A possible remedy for your sock wear problem could be knitting in a strand of No. 10 crochet cotton in with your wool at the heel, soles, and toes. I've had good luck with it knitted in with single ply, worsted wool in the slipper socks I've made. If it's feasible for you, keep a supply of spare wool wound on to cards and labeled with the projects each was used for. That way you have a reserve of mending wool in place when items require reinforcing/repair. This is a tip I learned from my thrifty Scottish grandmother that has served me well over the decades. Love that hat you knit. ❤️
Hi. I just found you. Thanks for the very informative content. I live fours hours from an LYS and or a Michael’s so,this takes a lot of the guess work out of online shopping. 😊
Hah!!! A trip down Memory Lane… Fire pit mitts: I’ve had this pattern in my files for a lonnnnng time! The long, roomy arm/s called to me. Made quite a few pairs years ago. Annnd I have some LB wool (oatmeal color) in stash, somewhere. Sweater: I remember the podcast when you had a few inches on your needles, fell Totally in Love with that yarn combo. I was amazed how the variegated Fluff worked w a solid color. I’ve been looking for yarn like this ever since. I hope you still dye that beautiful floof, cuz I. Must. Have. This. !! Very Kewl Hat! Need to get pattern. Socks: I remember the vid, they DID hold up fairly well! Try darning holes using duplicate stitch. Perhaps across the bottom of foot where gets most wear/tear. Thanks for the “Memories”, inspiration struck, a friend wants long-arm mitts, sooo, off to the stash & Fire Pit mitts!
Lion Brand is a great company and they have so many wonderful yarns. I've found that the big box stores like Michael's, JoAnn's and Walmart often ( most of the time) do not carry the full line of LB 's best yarns. Thanks for giving this great company such a wonderful shout out!
Sooooo glad you talked about Fisherman's Wool by Lion Brand. I purchased TWO skein not realizing how much yarn it has. I was a bit apprehensive it being so scratchy but it's not really. So for one of my brothers I've knitted a hat and a simple cowl but now with your pattern of the Fire Pit Mitts, I'll have a few more gifts for him and others. THANK YOU!
I love that you show your socks although they are not freshly knit. 🙂 BTW, I'd love if you want to share how you mend them. Or maybe make a video about how to prevent these holes from coming as fast?
For the ends sticking out I recommend using a felting needle. For the spots were your bag is unraveling you could use a duplicate stitch, a patch, or you could've darn it. That strap looks like it may be double knit. Also, lion Brandon fisherman yarn is the absolute best budget yarn out there.
I love love love Fisherman's Wool! About to harvest an old sweater that I crocheted a long while ago to turn it into a squishy brioche sweater instead 😍
I enjoyed seeing some of your finished projects and why you love them! Just listening to your thoughts on each project re pattern and yarn, I’m pretty sure we could be yarn besties! Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
I remember when you knit that No Frills. It inspired me to do a solid merino with a variegated mohair and it turned out amazing! I agree. It’s the all-time favorite in my closet too!
I LOVE Lion Brand Fisherman’s Wool! It was the first wool I worked with and loved it. I have made so many blankets with it! I haven’t purchased it in a few years. I moved over to Cascade 220 because I could easily get that at my LYS and the Fisherman’s wool ai had to order online. Anyway both of those are fabulously affordable yarns! You are such a beautiful knitter, Tayler. One of the other knitting podcasts that I watch is The Knotty Knit Wits and one of the cohosts Leslie is who lead me to you a few years back. She talked about you again their last podcast. You are just such a joy to watch! Have a great weekend away and I’ll look forward to another unpopular knitting opinions video. 🧶🌸 ❤️
you can fix the bag handle by adding a patch to the handle holes or doing some embroidery around it, like trailing flowers - both a really cool and individualized solution.
I stumbled across your channel recently and have been binge watching your videos. I appreciate your cadence and soothing voice and chill vibe. You have also managed to successfully walk the line between following trends but not coming across as snooty or pretentious about it, and I super appreciate that. I usually stray away from knitting podcasts for these reasons; I find some people to be out of reach in their relatability. Instead I opt to peruse Ravelry and find knits on my own and throw trends to the wind. Thank you for being a breath of fresh air in the sea of YT podcasts! You have a subscriber in me, and I can’t wait to see what other knits you make! Xx
Judi you’ve made my night. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. It means a whole lot to me. I’m so glad to have you here as a viewer and subscriber. Welcome. ❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE Lion Brand's Fisherman Wool. I have a bunch in my stash from when I first started knitting and I still buy it sometimes. It's a good work horse yarn and you only need 3 balls at most even for a textured sweater. Since it's only about $13 a ball that's a steal, especially if you can use a coupon code with it (which I usually did when I purchase from Joans or similar stores). Glad people are talking about this yarn. It's a real bummer that the LB fingering yarn was discontinued. Anyway, I love your videos. Keep up the great work. :)
Could you maybe add a felt or suede bottom to the socks so they’re more like slippers and they wont be destroyed by the floor? Just an idea. Love your videos! Xo
@@3_up_moon true! I guess that’s why they call them slippers 😂😂 but seriously I’ve wiped out in socks on hardwood before and it sucks 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ at least I dusted the floor as I fell… 😂😂
I totally agree on the No Frills Sweater. As I watch this I am knitting on my third one...and wearing my second one. Love it! The one I'm knitting on I did some variation on the neck..did a kind of rolled edge instead of ribbing. My first was a dk weight, the second was one strand of black fingering held with a strand of colored yarn. The colored yarns are minis from Row One Yarns monthly subscription. The third is black fingering held with a mohair in a salmon/orange/tan variegated lace weight from Ice yarns.
