Free advice from a plastic engineer: The mouthpiece is too long and thick. Redesign the docking area in addition so you can get more cavities into the tool as well as reduce the shot volume. This would prob smasch production cost in half. Then later get a multishot hotrunner system for your tool 16-times mould. Will prob reduce cost to 1/3
I love seeing the massive success these people have after they get turned down by the investors. She has sold a huge amount of these and these people didn't see it. That tells me a lot about their smugness
I was really impressed with Jennifer the facts that the sharks seemed to had a lot of respect for her also says a lot. I'm hoping the company does well. That Steve is an interesting guy. He wants to make money, and that is good, but it seems that he works hard to try to find ways to make things work in order to help people how have the talent to get something going.
Traditional method hasn't been modernized because it just works. Same reason why traditional Men's belt-buckle design really hasn't been modernized. Sure, a few individuals come along once every few years and try it. But the design that was created literally centuries ago continues to dominate the market. All of those other belt-buckle designs either enjoy miniscule success until eventually they go out of business. Or they're failures soon after starting up. Some things just work. Some things were gotten right the first time. And some things don't need to be "modernized."
Class 1. Easiest introduction to the market. Better opportunity with this than a continuing 4 cents for a wood product...technology first is everything!
If the material could withstand an autoclave, I could see it marketing well in professional practices. If it isn't able to withstand an autoclave, then perhaps that could be an option choice: disposable vs autoclave-able. More expensive up front for the latter but could save $$ in the long run for professionals.
This will work great for scared kids. Doesn't have to replace the wood cheapo but instead be brought out to make the experience easier for young kids and the doctor. If used like that I'd say it's well worth the $10 considering that one doctors visit is going to cost the insurance company hundreds if not a thousand dollars.
I like the idea however I think it should have disposable sleeves like that product should be in his pocket and he should pull out a clear sleeve that goes over into the child mile so he's just throwing away a piece of plastic not a perfectly made glow stick

She should change it out for a switch/button and use a plastic cover the disposable that fits over it.Kinda like the cover they use on thermometers when taking your temperature.
Sorry but this is silly, can't see it ever taking off in the current climate where all sectors are under pressure to cut out waste, especially plastic!
If the device had different disposable attachments it could replace the light that medical professionals use in offices as well. It could also be in the shape of a nose or ear cone attached to the light. I could see this replacing most of the things that doctors use with their lights scope device. and with that in mind the 10X cost of the tongue depressors would drop substantially because it also replaces the light, depressors, scope cones, etc. and not just the depressors.
Honestly, if she just made the light and tongue depresser one unit and sold a box of plastic sleeves to go over the depresser it would be a lot more cost effective. Similar to how thermometers in the doctors office have the rubbery tube they slide on and can throw away after being used.
theres more to it then just the cost to manufacture. cost to make does not take into account the patent process and the associated costs, time taken to invent the item to solve said problem as well as all the other costs incurred with running a company.
Just to point to the 10x cost thing... While I sorta do get that, 10x cost can ABSOLUTELY be feasible for something that causes 10+x better use. Essentially, it's hard to say it's not worth it until you ask the people that would be using it whether the added value is worth the added cost. I imagine, for instance, at one point in time telephone calls costed significantly more than telegrams, but which technology ultimately won out? Added cost is absolutely a factor, but I would argue that added value is a significant mitigating factor to added cost. Mind you, I don't really do any business, but do work in the healthcare setting (at a hospital, as a phlebotomist, so admittedly not directly in the market for this device, though I do plan to go to med school after finishing college so at some point I will be in the market for such a device, and let me tell you, I am certainly intrigued/interested lol. Hope it's still around when I finish my education)
These parents that say I have to pry my kids mouth open and hold them down are pathetic. If my dad or my mom told me sit still and listen to the doctor you better believe my butt sat still and listened to the doctor. It is called discipline and the lack of discipline is what is turning this world into safe space pansies that are offended by every little thing.
This has nothing to do with non-obedient kids. A lot of children are deathly afraid of hospitals and doctors based on their previous experiences, do you really think that a 4-year-old is going to get over a fear of something just because the parent tells him to do it? As an extreme example, imagine telling your kid to bungee jump because it's ok and nothing will happen since there's very strong and flexible rope wrapped around their legs, would you call your kid disobedient and undisciplined if he were too afraid to do it? Fears have to be approached gently or else you're risking to exacerbate the fear even more in the long term. I had multiple painful experiences in the hospital when I was a very small child and I've had a mental block and fear of hospitals ever since. That's not called disobedience or being a "snowflake", it's literally a primeval in-built function of the brain to elicit a fear-response when the brain is already expecting something bad to happen based on previous experience, and on top of that, children have a very low inhibition threshold because their pre-frontal cortex has not properly developed yet (you can still see this behavior in adults with damaged or underdeveloped PFCs like people with ADHD). I'd suggest you educate yourself on this factual, scientifically proven topic before calling everything and everyone a safe-space pansy. There certainly is a place and time to call people out for being too sensitive, but this is not one of them. If a child is not scared but still disobeys you, then your comment is perfectly justified, but keep in mind that in places like hospitals this is far from the truth.
She is got amazing product and as usual Steve nailed her with 5 percent royality. I dont know about the invention and much abouy becoming entrepreneurs but one thing I can learn from sharks is how to safeguard the money with wholesome profit
76k for 30% of the company then a 5% royalty until the 76k is paid, but he keeps 30% of the company, basically you give 30% if your company away for a loan.
The offer was fair. It is in protoype stage, with sharks backing she will expedite the growth of the company massively and also secures future finacing when needed. 5% royalty is a bit harsh but fair due to the infancy of the business, bowever its not a loan,a loan is defined by fixed repayments.

