What I dislike about Tim Scott most--If I became successful, surely anyone else can. That ignores so much. I tend to think of schools. Wealthier neighborhoods have better schools.
Not to mention that poor minorities have higher numbers of broken families and kids growing up in homes without basic needs. Some have to deal with their parent’s mental health issues and drug addiction. I grew up in one of those homes and I had to struggle and work harder than others to get to the same place. With a 7th grade education and broken I had to compete with others that had a supportive family, a safe home to go to, a meal to eat before going to bed every night, and nothing to worry about but school and have fun with friends. So, no. Just because you could do it doesn’t mean anyone can.
The reason Tim Scott acts the way he does is because of one reason and one reason only.....power. He has to appeal to his donors as well as the White, Dixie, Trump-happy majority he represents. It also panders his self-hatred.
Whew!! You should get a Pulitzer Prize for that statement. What you said is the truth. A lot of Black Americans who've 'made it' look their noses down on the less fortunate in our race. They adopt the false notion that since they made it other Blacks are capable of achieving the same level of success. That these token Blacks fail to realize is they had help. They want to get rid of affirmative action and D.E.I. They fail to realize that most Blacks have qualifications that exceed their white competition. But since the cards are stacked against us we don't have the same opportunities as our white counterparts.

This shows that Tim Scott is one of many Trump supported elected officials, who have traded away there morality, integrity, and love for America in exchange for personal gain.
John Coffey's kindness and servility in the face of a system that treats him as a monster for no reason is not a celebration of a character, it is an indictment of the status quo. It should also be seen as an indictment of the protagonist's character; your tears mean NOTHING, prison guards. If you aren't willing to sacrifice anything in return for a man who has given everything, what kind of person are you?

The video talks about the motivations behind these manipulative portrayals of the saviour blacks. White people's conditioned and deeply embedded racist ideology cannot move them along to see the REAL world for what it is. One where their whiteness is not the superior notion they have been wired to believe. So he uses the movies as a easy in and then extends it to the toxicity that plays out in the political realm. The bidders. Like Owens. Like Scott. Who see themselves solely in relation to 'white' and in such a setting their 'learnt' inferiority is kicks in. The only 'success' for them is 'whiteness'. That is tragic. Peychologically, what a lonely place to be.
For Tim Scott to be "magical", he would need to possess some talent or skills that would distinguish himself as such... so far, I have yet to see that.
Magical negro characters didn't have to be literally magical. Sometimes they might have just been very wise or special in some other way. But yeah, Tim Scott doesn't really have that either. He's just kind of service to the main character of Trump. He's more like Samuel Jackson in Django Unchained.
Unfortunately power corrupts no matter what color you are. Jesse sent me. Keep up the good work. Would love to see you hosting your own tv show one day!
Tim Scott has been falling over himself sucking up to Mango Mussolini lately. Seeing him clearly understanding what happened in Charlottesville is more disturbing to me than watching him suck up to America’s Great White Hope. He does KNOW what he does.
Is this where white democrats come to attack free black men because they can't own them like they did 150 years ago? I bet you still wear the hood, don't you?
No. White democrats believe they own black people. They did, after all, own slaves 160 years ago. Nothing has changed. They hate a free-thinking black person who refuses to be "owned". So, just as white democrats started the kkk to murder freed slaves they couldn't own, they attack those they can't own now. The worst part is they have convinced black democrats who they "own" to attack them. They do this to keep the ones they "own" from wanting to be free. Tim Scott and Candace Owens are free, living their free lives. Candace Owens is brilliant and one of my favorite people. If she ever decides to run for anything she has my vote on lock. You should let them be free. Republicans don't own people, they free them. We never have owned people. We have never wanted to. Take care.
Agree with The Green Mille allegory. Leave the matrix out of this. Morpheus believed that Neo was the key to what remains of humanity to survive and sacrificed himself for that belief, which turned out to be correct. Neo wasn’t racist, and had a respect for Morpheus before they even met. Listened to him blindly from day one. They had a mutual faith in each other. Neo literally dies saving Morpheus.
Fascinating-how you connected the magical negro trope to Tim Scott. I see it. Almost 15-years ago, I did a paper on the trope’s presence in the 2008 film - The Secret Life of Bees. I am a film fanatic, however, prior to that I had not realized how prominent the use of that theme was. From that point on, I could not stop talking about it. Well done. Keep doing what you do.
This trope has existed since Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin. Malcolm X spoke on the same trope many times. I'm white from rural Middle Tennessee, trust me Tim racism is quite alive here. The south is only 60 years removed from Jim Crow and Black Code, meaning there are both black and white people still alive that know it not as history but as a daily reality.
Yes as a white person I deal with racism every day...unlike the privileged blacks who actively seek out their oppressors for government handouts and freebies
The “I love you” after his campaign sums up who Tim Scott is, and who he has always been….. His Black 💳 never had a chance to get revoked. He cut up his own card years ago.
What would critical thinkers say about so-called oppressed people that cross oceans and borders to force their way around their so-called oppressors while pretending to be the victims of the people that were leaving them alone?
Other than Token from South Park, Tim Scott may be the best example of a 'token black guy'. That could be recency bias. There's probably better examples I can't recall.