Love your podcast. I'm going to check out the no frills sweater pattern. I've only made one sweater ever. But that one looks like something I can do. Thank you for sharing your favs.
Your gorgeous Magnolia Bloom is knit in my favorite color!! I’ve had that sweater in my library for so long & after seeing your version with that yarn… I’m gonna have knit that up. Hope you don’t mind if I use the same yarn/color 😊 💚 it’s stunning 🤩
Omg, I haven’t knit anything in 8 years!! Recently got a bug to start a knit project, came across your channel and now I have 5 more things I want to knit!! 😆😬😩 I don’t have the time for all these craft projects!! Only 20 more years until retirement! 😆. Now I can’t decide if I want my first project back to be the original one I planned or the friggin cute socks 🤷🏻♀️
The no frills sweater is planned to be my second ever hand knit sweater! My first was bottom-up fingering weight with color work, steeking and seaming so it’ll be nice to go to dk weight seamless top down for my second. I picked it because it looked so wearable so it’s good to see your review confirming that!
I enjoyed seeing your 5 favorite knits. I have the fisherman’s yarn in my stash and I purchased your mitt pattern and haven’t cast it on. I guess it’s time to do it. I started watching your podcast when you published that pattern. I also have the no frills pattern. I’ll have to look into purchasing your yarn to knit it. I just cast on the Felix sweater, hopefully I can join in on your Felix kal. Thanks for inspiring us !
Three videos in and I didn't realize that I hadn't yet subscribed (fixed that). Your content is so well considered, and I appreciate so many elements as an audience member and fellow podcaster.
thanks for the description of Fisherman’s wool by Lion Brand…..think I need some for a beanie or two. And both of your sweaters are LOVELY…..both pattern and yarn!
Love your Nevada mug! I’m going to check out your mitts pattern. Thanks for giving your opinion on the Lion Brand yarn. I didn’t know they had anything like that. Safe travels!
I’m new to the podcast but am loving this video! I had a difficult sweater experience and decided to get back in to sweater knitting with no frills so to see that is one of your favorites is really good to hear! It is slower going but I am trying not to rush to avoid the sizing issues I had on my last sweater.
Great idea for Christmas sweater, the Magnolia. It's in my favorites. I'm doing a new thing, knitting TAAT sleeves that are on top down sweaters. Why is this not a thing?!? First one I tried it on already had a few inches knit. Now, I'm knitting the Fireside Pullover, so I started the TAAT as soon as I picked up the sleeve stitches. I think going to be doing this from now on.
Fully agree about the Sunday socks. I've made 9 pairs now because I gift them to everyone I know 😂 the rib pattern is very forgiving so I've been able to make socks for people where I only roughly knew their shoe size.
Yes! This is exactly what I love about them. They are so versatile and forgiving (perfect word). I actually cast on a fresh pair after filming this. 😬☺️ Thank you for watching Nina!
I have tried to make the no frills three times but I don’t know how to do short rows 😢. I keep going back to it and hopefully I understand it all at some point. Yours is beautiful. I have enjoyed your podcast so much. It’s so relaxing.
I KNOW how frustrating that is Becky. Short rows can take try or patience and unless you mark the little wrapped stitches with interlocking markers, it’s easy to lose track of them (which is the biggest cause if short row issues, it would seem). I hope you do give it a try again. I know you’ll love it. And thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. It means soo much. ❤️
I love LB Fisherman’s wool - I always have a few skeins of the natural colorway on hand because you can dye it really easily. But, recently I’ve been having a hard time finding it in stock! So I don’t think it’s so untapped.
So inspired and just ordered my first knitting pattern via Ravelry: Fire Pit Mitts! Ordered the fisherman's wool yarn in a beautiful brown and some double pointed needles. Have never used DPNs before. How hard could it be, right? This should be fun! Thank you.
If a portion of your sock is just really thin and not yet a hole, you can pretty easily duplicate stitch that thin area and give them lots of new life.
