My grown Granddaughter wanted one of my hand knit shawls. I made her one and she loved it. About 3 months later I went over to her apartment, and there in her room, was the shawl, in a wad on the floor, in the dust. I didn't say anything and just figured I wouldn't knit anything for her again. Then like a year later she comes to me and says, Gramma, I get it now. I didn't understand the work and love that went into making that shawl, but my friend told me about the knitting community and that a lot of college age people were into knitting and that if you get something hand knit, it was special. She did a complete turn around and since then I have made her another shawl.
Sandra, this is both heartbreaking and heartwarming in equal measure. I'm so glad that your granddaughter has come to value the work and love that makeup a knitted gift. And it's cool that she sort of discovered that while on her own journey into the knitting community. ❤
Maybe next time she will show you what she knitted herself!
There are very few people I will knit for because of what you experienced. But I am constantly knitting little stuffies or do-dads for my grands (well, less so now that there are three of them and they require more of my time when I'm there). And they think Auntie's fingers are magic or something.
I recently knitted a bigger giraffe for one of them and it took awhile. I think them being older and seeing how long that process took has helped them appreciate a little more. But they're only 4 and 6, so I can only expect so much!
My new project is lining a bag full of knits my mom made for their mom with soft cotton jersey fabric. She knit with scratchy acrylic (the old stuff was pretty awful) and the kids won't wear them. So I thought this would be a way to preserve her handiwork. Wish me luck! I just bought the fabric for the first one.
My grandchildren school teaches the students to knit in first grade and crochet in sixth grade, so they hath a great appreciation for any hand work. I made my granddaughter a pair of felted wool mittens for her 9th birthday last winter. Her mom made sure to let me know how proud she was to show everyone at school to mittens her grandmother had knit especially for her. She was very proud of them and received so many nice compliments. That really warmed my heart. I made my daughter a headband from a super wash merino wool she had gifted me several years ago. She said she loved it and knew other ladies in her office would be coveting one of their own. I made a couple pair of slippers for a special friend of my daughter that had been very supportive and kind. My daughter says the friend wears them always at home and really loves them. It's nice when you find people who appreciate your work. Not everyone does but I am blessed to have people I can bless with my gifts.

My Son Was Taught Early To Prize Hand Work & Makes His Own.
Teach Children To Value Their Property, And Don't Give Them Handmade Masterpieces Because ALL Children Are Children & Even If They Value An Item, It Can Be Dropped, Forgotten, Or Damaged By Accident. If You Love An Item, Make Them A Duplicate Or A Clone But Not The Original.
Several years ago, I knit some fingerless gloves for my husband, who was a rural mailman. He drove with his window down on the mail truck, going from mailbox to mailbox at speeds up to 50 mph. He needed his fingers free to sort and grab the mail easily. Since we live in Minnesota, the temperatures get down in the minus zeroes quite often. I added a little pocket at the top of each so he could slip in the disposable hand warmers. He loved them and all of his coworkers were jealous.
For the record, saying that most acrylic yarns feel "plasticy" shouldn't be offensive to anyone. That's literally what acrylic is. You're fine. Love you videos. :)
I really appreciate that, but I guess I personally just don't like the sound of "plasticky" as it relates to acrylic yarn in general. I'm not concerned about offending anyone per se but rather adding to the whole "acrylic is cheap" trope with words like "plasticky" and "squeaky". Trust me, if I ever happen to acquire a particular acrylic yarn that fits the "plasticky" bill, I'll let y'all know within the context of a yarn review. In much the same way as I'd let y'all know if an all-wool yarn I happen to be using feels like dry straw. 😅
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS Those of us who lived through the era of "plasticky " Orlon acrylic chevron striped afghans are certainly not going to fault you for being open with your own personal opinions regarding synthetic yarns. I have several afghans made by my long deceased grandmother who bought what yarns she could afford from Woolworth's after synthetics largely replaced wool. I keep them for sentimental reasons of course, but I don't use them. Granted, the quality and softness of acrylic has improved incredibly over the last several decades.

