't go back
Favorite Movie as a kid. Know the whole thing by heart. Senior year in high school I’m reading Hamlet and it’s the Lion King. Almost scene for scene with the exception of Scar and Sirabi getting married.
Questioning about why Scar and Mufasa look different, it's because in lion society, there is only one male, and that male gets to breed with all the different females that aren't related to him. Any sons will be chased out of the pride once they're a certain age, to avoid incest and being overthrown. That really makes the romantic relationship between Nala and Simba conserning don't you think?
As a zoologist currently studying lion pride dynamics, I love that you are aware of and have some very solid key facts and points 🙌🏼!. I will add though, that at the time of early story development back in the late 80’s, little was known to the film industry about lion pride dynamics, specifically the roles of males leading prides. Whilst it wasn’t uncommon to see a pride lead by a singular male, it was always more common for males to form coalitions, particularly in Eastern Africa where the film was primarily based. Coalitions will typically consist of brothers and cousins or closely bonded yet unrelated nomadic males… the latter a perfect loophole for Disney to use ..but they didn’t haha. Aaron Blaise (animated young Nala) has explained in livestreams that during development the idea of Nalas father had been suggested and revisited but when it was finally brought up seriously..it was last minute and Tony Bancroft (another amazing animator) explained they just scrapped the idea altogether hoping nobody would really notice it. Even earlier development of the film heavily depicted Mufasa aw Nala’s father, but it was ditched to avoid the notion of incest. It wasn’t until recently that Disney (albeit…via The Lion Guard spin-off series) gave Nala a father and his storyline depiction.
@@theartsyzoologist Yes, I know about the whole males banding together thing lol, I just didn't think it was important to bring up, also, I've seen some theories that Mufasa may not completely be Simba's father. The evidence is with the tufts of fur on the back of his...knees? Idk what you'd call those. While Mufasa doesn't have them, Scar does. And as time went on, people have discovered that lionesses find dark mained males, like Scar, more attractive because they could have stronger genetics, from what I've heard at least. Now, I'm not saying that at the time the movie was made, the animators knew this, maybe they did, maybe they didn't. They could have just put the tufts there for some extra flair. But I still think it's a fun and interesting theory. (I watch a lot of hood nature/casual geographic)

6:27 that was a good way to mislead the viewers. Young cub Simba having an adult lion roar would be impossible. It was actually Mufasa that roared like that. Then years later came the Disney Junior show The Lion Guard where the cub Kion had the power of an adult lion roar called the Roar of the Elders so when fans of the Lion Guard first saw it, they might have assumed that Young Simba might have had the Roar of the Elders.
You said this reminded you of Thor and Loki and that really makes sense even beyond the aesthetics because both The Lion King and the first Thor movie are Shakesperian tales. The Lion King is based on Hamlet, and Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh who has often worked in Shakespeare adaptations (and it shows in Thor).

Elephant graveyards.. so it is known that some species of elephants know when they are close to death and they seek out these secret places where other elephants have gone to die and the result is a bunch of elephant skeletons piling up. They actually do this in real life.

