I was fortunate and privileged to work with Admiral Fagan when she was at SECNY. She’s a wonderful person and I’m sure she’s going to take the service forward. Thank you CBS for the great report.
I agree. She was such a hard worker, and so competent that she seemed very intimidating at first, but once you speak to her… she’s very much a people’s person and goes out of her way to do the right thing for the service members. Very proud!
If you visit the small towns on the coasts of the US and you'll find places where **everybody** personally knows someone pulled out of the drink by the USCG. I myself live in the Pacific Northwest and we have a lot of respect for the CG around here. For those who'd call the Coast Guard 'puddle pirates' I got two things for you: - The Coast Guard goes out in weather that'd make Santa Claus stay home. They have a saying, 'You have to go out. You don't always get to come back.' - The CG's mission is easily the most complicated in the forces that protect the US. For the armed services, their missions are pretty straight forward. They provide an armed response to those who would make war upon the US. Their enemies are those who choose to be enemies. For the CG it's way different. They not only do armed response, but law enforcement, rescue, first responder, and regulatory missions. The Coast Guard's enemies are Mother Nature and Human Stupidity. Their BEST day on the job is only breaking even!
John on wives computer. As CG vet from the sixties your remarks are so eloquently put. I always remember my company commander in boot camp saying this: The sea is a great and powerful force, you can not defeat it. The best you can hope for is a tie.

always lovely to see a woman in charge of a huge navy fleet. Wait. What? U mean she the first in modern history??? Her minions better start calling her cleopatra.
Great! Now, maybe she can get some new or rebuilt engines for the heavy icebreaker USCGC "Polar Sea", idly moored in Seattle since 2010! And, Lockheed Shipbuilding, you are gone but not forgotten. "Semper Paratus".
There’s already legislation to build four or five heavy icebreakers. Work to start either later this year or early 2022. As for the Polar Sea, the CG has determined it would be costly to refurbish. Instead, she is to be used for spare parts for the Polar Star.
I'm glad that the No. 2 in your country is also a 4 star rank. In my country, only the Chief (No.1) in every law/uniformed agency is confirmed with 4 star ranks while the No. 2 is only a 3 star rank. I hope my country will change the ranks to recognize the achievements of the No. 2.

So much emphasis on gender. Is CBS blaming Coast Guard for not having enough women? How many women decided to volunteer for the Coast Guard to begin with? Go to the local Coast Guard recruiting office and ask them how many females vs males came in that day to service.
I was a recruiter. From 92 in Boise to 97 in Hartford. They closed Boise due to demographics. They made a real effort to recruit more minorities and women. Thankfully I was "Gifted" with an awesome partner. Isabel Caporale. She had not been treated well by our previous command but when they saw our success they gave us each a 10% raise. We worked hard to "Build Bridges" and focus on minority High Schools. It doesn't make you weak to have a diverse work force. I had the honor of flying as a crew on a Falcon jet with Claudia Wells. She retired as 2nd in Command of Airstation Corpus Christi. When I read her Obit. It stated that she was Married to her wife Peggy in 1986. About 10 years before dont ask. Dont tell. You see, we all knew she was gay. But un the Coast Guard we where more concerned with The Content of your Character, than the Color of your skin, or who you loved. As long as you could do your job.
"We always start with the weather, we're a civilian service" couldn't have said it better myself. #seaDOT my bad #seaDHS forgot they moved from DOT to DHS still not DoD lmfao.
its a MILITARY service but not an ARMED service. Because of their law enforcement mission they have to be under a civilian agency due to the Posse Comitatus Act.
@@bob80q yes it's an "armed service"... Armed service is a synonym for military service...but the word itself has no legal meaning. FYI posse comitatus only explicitly applies to the Army and Air Force. However the spirit of the law is reflected in DOD policy and tradition.
And why do you believe she didn't earn it? Russia is able to train and deploy women in their special forces, but you can't stand a woman serving in the armed forces ?

As long as you can tell me what a woman is, I’d say your comment is quite legit! Very historic indeed

Amazed the the coast guard even has a need for four stars given its tiny size.
small? you have no idea what you are talking about, 40,000 members is not tiny not is what she is responsible for, you must be Navy.
Cool!
Why is the ida lewis have just senior chiefs ? That's bouy tender they did a great job
Why can't ONE single Liberal define what a woman is?
Admiral Linda Fagan
Why cant I get picked up?
I’m surprised the admiral’s hat didn’t get blown off during the boat ride

By the way if you gotta life insurance policy don't tell to many people especially if your in the armed services ....

Ease off the gender complaints, trolls. She is qualified. A job well done and continues!
