    I wish there were more ways to make our Western philosophy more present for our society, just as Zen gardens are exemplary for Buddhism in Japan.
    Great video, as always; I'm happy to get in touch with things I would've missed otherwise.

      Thank you for your nice comment. These days Zen Buddhism is getting popular in Western world, I heard. For example the funeral of Steve Jobs was done by Zen monks. If you have time, please visit Ryoanji temple in Kyoto.

      @@lastsamuraikyoto I was not aware of that, but I hope Zen doesn't get distorted by the entertainment industry.
      If I happen to visit Kyoto I'll make sure to visit Ryoanji Garden.

    As i visited i found the old wall with its different colors showing the weather and repairs over centuries and the mass of small wooden shingles covering the top of the wall at least as interesting as the stones...Thankf for showing this too in detail.

    • @lastsamuraikyoto
      @lastsamuraikyoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your comment. That wall is made from special soil. They put canola oil to the soil so that it stands for centuries. That’s why the color of the wall is different from other walls.

    Thankyou for this video. I saw the water feature in your other video. I am glad that you broke it down and said the meaning. From one meaning to another, contentment, depth, well. Everytime you do the Samorai with the sword, it makes me laugh, I get joy.

      @@lastsamuraikyoto It was our Saturday too. I saw the new video, I got a lot out of it. Thankyou, I appreciate you and being a help and not a hindrance in being able to finish my learning, and being able to live my life, without the flack. I also realised about the koans, one hand clapping, the one that claps is also the one that slaps. For every Zen clap, there is a Zen slap, both needed, necessary and essential, for strong and helpful foundations that supports the building and the roof and end immaturity. So for every Yes there is also a No.

    “I am content.” heals the centuries of official religion making us feel inadequate because we can never live up to its ideals, saves us from the maybe with the next car I’ll feel adequate. Does white rock expanse manifest stones as classic sumi whiteness manifests mountains and trees? Does whiteness represent Emptiness manifesting the everyday material world we experience?

    • @lastsamuraikyoto
      @lastsamuraikyoto  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Rocks sometimes represent holy mountains like Mt. Shumisen or Mt. Horai which nobody has seen. They may not exist but they do exist in mind when they meditate.