My Gosh, That Was Forever Ago & That Yarn Was **not** The Softest Acrylic... He Always Loved It To Death & Eventually Outgrew It Before He Would Take It Off 😂 Immediately Wanted New Ones. So Cute. He's 14 Now And Will Be 15 In June.
I’m a practical knitter and totally understand waiting to knit for kiddos until they can actually like and use the knits! You’re not alone! ❤
I am totally a selfish knitter! I've made things for my grandmother&mother but most of my knitting is for me alone. Folks tell me I should sell the stuff I make all the time and I've tried but it just takes the fun out of it. For me, it's super important that whoever I'm crafting for will really value what I've made for them which is why I often say no when folks ask me to make things for them.
This is really interesting because I think a lot of knitters experience this in a similar way: we develop the skills, we get good at them, our family and friends take notice and recommend selling our knits, we're enticed at the prospect...only to realize that monetizing our hobby can often lead to it becoming a source of stress more than joy. This is a great topic for a Midweek Ramble video actually...🤔
And yes. I completely agree with you. Evaluating 'knitworthiness' is really important before taking on a project as a gift knit. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. ❤️

When my kids were little I was learning to knit, so I knit them each a hat and a blanket and that was it. Once they hit mid high school they started asking for fingerless mitts etc. Most recently I just finished knitting my future daughter in law’s wedding shawl!!! The wedding is less than a week a way - cue the tears. I wasn’t knitting constantly for my kids other than what I mentioned. I don’t think you’re a selfish knitter.😊

I know the amazing feeling of people asking and honestly appreciating what I knit for them. Seems the more they gush, the more I knit for them, and of course, those that politely thank me don't get any more knitted goodies!
It really is the best. And I love how you say those that "politely thank me". That's exactly what it's like. We don't want "polite"! We want the red carpet rolled out and a band to play for Pete's sake!! ☺

I completely understand . My 7 year old grandson has alway been aware of my sewing and knitting. One day he asked for “ the thing around your neck” a scarf. He picked out the yarn and now Carrie’s in his backpack to school. So nice when they come to you and appreciate.
Omg! Thank you for acknowledging why I prioritize knitting for people who request/value homemade gifts. I’ve been debating whether to knit my cousin’s son items but I don’t think they would appreciate it as compared to a store bought present- I’m a selfish knitter as well but it also takes me a long time to make an object so if I do knit for someone, it’s because they specially requested it. Thank you for acknowledging only knitting for people because they will treasure it and not just because you feel like you need to give them a gift.
My grandchildren have sooo many toys, so I've been knitting birthday sweaters this past year, and they seem so excited to get them. This year I knit Amelia the Duck for my 1yr-old granddaughter....and all the other grandkids wanted animals for Christmas, so that's what I'm working on now...and it is a pleasure, and I tell myself that I should do it now because later they may not be so into knitted gifts. Well....I'm so looking forward to some knitting for myself!....but then I remember that the twins birthday is February. I thought to skip knitted birthday presents for 2023....but I do think 5yr-old Rowan (the girl twin) would just adore a little poncho!, although who am I kidding....I'd love for her to have one, since it brings back memories of ponchos that my mom knit for me 😊😊
This made me smile and chuckle Sandra. It's so special that you do this for the little ones in your family and you're so right. Do it now while they appreciate and maybe that will carry over as the grow. Gosh, he Amelia the Duck sweater sounds just precious! And a poncho....hmmmm...I have two nieces (one 4 and one 8) that would totally wear ponchos. I need to consider that!

I love knitting for my kids and my husband. They really love and appreciate it. Too often I knit for other people, after they specifically request it, only for them to never wear or use the item. So, I just stopped knitting for them, lol!
Omg! When my grandson asked me to make him some “broken finger gloves” my heart swelled with love. I so understand what you felt.
Ah that's so sweet. Isn't it a magical feeling how in a flash we just melt into these selfless knitters for our babies (or babies' babies)? ❤️
I completely relate to your experience of not knitting for your kids when they’re really little. I knit a couple of things for my daughter when she was about a year and she didn’t love them or wear them. I just left it and enjoyed knitting for myself and she started to see some of the things I was knitting. Now she asks for things like shawls to wear outside and “button sweaters” and it’s so much more exciting to work on projects for her now!
I just started crocheting last week. I already have a list of projects that my husband requested, in addition to projects for my sister’s and mom’s birthdays. 😂
I didn’t knit much for my kids when they were younger. Mainly because they would grow out of things before I could finish them! I tried knitting a sweater for my son when he was a baby and he only wore it a couple of times before it was too small 😭 Hats and mittens were what I made since then. This year I started making them socks because they asked and they actually do wear them. My son thinks fingerless mitts are cool/awesome. He wears them as though they are superhero gear 😂
Thank you for sharing your knitting journey with knitting for your children. I love knitting for people but it's always a little discouraging when I never see the babies in the sweaters or hear about how warm the hat or scarf is. I've pulled back and knit mainly socks and hats for me and my husband, as he wears his socks everyday and it's so nice to see the knit getting some love. I love watching your podcast because I learn so much about yarn choices. I typically choose sock yarn, it's flexible for me, but I'm learning a lot with your yarn pairings, can't wait to see those dog walking mitts! And, I wanted to let you know that one of my granny square blankets is finally complete! I just need to weave in the ends and give it a wash. Thanks for keeping me company.