He was truly a tortured soul and he wanted to die - he wanted release from his "gift". It didn't matter what color John Coffee's skin was; the story was about how what so many people would have thought was a blessing was, in fact, a curse. Paul Edgecomb (the Tom Hanks character) was going to work to get Coffee released and Coffee wouldn't let him, begged him not to. I only watched the movie once because it really annoyed me (as so many movies from Stephen King's books do) so I don't recall if they followed this part of the story or not, but taking the disease of the warden's wife into his body ... that wasn't Coffee being magical or altruistic... Coffee was getting himself a murder weapon that he then took back to the green mile and used it to kill the guy who had really killed those little girls. Edgecomb wasn't the hero of the book, Coffee was. It's a common theme with Stephen King, to use frequently marginalized people as heros. Sorry for the long post. 😏

Excellent analysis! What I appreciate most about this video and your last on Clarence Thomas, is that you’re ultimately highlighting the significant influence both of these individuals have on a demographic group that I believe they genuinely started out wanting to serve. The question that is rhetorically posed, is how does one prevent this evolution from happening, especially in politics?

Mr. Hayes, I enjoyed listening to your argument. Thank you for conducting granular research regarding this topic. I'll continue to watch your future videos.
Well thought and well spoken. I am great full for the respect that you showed Mr. Scott. We do not have the luxury of disrespecting each other in front of white people. Well done sir well done! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I watched your interviews with black conservatives. Very well done. I am not a black conservative, but one person I think you might want to have a conversation with is Michael Steele. I think he could give up interesting perspective of what his views on and his disappointment in his current party. He is a strong support of the Lincoln project. I think you can get a great perspective from him.
I think the thing with Magical Negro characters is that they aren't trying to be offensive, they're usually actually trying to be the opposite. Generally written by a white author as a simplistic example of how black people are good and racism is bad, very similar to the Noble Savage trope. And like that trope, it ends up being offensive because it flattens the characters into simple-minded caricatures and celebrates their merits on the basis their ability and willingness to provide help to the white protagonist who they usually have no real relationship to.
Since when did one's personal success refute the reality of systemic, racial discrimination in America? So, is Tim Scott basically saying: "I don't suffer from cancer, therefore there's no cancer in the world?" Embarrassing!
Why is he suppose to be a Democrat and "toe the line"? As the presenter said he is entitled to his thoughts. His choice does not make him immune from critique, and just because he chose a "line" doesn't make it automatically great.
This is such thoughtful analysis. Thank you for sharing. I’ve never thought about the movies you shared in this light, but you’re absolutely correct. Thank you for shining your light, young man. Keep up the fantastic work.
When I hear politicians talk about corporate tax breaks, I think sellout. When I heard black republican politicians talk corporate tax breaks, I REALLY think sellout. Because you know damn well that money never has and never will get back to the poor community
Although I don't blame these black actors for taking these financially lucrative roles... l absolutely hate movies where we sacrifice our lives to save white people lives as if that is the noble thing to do. I was not very happy about how Roland Kelly's choose to die in the movie "Freddy vs Jason". And I was extremely disappointed in the way that Morgan Freeman's character volunteerly gave his life in the movie "Red 2", so that Bruce Willis and the rest of his white friends could escape and continue to live. And I have absolutely no respect at all for Tim Scott and others like him.
Many years ago I was in the company of a very unpleasant East European fellow who was going on a tirade about gays, blacks, immigrants, Jews …and at that point he stopped and said “but not you.” At that point I had to decide if I was gonna let bygones be bygones. Tim Scott has to make those calls every day.
From David A. Wood: Hello again, fellow TH-camrs! David from Kettering, Ohio is back here. I just want to thank Mr. Garrison Hayes for his alternately entertaining/informative show about "The Magical Negro" trope.Thank you very much, Mr. Hayes, and I am very sorry that I did not mention your name in my previous text. Thanks again and I am sorry for my unintended omission! Goodbye for now and have yourselves a nice Thursday evening (April 11, 2024). Peace Out from Kettering, Ohio for sure this time! ☮️🇺🇸😃👍
Nicely done. Analysis rather than simple accusation. Thank you for examining an actual policy (the tried and true "opportunity zone" hustle) to show real time harm caused by conservative slight of hand. The transition from examining the archetype to applying it to Scott was smooth but incomplete. What harm is he absorbing on behalf of his white benefactors? How does the trope manifest in Scott's career? How is he being used on behalf of white interests? The answers are implied and frankly well understood by most black people but a little more could be done to make the connect between type and anti-type tight. Great presentation, thought provoking. Thank you.
Great notes! Like I said, this is really a starting point. I certainly agree that muchhh more can be said. Especially by way of demonstrating Scott’s role of “ingesting” the poison/disease on behalf of the GOP; which, in my view, is an apathy toward poor people. I mostly felt the need to finally get this video out sooner than later. More to come! Thanks for the constructive crit
Thank you for this video. I'm white, middle aged, southern, living in Texas. "The magical negro" concept is spot on. I have maintained blindness of this, never actually considering the concept/character. I believe a similar concept can be applied to tribal people throughout the Americas. You may have read Sherman Alexie. It came to my mind that this magical character might have roots in minstrel shows. My mind is now a whirlwind of thoughts of what I have blindly accepted that actually was this sort of character. I really appreciate your knowledge & humane logic.