Shark tank Australia almost never invest unless the company is atedly pretty much self sufficient lmao a bunch of wombats if u ask me
This female seems familiar somehow.. like one of the girlfriends of Ted Moseby from How i met your mother series.. don't know if am wrong
Mad Max Akki i could not lay my Finger on it who it was. Now i see it
"this female"? lol
Idk about you but she reminds me of Chuck's doctor sister in Chuck, I forgot her name.
Mad Max Akki you mean Victoria?

My neck is itching very bad, and for that reason- I’m out

Doctors use torches to look in your throat in Australia? Crazy Aussies
billybrooks1 its torchlight..we at malaysia also do it
They call flashlights torches
Aussie**
@@tigeralmasov418 in india we call it the same
tiger almasov So what is a flashlight to them? A source of light that flashes at different intervals?
I fail to see how the wooden tongue depressor "pries" open mouths any more than a plastic tongue depressor. I think it's a great idea, but the hyperbole in that argument is a bit much.
For that reason, I'm out.
i really wish someone even Jennifer suggested making multiple colors so whoever using it can ask the child their favorite color and surprise them with that color light depressor
Hopefully this device would become available in the Philippines in 2-3 years’ time to save pediatric patients from a little “torture” and lessen the parents’ stress. 💙
She reminds me of the lady who was calling for rows to board the plane toward the end of the movie "Meet The Parents." Lmao.
thats why US is better..the sharks are brutally honest n have much energy
Free advice from a plastic engineer: The mouthpiece is too long and thick. Redesign the docking area in addition so you can get more cavities into the tool as well as reduce the shot volume. This would prob smasch production cost in half. Then later get a multishot hotrunner system for your tool 16-times mould. Will prob reduce cost to 1/3
This show is more of a joke each new episode I watch. I tried so hard to like it but arghh
Verma Rakesh thanks for the link! I’m glad she’s done well without them :)
I'm sure. Not nearly as good as the US version but its still cool to watch peoples dreams come true like on this one.
They need new sharks
Love this show. Steves quite ruthless. Wish we could view full episodes.
Disposable plastic isn’t in rn it’s more along the line of reusable
I love seeing the massive success these people have after they get turned down by the investors. She has sold a huge amount of these and these people didn't see it. That tells me a lot about their smugness
Congrats to the lady but I am really shocked about the fact that nobody seems to consider the environmental issue about switching back to plastic
She is such a Nice Lady.
I wish her all the VERY BEST..
I don't know how these became a millionaire 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I think the smartest is Steve
He's the only one who makes sensible comments in the tank.
@@purelight6663 he is pure Aussie
I really liked him
because they dont throw money away whenever some random people present them with an idea
This is literally the only product I've actually seen from shark tank in an ad
I was really impressed with Jennifer the facts that the sharks seemed to had a lot of respect for her also says a lot. I'm hoping the company does well. That Steve is an interesting guy. He wants to make money, and that is good, but it seems that he works hard to try to find ways to make things work in order to help people how have the talent to get something going.
Best of both worlds: that lightsaber tongue depressor with biodegradable disposable sleeves. :) Eco-friendly and cost reduction.
5:18 Anyone else have a good idear?! 🤔
Ever thought about thé plastic waste this Will generatie when it would be used on world scale??
"waste"
Terry Thomas changed!
It gets burnt, its not much better. But hospital settings are super strict. They have to protect weak patients from contracting god knows what
She did the right thing. This became a 15 million dollar company.
Everyone Steve invests in actually ends up making money in the end
does it apply to the other sharks as well?
Class 1. Easiest introduction to the market. Better opportunity with this than a continuing 4 cents for a wood product...technology first is everything!
I don’t have anything other then red dresses to wear, for that reason I’m out.
Oo dear . The same old copy and paste remarks
That's Victoria from HIMYM! No? Damn, the resemblance is uncanny.
The world needs more of these innovators... we lost the greatest just because of business...
Isn’t she from ned’s survival guide
Yeah Moze
I like the idea however I think it should have disposable sleeves like that product should be in his pocket and he should pull out a clear sleeve that goes over into the child mile so he's just throwing away a piece of plastic not a perfectly made glow stick
I now understand why shark tank Australia was cancelled after 4 seasons on air. They couldn't even crack 700,000 viewers. American shark tank gets 7 million viewers.
Different territory different viewing figures different production company
erm....if you consider each countries population they have similar viewing numbers.
700 000 viewers in australia is a large audience.
Congratulations on your success of the product and wide spread use across the globe
I swear the girl in the red dress isn’t an investor cause she is always out😂