And yes. Discouraging is a great word for that. I feel like this commercial world we live in just doesn't lend itself to embracing handknits for those who just don't have the same appreciation knitters/crocheters do for them. That's sad. However what you said about the knit socks is really telling about what opens people's eyes to the beauty of something handknit. Nothing keeps your toes warm like hand-knit woolen socks. Our husbands get it. Perhaps knit socks are really the best gift knit since it's almost a surefire bet in terms of whether or not the recipient will get use out of them. Ah, the struggles we face. 😊

I knit quite a bit for my kids, but yes, it’s a great feeling when they ask. My 16 year old asked for mitts this summer after complimenting the socks I was knitting for myself, my 13 year old and I picked out a hat kit together at a fiber festival, and my 8 year old just asked for a colorwork hat last night after admiring the sweater I’m working on. ❤
The lure of small, quick projects has been my biggest motivator for knitting for my children when they were small. I've found that the older they get, the harder they are on their knits (even when taking care of them well), and the longer it takes to make things for them. My toddler still gets sweaters here and there when I need a palate cleanser from larger projects. My older kids have all phased out of asking for knits from me so I just knit for myself now.
The only knit item my daughter wears is a fluorescent pink cowl knit out of Lion Brand’s Go For Faux yarn that I found at the dollar store. Kids really don’t care about fiber content, they want the fun colored yarn and that’s ok!
Funny enough, I only started knitting to make wool diaper covers. But other than that, I haven’t knitted a lot for my kids. My oldest asked for a sweater one year and my youngest asked for some socks. Im mostly a selfish knitter. 🙈 my kids are the same age as yours so I expect more knitted requests in the future too. My 7 year old loves suri alpaca.

I dont have kids but i do crochet and knit things for my sisters baby. My love langiage is gift giving so im constantly making something and giving it to someone. I do knit stuff for myself but a majoriting of my crochet/knit things go to other people. People also tell me to sell my work. They also tell me that im super talented and should make patterns. Im good but not that good lol. Maybe one day. I do alot of alertaions with my projects but they dpnt always go as planned lol.

I'm very fond of that Heartland Tweed. It's super cute and fun to look at while you use it, and I was pleased that the little confetti bits don't fall off much while you work it.
I totally feel that about knitting for kids. I crocheted lovies for them but that’s mostly it? I can see when they’re older making them things but they grow so fast and lose things…so probably some day, but not now.
My thoughts exactly. I would love to crochet some lovies for the boys. They are just crazy about them.
My knitting was the opposite of yours. I knit a bit earlier, but not frequently. However, when I got pregnant, I wanted to knit for my baby. So I began with a newborn set. Then a blanket. And a suit for the winter. And a sweater for later. By then I had trouble walking or sitting straight, so knitting was something to do while waiting.
I almost fell off the knitting wagon after the birth, then the pandemic hit. After that I have been a knitter.
My knitting is very much fueled by love, as in making sure my children are protected from the cold. We live in a cold and wet climate, and in a culture where children are outside a lot. Woolen knits are the best for keeping warm when outside for hours in wet or freezing weather.
Knitting for my children, especially something they need, also helps me get things finished. Even the boring things, like ribbed pants or the second mitten.
I have some sensitivities to texture and acrylic is one of the only materials I can handle knitting with, so it's funny to me when people say they don't like the texture lol, but hey, as you say, if acrylic is what speckles my yarn, there's nothing wrong with that!
100%. If it works for you, who cares what other people say. It's like folks who don't like bananas because they have "texture issues". Like, Ok. Cool for you. I'm going to eat bananas though so...