Wow another banger Garrison! honestly never knew about Tim Scott before this video, but your explanations of his views is connecting some dots for me.
Always great to see you in comments! Thanks for watching.
I'm from a very old world part of KY, and I guarantee you that this man has been called " one of the good ones" to his face like it was legit high praise. There is no redemption for racism... Only removal.
I’m so thankful I found your channel
This Tim Scott is the same today as he was yesterday! He just told 45, "Because I just love you"
Never thought I’d see such a good video essay on Tim Scott lmao but it’s the exact kind of content I want. This is the first video I’ve seen from you and I’m definitely going to check out more. Would love to work with you something :)
Can we all say joke. When we say Tim Scott.
Very eye opening information .....loving the hell out this channel been watching your content back to back...thanks again for what you do Sir,
This was extraordinary. Thank you! Keep up the amazing work!!!
You were spot on with this one! Thanks!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Mr. Hayes, I enjoyed listening to your argument. Thank you for conducting granular research regarding this topic. I'll continue to watch your future videos.
I needed this ty my brother
Thank you so Very Much for assisting me in Understanding the mindset of this image from Both sides! Please Keep up the Good Work!!
I am loving your work brother 👊🏿
Great analysis and commentary!
Senator Mushmouth... So fitting
He likes to put a mushroom in his mouth
Diaper Don has dirt in Timmy. He has to start groveling
I'm very impressed with these analytics. 👏
Nall, they didnt decide to kill John Coffee, He wanted to die. They wanted to save him, even with the cost, but he was tired of living.
Plus it doesn't matter whether they believed he was innocent or not. We don't execute people based of what the guards think.
Tom Tim is who he is.
Great video .!!! Tim Scott Has lost is black card Never Vote for GOP .!!!
Tim Scott turns my stomach. He’s sick.🤢 subscribed👍🏿
Since when did one's personal success refute the reality of systemic, racial discrimination in America? So, is Tim Scott basically saying: "I don't suffer from cancer, therefore there's no cancer in the world?" Embarrassing!
I also came from Dollermore . Thanks for the Education . I am now a subscriber . Keep up the good work 👏
Wow...i never got this perspective before. I appreciate this young man. Speechless..keep it up
I can't stand when someone won't toe the line! Doesn't Tim Scott know he's supposed to be a Democrat and pro-Black?
Did you even watch the video ? Or just left the typical low hanging fruit, simplistic white supremacist comment ?
Why is he suppose to be a Democrat and "toe the line"? As the presenter said he is entitled to his thoughts. His choice does not make him immune from critique, and just because he chose a "line" doesn't make it automatically great.
This is such thoughtful analysis. Thank you for sharing. I’ve never thought about the movies you shared in this light, but you’re absolutely correct. Thank you for shining your light, young man. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thank you for this.
When I hear politicians talk about corporate tax breaks, I think sellout. When I heard black republican politicians talk corporate tax breaks, I REALLY think sellout. Because you know damn well that money never has and never will get back to the poor community
EXCELLENT PROGRAM!! WELL DOCUMEN TED!
I just discovered this channel and have been binging every video. Incredible work!
Many years ago I was in the company of a very unpleasant East European fellow who was going on a tirade about gays, blacks, immigrants, Jews …and at that point he stopped and said “but not you.”
At that point I had to decide if I was gonna let bygones be bygones.
Tim Scott has to make those calls every day.
I am a new subscriber. Thank you for articulating the ideas that are running through my head!
Garrison, sir, you are a genius. Thank you.
Always good to see a conversation about cinethetic racism. ❤❤
Great Perspective keep Doing what you’re doing . I couldn’t agree with you more .
This is deep!!
No matter what Tim Scott has done and will do he will always remember for saying "I LOVE DONALD TRUMP".😮
Great job eye opening thank you
I really enjoyed this. First time I’ve come across your content but much to my joy! Good stuff 💯
Tim’s lullaby:
“I wish i may,
I wish I might,
Be as white,
As I am bright.
But life is good,
And it ain’t hard
When you’re hangin’ on
To Trump’s petard.”
