Where Dragons Show Up in the Bible

- Nahash, tanin, leviathan--the Bible is full of strange words describing a creature many modern readers can’t quite categorize. All these words are ways of referring to a monster of the deep, a dragon. In this episode, Tim and Jon kick off a brand new theme study, the chaos dragon, with a look at the language the Bible uses to describe this creature.

Nachash can also mean "shining one". I've always wondered if this meaning is the one that is intended. This Elohim...part of God's council...shining with the colors of jewels...seduces the woman over time by presenting himself as an incredibly beautiful, shining, "royal god/Elohim from the inner circle" that is full of interesting questions and theories..You don't have the chuckle of a real snake standing up and talking Eve's language in this scenario. . He's a persona/Watcher who is acting in the capacity of an enemy to God...snakey...reptilian...a spirit that chose to become bad and grew in power toward its inner view of itself as a giant, fierce enemy of humanity and God. I thought that the reason God chose this word is because the dragon/serpent is going to be so critical in his overall narrative. The Big Bad, to use Storytelling language, needs to be a big villain so that the hero can become a true champion when he defeats the BB. So, in my interpretation, Nachash isn't a synonym for your other two words. He wasn't created on Day 5. He's been around since God created the Elohim/angelic species. He is a leader with a visual ministry that appears as one of the key leaders in this "political council populated by the Unique One who manifests as 3, his first created species the Elohim, and his new species, humanity. And in one of these meetings the Unique One, The Holy One, let it be known his end result for this new species was to rule over the Elohim, which launched the rebellion out of the pride of never being ruled over by a weaker, body-bound creature with very little knowledge of the metals, the magick, the manifestation of war for power, etc. The Watchers chose to rebel, but first the Nachash was assigned to get the humans to break the commandment out of a lust for power...so that Sin could enter humanity and ruin God's plan for them.

The adversary, dragon, serpent, devil are all biblical metaphor for mans pride. Our old man, our 1st Adam that must be crucified on our own cross of self denial. It was a metaphorical story or a spiritual story not literal.

Can you explain more about the comment that leviathan isnt really bad? That seems dangerous to me, simply because we are not Gods yet who get to say that, like we are children in Gods eyes, who are probably best acknowledging leviathan as bad for us as we are here and now... could it be true that we are getting ahead of ourselves with that philosophy? For example, the "weeds" in my yard, that seem to crop up right next to my flowers so they can get the food and water, seem "bad" to me... but weeds can also be seen as just plants too, just plants we just dont want... but for me, as I am, on this scene of life as it is, a flower garden will always be preferable, and I will probably always need to put the work into eradicating weeds from my gardens... because for me, as well as the majority of passersby, tulips and crocuses in the springtime, will always surpass the ambiance provided by weeds... so I guess I could go at my life with the philosophy that weeds aren't really bad, but I think I'd better be careful, for the day may come when im so convinced about the non-threatening nature of weeds, that I stop pulling them, and thereby forfeit the wonder of gardening... just a thought... dont kill me, I have gotten a lot out of the info. Youre taking the time to share... just had to ask for more on that if possible?
Leviathan relates to our desires, or the seven deadly sins. Within all of those defects are also their inverse which is wisdom and virtue. Knowing how to properly meditate to extract them is a matter of knowledge and pedagogy. We teach our children that fire is not bad, if it’s in the right place, and at the right time. So, we must learn to work with overcoming our desires, to follow the will of God, which can only found in a serene and silent mind and heart. From there we develop intuition to know right from wrong.
It was said to be tamed in I think the Talmud

Isn't the formlessness and darkness over the waters in Genesis 1:1 alluding to the effect of Satan's rebellion and being cast out of the heavens. And effecting negatively God's initial forming of the physical world.

Which version of the bible would you recommend for someone newly to reading the bible?
If your eyesight is fine to read 12 point type (normal for books) then focus on getting a Study Bible. Most of the translations have hired top scholars and pastors to go through the passages and help with the meaning of the passage...and the context in which it fits historically, but also thematically. A study bible will have a selection of ancient maps and nations, plus a concordance and /or glossary to help with the exact word and every place that word is used in the Bible to see if it always is translated or was this usage of the word adapted because of the context.
I have several study bibles. My favorite is the "Spirit-Filled Bible" with Jack Hayford acting as Editor to a strong group of good explainers. It's an NKJV (New King James Version) and you might be able to find a pre-owned one to see if the Holy Spirit can use this resource to help you grow. No matter. Having a dozen different Bibles seems to be somewhat natural to Christians who have been studying for 309-40 years. Daily Bible, Parallel Bible, some current-language adaptations like The Living Bible or The Message, an NIV, because why not?, a NASV, A KJV, and even the chronological bible by Kermit Zarley. That may not be 10, but I'm not near my bookshelves and my memory sucks. Praying for you to relax and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in your new addition to your long-term library.

I was given a Life Application Bible NIV. It has large print and I love it. I find myself reading the study part at the bottom instead of reading the story. It is better for me to cut to the chase because the bible is so hard to understand. Is this OK to read the explained part at the bottom, or is this cheating?
Niv Is pretty easy to understand, also get a study bible, will help you understand things better also