Totally related to your feeling/ thoughts on knitting for others(kids included). I am a slow knitter so I feel like my knitting is valuable to me and the end products as well. My 7-year-old daughter asked me to knit her a couple items and I have to wait till I finish my husband's giant sweater (also the first time I knit a sweater for him)...We shall see how this goes. haha I miss knitting for myself... I think after all these "knittings for others" are done, Flex will be commenced! Love your podcast!

I'm doing a sweater right now (not the one you mentioned). I'm starting the arn now. It has no shaping & shaping. Did the body as no shaping. So I thought of the no shaping for the arms. I like it tighter around my wrist. Thank you for showing what you did.
I blended 2 yarns on another pattern black gray splash of blue & blended with a fuzzy blue (wool & silk lace weight) changed the color from the black to a denim color. Beautiful 😊
I love knitting for myself, but I also do like knitting for my young daughters. They are only 2 & 4 but they love it when I knit them something! As soon as I have a project off the needles they immediately want to wear it.

i think it’s so sweet the kids are asking for knits but i also think it’s okay that you knit for yourself! as a mom, you give
so much and sometimes you need to be a little selfish and have something that’s your own.
additional question- when you forgo the eyelet design in the felix pullover, do you replace the yarn overs with M1L/M1R?

If you want the Felix pullover longer, would you consider removing the ribbing by cutting it off and then knit two more inches. And then graft your ribbing back onto the sweater. I have done this once, and honestly it was very easy.😊
Hmmm I never considered this. Perhaps I need to look into that because the idea of ripping it all out and re-knitting it may be enough to keep me from doing it...Thank you Sherrie!

I have only knitted 1 vest for my 20 month old son. For my kid(s), I plan on quilting since they don't outgrown a quilt quite as fast and my husband doesn't like hats, shawls or sweaters so quilts for him too! No shame. You do what works for you and the family.

I occasionally make things for my (adult) kids. My youngest enjoys hats because he's outside all the time as a mechanic for a rental company. My oldest son wears them because he likes them. My daughter, I don't knit much for her because she's a knitter, too. I made her the Pebble Beach shawl for her wedding, because it was in September and you never know. It turned out that at 10 PM it was 90 degrees, so it was unnecessary, but she has a few pics with it. And she wears it all winter long. As for my grandsons, I make them mittens because they knit up fast and they are constantly losing them. I can knit a pair in between their visits and the ones that go missing? I suspect I'm supplying the entire grade school with mittens, which is fine. My granddaughters I make them toys, hats, mittens because they like them. I made two of my grands a cardigan, but I don't think they ever wore them, so no more cardigans. Just accessories.
This is really amazing AND inspiring. I think I’ve been bitten by the knit-for-your-kids bug actually so I see myself going down this same road. And that’s cool with me. ❤️

We have three granddaughters, 13, 11, 9. The two older girls are no longer into hand knits. But youngest showed me photos of tanks she saw when She and her mother were shopping. I said I can make that and she lit up. I was hooked at that moment. I Found the pattern My Little Secret Crop. I knit it longer than pattern and it looked great on her. I finished it three days before her birthday and she loved it. Score!
Such a beautiful sweater that you are wearing at the beginning of the podcast. I picked up a bag of variegated mohair at a garage sale and am trying to decide what to use for the background base, that deep blue is gorgeous. Totally relate to the knitting story - though I knit tons for him for in utero to probably elementary school, when he started to prefer store bought items (sigh). He runs hot so he never wears sweaters (even in Minnesota), so no knit sweaters for him.
I felt too busy raising them to knit for them, especially if you are working or running a business. However I love the idea now that they are grown.

I’m making a sweater for my son now. For many years he was really not interested in me making something for him, but he’s 13 now and wanted a certain sweater. So nice to be asked to do it!
Oh Tayler, your short mitts are going to be exquisite! I can’t wait to see that natural gray and moody mohair/silk knit up! Your son’s mitt is darling and I understand how gratifying it is when your kids ask you for a knitted item, so wonderful! A little piece of you is always with them. Lastly, that dark caramel color that is your Felix is so rich and warm! Great work!