Steve and the sharks are so encouraging in comparison to the dragons but Steve really took quite a bite.
Make a plastic bag go over it. Now cost 1c everytime it's used...
Dryne Sprague then the little kid swallows the bag
@@sammetcalfe2579 swallowing the bag is not a problem if it was food grade and made of something like corn which the body can consume. The real problem would be breathing the bag into a lung passage.
My GP had a holder with a light for his wooden depressor 25 years ago. It even had a little scope to get some magnification.
Get the sob story out of here 😂
right? she's like my poor little white kid is allergic to peanuts and it terrifies me to cram those awful wooden sticks down her throat when this plastic one is the same damn size and shape
Did you even do a quick background check on the company’s current state before commenting?
If the device had different disposable attachments it could replace the light that medical professionals use in offices as well. It could also be in the shape of a nose or ear cone attached to the light. I could see this replacing most of the things that doctors use with their lights scope device. and with that in mind the 10X cost of the tongue depressors would drop substantially because it also replaces the light, depressors, scope cones, etc. and not just the depressors.
More disposable plastic waste. Bad product
Honestly, if she just made the light and tongue depresser one unit and sold a box of plastic sleeves to go over the depresser it would be a lot more cost effective. Similar to how thermometers in the doctors office have the rubbery tube they slide on and can throw away after being used.
In short: Cost to make those two pieces: $3 dollars, price in retail: $30.00 that's greed right there.
theres more to it then just the cost to manufacture. cost to make does not take into account the patent process and the associated costs, time taken to invent the item to solve said problem as well as all the other costs incurred with running a company.
Stay mad
If a child is not scared but still disobeys you, then your comment is perfectly justified, but keep in mind that in places like hospitals this is far from the truth.
deezebee2 woah
She is got amazing product and as usual Steve nailed her with 5 percent royality.
I dont know about the invention and much abouy becoming entrepreneurs but one thing I can learn from sharks is how to safeguard the money with wholesome profit
She made in net worth, 15 million in 2020
Really can u give source pls ? Just asking
have the light up plastic piece attached and make a disposable plastic cover just like thermometers have.
These sharks are like sand sharks compared to the original Lori, Mark, Richard and Mr Wonderful.
Can't remember the name of the real estate lady haha
It's Barbara, and for that reason, I'm out
not remembering and for that reason I'm out
She would be better off making the plastic piece not disposable but something that can be sterilized and reused. Now THAT would be less wasteful
I love this idea, I would make a disposable sleeve for the plastic on the end then just throw that sleeve away
because who cares about millions more sleeves being produced to never degrade
Is this an old episode because I have heaps of these at home
Shark tank Australia is so ass , if this was US , there would’ve been a bidding war against the sharks
That was a good deal. Glad you guys made an agreement. Hope this product goes well.
It did...
Do the lady’s ever make solo deals?
76k for 30% of the company then a 5% royalty until the 76k is paid, but he keeps 30% of the company, basically you give 30% if your company away for a loan.
This sounds like a rip off. I will never give my company away.
The offer was fair.
It is in protoype stage, with sharks backing she will expedite the growth of the company massively and also secures future finacing when needed.
5% royalty is a bit harsh but fair due to the infancy of the business, bowever its not a loan,a loan is defined by fixed repayments.
the way he values her company would mean he would want 60% for the whole money which would make the lady own less of her own company, so he offered her half for 30% and the rest as a loan.
Has the guy in the middle ever invested in anything?
I would put some kind of removable sleeve over the blade so that would deffo bring the price down big time!!
First time I saw him I thought he was the host pretending to be a shark. lol
@@icydsting6037 same here he does a lot of talking but no doing
yes, this guy invested $2 in hamdog.
He is the richest
I love the idea...I think it she came up with a mail in envelope to recycle the sticks, she could improve profit margins and reduce waste at the same time.
bruh all the doctor did was put his tongue down to look in his throat 🤦♂️
Wasn’t a doctor
Not living in the US or AUS , I assumed the investors were playing on the risk that they they would occur. But this was stupid , this is completely investable, and this would have turned into a Gold mine ..if the inventor is reading this..take your next flight to the US and go to the TANK.. Cuban or Kevin will do an investment
And it did turn into a goldmine. Pretty easy to see coming.