Like really, this is why villains always fail, they just can't resist to mess with the heroes and gloat their upcoming victory only for then the hero getting the chance to take away the victory 😂
he really did just kill himself didn’t he
@@mazanreacts yep 😂😂😂
I mean Simba was about to die. He had no chance surviving that. But his anger was stronger. I like it if villains do that if the hero is almost about to die. Cause I hate villains that let the hero running around and yapping about they're plan.
Mufasa’s death has been burned into my brain since I was 5 years old. It was my first exposure to the concept of death and loss, and also how far evil can go; that a brother could murder his own sibling out of pure hate and ambition
such an awesome movie and i LOVED mufasa, scar is a biiiitcy
In our world there are siblings that hates their siblings and say I didnt ask for you in my life.
@@mazanreacts And Scar looked him in the eyes before murdering him. He wanted Mufasa to know it was him, he was that hateful. Poor Simba 😭
Interesting fact the piece To Die For (what was played during the stampede) was Hans Zimmer writing for his father. It was a requiem for his father that passed away from cancer. It kills me every time.
love hans zimmer! but damn that’s a sad reason:(
also the wildebeest running down the cliff took 3 years to animate.
I saw this in theaters at age 5, and I tell you.. that intro on the big screen.. was EPIC.
i can imagine🥲🥲
I tried to hold myself together.. really, I did. But of course I couldn't. No matter how many times I see this movie, it always leaves me in tears. The soundtrack and everything is just so great.
don’t blame you! it’s a beautiful film with so many emotional moments
This is my all time favorite Disney renaissance movie. It was the earliest movie I remember seeing in theaters and it was the first movie I owned on VHS. It’s a GOAT in my eyes. It will also always make me cry in certain scenes.
it is a great movie, happy i got to watch and experience it with you guys:)
I watched this in the theater and became a big fan. It was a few months before my father died, which basically ended my childhood. Growing up in the Renaissance of Disney, I enjoyed all the Disney movies but Lion King is on top of my list.
damn im so sorry! this movie is beautiful and has a nice way of making you feel like our parents stay with us. your father is still here.
Send you a lot of love, buddy.
I can relate. My folks died 6 years after this movie was released. I sometimes catch myself still in shock from what happened. I get more emotional with the gorge scene because of how closely it parallels my own experience.
Man your comments are just pure gold.
My favorite parts of the movie is the unique zoom into Simba's face when he notices the stampede running down the Cliff hills, and the scene with Mufasa's spirit talk.
ahhh thanks hahaha, it’s such a great movie
This is my #1 favorite movie of all time, I cry every single time I watch it, that Mufasa scene always gets me. I remember my boyfriend took me to see it on Broadway for our first date. I sobbed the moment it started just because of how beautiful it was! Great reaction ❤
it was absolutely sad😭 and thank you!
The animation is old?! Sir this animation is a masterpiece 😭 *cries in 90s kid*
so cute man
This film means the world to me. >w< It is my favorite movie of all time. And it has a sequel. :D If you haven't watched The Lion King II: Simba's Pride yet, I definitely recommend it!
i’m gonna do it very soon! it’ll be up in november
First Mufasa was knocked over by a wildebeest, then jumped up and climbed the cliff, the was pushed off by his brother at what must be at most 100 feet, fell though that tree and then he was trampled by the remaining wildebeest, and I think that's what truly killed him, not the fall.
riiiight okay, im not surprised the man died

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen the movie, the scene where Simba finds Mufasa dead in the gorge always gets me in the heart.
it’s so powerful 😭
@@mazanreacts It really is. It's slightly worse in the Broadway version, when Simba sings a song called *"Endless Night"*
I was in absolute tears for days lol
ah that’s cool tho!
Be Prepared has got to be my favorite villain song. I wish Jeremy Irons was brought back for the live action version
such an awesome song, is the live action worth watching
@@mazanreacts
I don’t think so. Live action feels like it’s missing the soul that this movie has. Others will disagree, so maybe you should watch it for yourself.
“Lions aren’t humans. They don’t have the brains.”
Are we missing the portrayals of Mufasa as the voice of wisdom & Scar as the strategic genius? The brothers are both written as highly intelligent. Also, the reason why Scar was not suspected by others for killing Mufasa was because of the mere fact that he’s a FAMILY MEMBER. Lions in this tale are humanized and wouldn’t be thought to be capable of killing a SIBLING or a NEPHEW.
that makes sense
@@mazanreacts can you consider The Lion King 2 for a future reaction video?