I learned from your thoughts on the qualities of the Lion Brand option, too, and love your (bougie-budget series/theme) research, info and reflections.
(Btw, I am suddenly/surprisingly playing with improvisationally crocheting and knitting “stuffies” - some characters/objects with eyes/faces, and some plain, like little mushrooms. It is creative fun and brings joy😀…in a time when wholesome delight is often needed and welcomed.)

And I'm so glad that you're finding the talk on yarn options helpful. I think it's important to explore what we have available to us. And I'm loving your dive into crocheting stuffies! I actually saw some patterns for just that sort of thing the other day and wondered if I could get into that. My boys LOVE their stuffies (they call them 'friends') and would go nuts if I crocheted one for them each. Hmmmmm.....Thank you for the inspiration. And yes. We need these wholesome diversions these days. ❤️
Kitting (or sewing) for kids is such a weird psychological space. Some kids get in this place where all they want it a "store bought" something- because kids want to be like everyone else. Then they have a a parent who says- Not buying a [insert name of thing] , I can make one for less, or better, or whatever and they get resentful. But if you never make things for them, at some point they may ask- and you are totally right- that is the BEST. It means they pay attention to you, they really like what you make, they appreciate your time and effort and they are proud of you. So much better when they ask ;-) A friend of mine has a husband who was not interested in her knitting- or so she thought. She once overheard him talking to someone about the BEAUTIFUL, amazing work she did. Needless to say, she about melted.
I think knitting for the little tiny ones is tough, they outgrow things before you can finish them!
I'm enjoying the updates on the Felix sweaters. I'm in another KAL, so maybe next year. I did discover that I can't knit socks and watch football at the same time....redoing that heel flap now!

Ooh loving those rainbow tweed neps. I'm kinda picky about hats, so my go-tos are Musselburgh by Ysolda and Oslo Hat by Petite Knit. Everyone is getting an Oslo for Yule this year lol. I think I'm literally making at least 6.
Oh my goodness this is so relatable! My second object I ever knit it was a baby bonnet and after that became a selfish knitter lol😅 my 6 yo asked for a sweater last year and I put it off for a few months until we went to our lys and she picked some yarn 🙈she asked again for a sweater so I finally caved and now I have made her headbands mittens etc.😂 AND my 4 yo wants a sweater 😅😅 at least their little knits are fast.

I am the same way and have not really knit for my kids (3 and 10 months). I just recently knit my daughter (3) her first sweater - and only because I had enough scraps for one. But she loved it which makes me want to knit more for her! So I completely understand what you mean by only wanting to spend time knitting for your kids if they appreciate it.
Tayler, thanks for your videos, they are truly inspiring. I took up knitting a few years ago but started with making a multitude of mitered squares. This year I knit my first sweater and have since added a dozen garments to my wardrobe. I saw on your podcast the Sunday socks. I have knit only one other pair of socks but you seem so enthusiastic about these socks. Given your shop update this weekend, what do you recommend as a good yarn for an awesome pair. I totally love them. Knit them in something soft and squishy and you'll fall in love with the process as well. I knit mine with two strands of single ply fingering together, but any worsted to aran weight yarn will do beautifully.
I made my 6 yr old son a hat with that last yr!! It’s his favorite hat 😃 hope you son loves it too!

Love the mitts! Aside from baby blanket, I don’t knit or crochet for small children. They grow so fast and can only wear them a few months. My boys are adult/teens now and I’ve recently started making hats and mitts for them. I live in Henderson too and fingerless mitts are perfect for our winters. I will be making some of your fire pit mitts soon. My oldest is in Idaho at college. He got two feet of snow last night! I’ve been making him hats and scarves and mitts. I’m going to give the LB fishermen wool a try.

Im not that person either, knitting for my kid. Cuz hes been growing so fast he would have grown out of it fast. And I also just rekindled my love for knitting, because Im always so busy but need something I love to do for my downtime.