In this week’s Midweek Ramble I’m chatting about my top 5 favorite hand-knits! All patterns are linked in the description. ❤ #knitting #knittingvlog #knittingpodcasts #knittingpodcast #woolneedleshands
I'm thinking of knitting a No Frills but was wondering what your thoughts are comparing the No Frills and the Flax. I've knit the Flax in an oversized version for me as a cozy home sweater. I love Fisherman's wool! I knit tote bags to felt with that.
Hi Dorothy! Thank you for watching. I think the Flax and the No Frills are VERY similar. I've not knit the Flax so I can only go off of what I see and what the pattern details say on Ravelry. The Flax is a worsted-weight sweater where the No Frills is a DK weight so you may get a little bit more wearability with the lighter fabric of the No Frills...however I think that's a negligible difference. The No Frills also has a deeper hemline and cuff which I love, but that is easy to modify in the Flax if you wanted. Also, the No Frills has no special design elements whereas the Flax has the texture down the side of the arm and the No Frills seems to have more positive ease built into the design than the Flax (which you are probably familiar with since you sized up for a more cozy, oversized sweater). After looking at both, and for what it's worth, I gravitate more to the No Frills for its fit and hemline/cuff depth...and I also like the gradual arm shaping that leaves some nice wiggle room. And this one last knit picky thing that may not matter much...I feel like the raglan seams on the Flax, when knit to size I imagine, pull on the neckline a little... I hope this helps a bit! ❤️
That yarn combo on the No Frills is amazing and inspiring! Have you ever made the DRK Everyday sweater? I’m wondering how it compares to the No Frills.
Lots of great, cozy hand knits! Love the yarn in your No-Frills sweater, but I'm not on the PetiteKnits bandwagon. Her designs tend to be classic and basic, but that means that for me they just don't seem fun to knit! I need more of a payoff in terms of excitement or zest.
Hiii nice to meet you I am inpired to attempt the first bag you are holding up definalty however I am intrigued aboute the sweater you are wearing and I'm guessing it's handmade knitted please do share ?
I am making your fire pit mits with fingering weight yarn. I have 60 stitches around and have gotten to the thumb i used the 4 stitch difference between the sizes in your pattern and did the math for my 60 and got that i would need to have 24 stitches between markers. Which is doing an additional 14 rounds. This is my first time knitting any fingerless gloves and my 3rd knitting project in general. So im still pretty new. Does my math make sense and sound right for the yarn weight change?
Hi Michelle! First of all, thank you for downloading the pattern! Ok, the thumb gusset stitches are going to be 30% of your total CO stitches. So if you casted on 60 sts, you'll want your thumb to be 18 sts. which would be 17 rows (if I'm not mistaken...). Does that make sense? I would stick to the percentage of the CO sts for the thumb as opposed to the difference between the sizes. You should get a better fit and a normal length thumb. Please let me know how it goes!
@@WOOLNEEDLESHANDS thank you so much for the quick reply i had messaged you on instagram as well so you can ignore that i wasn’t sure the best way to contact you and im a little tech challenged sometimes lol thank you again so much :)
Hello, I’m actually knitting with your sock yarn. Loving it! As far as the Sunday socks and the sweater from petite knits. I’m a reading the price of those patterns correctly? 45.00 for the sweaters pattern? Socks also $$$
Hi Janet! I'm so glad you're enjoying your yarn. Thank you for telling me. ❤️. As for the PetiteKnit designs, they are all priced in DK (Danish Krone) so you have to adjust for USD. 45DK is just under $6 USD. 👍
I have several of your favs in my favs on ravelry. Re Petite Knit, though, while at first glance her patterns appear size inclusive, they're really not. A normal 1X needs to knit a 3X in a Petite Knit pattern.
I think this really depends on your own preference for wool. However if it’s being compared to a Merino or a fine wool breed that we’re so familiar with, yes. I would say it is “itchier”. I really think you need to feel it for yourself to make that determination though. 👍
Anyone have a suggestion for a first sweater knit for a female a little more "endowed"? Most of the ones I see suggested don't allow for a larger chest, they are equally sized front and back and I'd rather not try to adapt on my first go.
This is a great question! I would would look at the First Raglan by Jared Flood (?). Look at project photos for folks who share your body shape. That always helps me. I’ll keep my eye out.
The lion brand fisherman's wool was what I made an aran sweater with, it really is a joy to work but it turns out I don't love to wear a rustic sweater 😭❤️🥰
Fisherman's wool is wonderful-and watch for when Michaels or Joanns has it 50% off!

In reply to your lions brand fisherman’s wool- have you tried Briggs and Little at all? I feel like it might be comparable?
Where is your phone case from ❤
It's from Casely. I ordered it from Amazon over the summer. Here's the link:

Fix the hole with cute embroidery.
Could you knit this market bag with string?
Hi Donna! I definitely think you could. 👍
Is the Lion brand itchy?
Cozy classic raglan by Jessie Mae is fantastic! Highly recommend!
The lion brand fisherman's wool was what I made an aran sweater with, it really is a joy to work but it turns out I don't love to wear a rustic sweater 😭❤️🥰