Ah yes, the movie where Darth Vader rules a kingdom with his right hand man Mr. Bean, and raises his son Ferris Bueller.
(I'd mention Jeremy Irons too, but I don't think I've seen any of the other movies he's in 😅)
I was 14 when this movie came out, and I had definitely seen animated movies up to this point, but this was rhe first time I really paid attention to how they made animated films and I drew the characters obseasively.
Definitely my favorite Disney film.
such an amazing film and i’m not surprised that it’s used a lot for spirituality and parents show kids this🥹🥹
The Lion King received a videogame adaptation (for SNES & Genesis), and among its infamous sections, you could only defeat final boss Scar by performing the correct move to throw him off the arena entirely -- you could not win through claws alone.
lmfao thats a cool detail
My favorite movie yes it traumatized but I luv it I also luv the second film too
theyre both so good!
This soundtrack is incredible! The animation was so ahead of its time 1:45
this whole movie was ahead of it’s time
This is my favorite animated movie, I know most of it by heart. My second favorite is Shrek 2.
that’s nuts, it is great tho
3. The Hyenas did nothing wrong except allow a charismatic leader to trick them into doing his dirty work in exchange for rights they should have always had.
that’s sad😭 but yes i agree with the hyenas
Idk why...but the bug eating scene ALWAYS makes we want gummy worms LOL

I'm almost 25 years old and I still well up with tears when Mufasa dies
its such a sad moment though:(
Scar the jealous brother had a son who’s a jealous brother too, ironic right
actually heres a twist..
scar who's real name is taka got his scar from his dad from motu(from disobeying his mother, leading her to her death, and when taka came back, he lied about what happened to her. motu was in so much rage and horror he put the scar on his eye)
years later when motu died.. mufasa became king(with sarabi being the queen) and cause mufasa who not kill his brother cause of the kind-hearted way he is, he allowed scar to stay in "pride rock." you have to remember, these are animals with no humanistic qualities(however, lions in the wild are being researched for 100 years.. with similar social structures as us humans or even gorila's)
zazu, the chief advisor to the council appointed by rafiki, and other council member: sarabii, naomi' sarabii second in the hunting party and mother to nala) these are the top lions and friends in pride rock, apart from mufasa/scar.
mufasa does keep scar around cause number1: thats his brother, pride lands his home by birthright, even if mufasa didnt die.. and got seriously old..and simba wasnt ready to lead the pride..scar is honor bound to be choose(his birthright) and hes the closet relative to the king(remember line of succession)
that is a big twist tbh
This was my all time favourite Disney movie. Then Hunchback of Notre Dame came out and now i have 2 favourite Disney movies. Plus Coco being my favourite Pixar movie
suuuch a great movie!
I personally prefer the sequel "Simba's Pride" but the first one is still a masterpiece. Obviously it's just Hamlet but with lions lol Also, Simba's mom's name is Sarabi. Sarabi is a swahili name that means "mirage". Simba means "lion" and Nala means "gift".
i didn’t know this!
My brother was lucky to have seen in when it first came out in theaters and he got the vhs tape when it was released. When I was born my brother would play the movie for me over and over again. I grew up with lion king. I’ve seen it my whole life. I have the movie memorized ! 😆

Almost scene for scene with the exception of Scar and Sirabi getting married.
that’s so cute hahahah i love the shakespeare of it all
Scar was hurt by father Ahadi. Ahadi
Paid attention only to mufasa but abused scar
Questioning about why Scar and Mufasa look different, it's because in lion society, there is only one male, and that male gets to breed with all the different females that aren't related to him. Any sons will be chased out of the pride once they're a certain age, to avoid incest and being overthrown. That really makes the romantic relationship between Nala and Simba conserning don't you think?
that. that is weird

6:27 that was a good way to mislead the viewers. Young cub Simba having an adult lion roar would be impossible. It was actually Mufasa that roared like that. Then years later came the Disney Junior show The Lion Guard where the cub Kion had the power of an adult lion roar called the Roar of the Elders so when fans of the Lion Guard first saw it, they might have assumed that Young Simba might have had the Roar of the Elders.
such a good move and FILM! loved it. simba roar in the end was awesome
You said this reminded you of Thor and Loki and that really makes sense even beyond the aesthetics because both The Lion King and the first Thor movie are Shakesperian tales.