Im the same. I do not enjoy knitting things not using or enjoying my knits.ive made SO many mittens for my girl double knit always adjusting size so no extra sticking out. I have short fingers and always felt annoyed and handicapped by those fingertips sticking out
I'm a beginning knitter so I haven't made anyone in my family anything yet. I have a niece and nephew who are 6 and 4. They live in Florida so they are mostly in shorts and flip flops most of the year. I'd like to see least make my niece an ear warmer once I try to make one.
I think once we discover new skills that can be used to make things for people, we become overzealous in terms of all of the things we want to produce (that overzealousness never goes away, BTW). In the beginning, knit for yourself. Just my two cents. And welcome to the rabbit hole! ❤

the quality of your video is astounding - I'd love to know what camera and lens you are using?
I think that the lower quality acrylic/polysester yarn feels crunchy and stiff (because of the plastic) - but I agree about Lion Brand! Their acrylic and acrylic blends feel much more fibrous and soft. Lion Brand is one of my favorite more accessible brands because of that :)

I knit my 11 year old a sweater with Sailor Moon inspired yarn, and my 4 year old mittens. Both asked, just like you I don’t knit for my kids. But maybe that once or twice a year knit would be sweet

Hello - I just watched you video on making little items as quick gifts, sorry I forget the title at the moment. But you showed a design that was your own, you were knitting a hat for your son, so my question is, can the hat be knitted with regular needles instead of circular ? I am teaching myself to knit and while I do have a few circular needles, I'm a little intimidated with knitting in the round. So I wanted to try something that was easy first and then maybe try it in the round and see how that also works up.

I didn’t knit for my son when he was little, probably because we lived in Chandler, AZ, which very seldom requires anything more than a hoodie. Now that we live in Oregon, he refuses to wear anything other than hand knit socks year round. He’s 24. No hats - he has natural curly hair and it tries to eat hats. Just socks. Did I mention he’s a size 12 foot? His socks take FOREVER

I am currently making the North sea hat. The gauge for the hat is 23 stitches 32 rows, so it is closer to a DK weight. It is still nice and lightweight though. :)

Hello from the snowy, cold Yukon! ☃️ Your No Frills is wonderful! The colour is perfect! I love to knit with mohair, because of the added warmth that I am always looking to boost, because of where I live. Same thing goes for nonsuperwash, it’s too cold here for superwash, except in the summer. It’s not a prejudice - lots of people have lots to say, but at the end of the day, I think they like what they like and to me, the most important is that the person who made it loves it - in my case, it’s a temperature thing. Superwash yarns take the colours so fantastically, but just aren’t built for the Yukon. Of course, that carries over into acrylics - they aren’t warm enough to wear here. Which means it’s probably an awesome choice for where you live! 🎉 and I am looking forward to seeing the hat you knit for your son, because I think it’s going to be so cute! Thanks for another great visit! ❤️
I had so many thoughts watching this. Hopefully I remember them all 😅
First, Lion Brand Heartland is my favorite acrylic yarn. It’s so soft and comes in gorgeous colors. It’s also super affordable. I made my second hat out of it as a new knitter and was extraordinarily proud of accurately modifying the bulky weight pattern I had to work with the Heartland (no I had never heard of Ravelry, why do you ask?)
Second, that digression on “plasticky” really reminded me that I greatly appreciate how intentional you are with your wording. I’m the same way!
Third, one of the first shawls I knit I gave to my significant other with the warning not to put it in the dryer. A couple of months later I go over there and it was smaller than I remembered and very fuzzy. I was quite upset. So the next one was 100% cotton. I opened my mouth to say “you can wash it in the washer and dryer” and he said “I know, I know, no washer and dryer”. I think maybe he learned 😂 (side note, I mostly still make things for him because I like making beautiful things but won’t ever wear even half of them).
Ok, I think that’s everything.

I completely understand my boys are 11 and 8 and i haven't made them anything because they wouldn't appreciate or take care of it. But if they asked my Cold mommy heart would also melt and i would make it for them. lol

Knitting for my children I did a lot. I was a knitter years before I got children. I loved doing the baby-knits when I was pregnant. Now my children are adults and have children ... But I never knitted for my grandchildren (except for baby-bootees as a gift for the newborn).
So I am not like my grandmother (my father's mother) who was knitting for her grandchildren all the time. She had magazines with patterns we could choose from and then she knitted it for us!
I think this is really special Inge. I picked up knitting in 2011 (four years before my oldest was born) and in that time, I really was just scraping the surface so I think when I knew I would be having a little one, my experience just wasn't varied enough to encourage me to knit all of the things for the baby. However, as a first time stay at home mom, I fell head first into the craft to fill the time and that's when things took off for me. So by the time my youngest was born, I was more capable and slightly more motivated to knit for them.
I love the idea of having a catalog to have the boys choose from. I think they would get a kick out of that. ❤️

The Stockholm Slipover also by Petite Knit would be a nice option for you since you don’t live in such a cold climate. I knit it a few years ago and I highly recommend it. Also can you share a link for the chicken and dumplings recipe? That sounds yummy!
I am busy making the North Sea Hat. The gauge for the hat is 23st/4" (the scarf is a 28st gauge because you don't hold double for the scarf). It's super squishy with the yarn held double but it might be a bit thicker than what you are looking for.
So this is interesting because the pattern info page on Ravelry shows that it's a fingering-weight design with a gauge of 30 sts per 4 inches, but after downloading the pattern and reading through, I'm seeing that it's pretty much a DK hat. I need to look into that further and decide if it will be too heavy for what I'm after...I do love it though. ❤️ Thank you for sharing this AJ!
I LOVE your sweater and recently bought some variegated mohair from an other brand to get the same effect, but it didn't work, so I was wondering what is different. Does the flair of your mohair is also of different color? I didn't pay attention when I bought this one and it looks like only the silk core of the mohair changes color. Almost like it's been dyed first and then the black/dark grey mohaire was added to it.
Is there going to be another variegated mohair like the one you used for this sweater in your new collection?

I just cast on yesterday for the Felix. I wanted to earlier but I had knot this gorgeous maeled burgandy novice Chincoteague and accidentally felted it! 😱😪 So I knit another with different yarn. The sad thing was it was done in beautiful cashmere alpaca wool. I told my son to give me a grand daughter and I will turn it into Cost. But it is so heavy in afraid it would knock her over! 🤣 So I cast on last night for the Felix. Not sure about the color but we'll see. T is on off white alpaca silk and yellow cascade 220 yellow but I'm not sure about the color on me! I hope I like it. I love color so I think I'll be okay. How do I look up your hashtag on Ravelry? I put it in and it didn't come up. Maybe I did something wrong?
I used to knit for my daughter a lot but kind of slowed down on it. She’s almost three now and for a while she’s been pretty picky of what she likes to wear. She prefers her store bought sweat shirts over my hand knitted sweaters and she hates most of the hats I made her. It took me a while, but I’ve accepted it now 😅
There are some things that she does like, for example I’ve made her like 7 Stockholm slipover minis and am planning bigger ones.
See, I totally get this. At some point you just figure, I'll wait until they come to ME. Though I give you a TON of credit for all that you have knit for her. That's really special. As for the Stockholm slipover, I can see that being a hit because it's easy to wear and go over the more fun, graphic tees and tops that kids like to wear (Heaven forbid I try to dress my youngest son in a shirt without a picture on it!). I need to look into perhaps knitting a slipover for Aengus. I think he'd like it. ❤️
I am a selfish knitter because of the effort finishing and caring for stuff takes. I barely finish my own knits to be fair. My husband has been waiting for gloves since we got married in 2019 🤣. I made a newborn onesie and a couple hats for photos but that's it for my son. Maybe a sweater eventually but not til he's older

Being a selfish knitter is totally fine! I hate knitting things I know are going to be destroyed almost immediately. But there have been times with my five year old where she asks me for things and I jump to make it almost immediately. As I am watching this, I am knitting my girls both pairs of mittens.

I knit a lot for my girls (6,4 and 2 years old) but I really liked doing it from 4year old, because before they just keep taking things off and stretch them..and...it's not worth it! (for me). Also, I have a small business of accessories for kids and adults, so I get to come up with new designs for hats, cowls and stuff and my kids are always the first "customers" hahaha the prototypes are all for them :)
Why don't you host a No frills pullover KAL when the felix ends? It's on my wishlist since forever and I'd love to knit it in group. Also, I'm in Spain and buy yarn from the US it's difficult (economically speaking) but I wish I can knit up some of your yarn one day.. gorgeous colors!!

I understand not knitting for small kids they grow so fast and you want your projects to be enjoyed and used more than a few times before they put grow it. I made a toddler sweater just because I never made clothes before, and she put grew it over the summer. She wore it to church only a handful of times and she’s so sad it doesn’t fit now.
