I know how hard you work at these videos. The insider access videos sound great but it is really up to you.I will enjoy watching whatever videos you make as I appreciate what you do for the public.
I think what's going on here is 'expectation'. That is, you made a video about the Brisbane Roar and you 'expected' it to be big and popular and reach a wide audience and bask in the praise that you assumed would naturally follow. And when that didn't happen your expectation was shattered and has now led you to making this video where you question whether you should go on with your channel. It all comes down to WHY are you making TH-cam videos... do you make them for the recognition, or do you make them because you want to? I've been making history documentaries about Brisbane for a couple of years now and to be honest I keep going regardless of how many people were watching. And I do this because the documentaries about Brisbane's history that I had seen thus far on TH-cam, I felt, weren't very good, so I wanted to make the kind of content that I wanted to see. I didn't do it for the recognition, I just kept pumping out the best content I could, and eventually I found my audience. Like any creative endeavour, the buck stops with the artist. Therefore, perhaps it's time to retire TBC and start a new one with the kind of content you WANT to make and are passionate about. But if you only want to make videos for the kudos and likes and subscriber numbers, then you'll keep giving up because TH-cam is a tough marketplace. There's an old saying, 'Don't try to be famous, just try to be profound. The fame will follow'. Well, that's my two cents worth.
Yeah, you're right. I think though, that it's more about whether I make them for my own satisfaction or for financial gain. I don't care about kudos or recognition, but I see potential for this channel as a side hustle that brings a small income to supplement my main one. At its peak, this channel paid half of my mortgage repayments. More viewers means more potential to monetise the act of making these videos (not talking Adsense alone, but rather connecting with parties who would pay to reach my audience). Doing it for the sake of making good quality content alone may be a noble thing, but my aim has been for it to be something that is worth doing financially as well. That's why an engaged and growing viewership matters to me. My struggle has always been balancing what may get views or grow the channel with what I enjoy making, and I guess I felt that the results of the Roar video pointed to the two being at odds with each other. But making that judgement based on a single video was not wise. And it's also possible that the audience for that kind of thing may not be the same audience as the one I've built here. I feel going forward that I will produce the kind of content that I want to make, that I enjoy making, and that I feel is of value. That way, if it pays off in other respects or not, it won't matter so much. I'll just focus on creating videos that I feel are of increasingly high quality that help me keep developing my skills and that keep me interested in the stories themselves. I do think over time, if I'm true to myself, I'll find my "tribe" as you have.
Hey mate, I honestly feel like the content you've been making on the channel is great. It's definitely helped me find upcoming events and discover cool locations in Brisbane. As you said most of this stuff can be found online but I appreciate it all being consolidated in one video (also makes it easy to send to friends etc). Perhaps you can try exploring more areas surrounding Brisbane as well, expand the focus of the channel - interviewing interesting people living here as you mentioned is a great idea.
Whilst you are right in saying some research will discover the events through Brisbane, your vlogs are an exceptional quick stop for what is happening. My family and I have attended events/places from your videos alone that we may have missed. As an expat living in BNE for 10 years, whilst I love the place and it is home now...I have always thought it doesn't sell itself enough and there should be more information around whats happening and coming up. IMO, there is a space with events/cool places/sightseeing and unique takes on how to love the city and nearby areas. With the right approach you could find a passion but regardless, I think your stuff is great.
Thanks. Yeah, I do see that there's a convenience that comes from having someone pull those things together. I think some of them could just be a list of events with links to them that I put on the community page, rather than putting them into a video, which is what I intend to do with those things if I continue into 2024.
@@BrisbaneChannelmy wife wanted to find events going on in Brisbane and she found your channel through that (I had already been watching for a while) and loved what you are releasing.
For some reason I didn’t see your Roar doco in my notifications, but I finally saw it today…well done! Your videos were a great help for my move to Brisbane, a city I had never been to until a year ago. Certainly do what’s best for you, but I’ll continue to watch your videos if the channel continues!
The annoying thing about TH-cam is Im relying on my home page to generate what I view. I have been subscribed for a long time and this is the first video that has been generated to my home page. If I don't go into each of my Subs, I miss a lot of content. I definitely would have watched the video of the Roar, in fact Im going to watch it now.
Brisbane needs your media exposure especially now the city is starting to get its Mojo back (after Floods and Covid) and Olympics coming. Your magnificent polished videos are appreciated whatever the decision you come to.
I would like to see the channel continue. I think getting insider access to the things that affect Brisbane and the general public would be more better. Cross river rail and maybe the new trains as that affects everyone. We are all trying to find something new and exciting with our town. Maybe can do a hidden gem(s) on the regions of Brisbane and then can branch off to hidden gems per suburb.
Hey mate. Thanks for the honest video. I can definitely appreciate your pain. I have had a TH-cam channel myself and felt the frustration that the best and proudest video performed the poorest and vice versa. I am definitely keen and interested in your insider mini documentaries. I wouldn’t mind the odd “What to do” video either. One of my favourite videos is about the Vietnamese cuisine in Inala. Full of little tips which wanted me to go and explore it myself immediately. I personally think that it would be a loss for us in Brissie but also for the wider community if your channel would cease to exist. There are so many things about your channel I like and showed also my family overseas so they can appreciate what the lifestyle here is like. You channel is IMHO pretty unique and offers information and insight into life in Brisbane. Maybe food for thoughts but tray to engage viewers to leave a comment, that way the TH-cam algorithm gets something to do. Another amazing video would be a “behind the scenes at Brisbane Airport”. All the best and merry Christmas. Kevin
@KevinAus I saw your comment about this one being removed, but I found it in the "Held for review" section. I have no idea what TH-cam didn't like about it. I appreciate the feedback, it's good to hear of what you have enjoyed and why, which is really helpful.
@DericMa I would love to do more of that "hidden gems" kinda thing, but with the size of Brisbane, and the tightness with which a lot of lesser-known information is held, it's really hard to uncover. I feel I don't have the network that would make those discoveries possible. That may change over time, but I'm not there at this point. But I do agree that things that affect more people may do better.
@@BrisbaneChannel thank you so much for reading and replying back to my comment. I also wanted to say I don’t mind you sharing or resharing information you find. I know people can search for it including myself but watching TH-cam is my way to relax and absorb information quickly when communing to work and relaxing. Hard to have time outside of that with work and family and a 3 year old. TH-cam and the internet is general is all about sharing information. Only downside to that is that you mentioned it can be boring for you to create.
We found your channel to be the best in informing about living in Brisbane. This information is not easy to search for when living elsewhere as you do not always know what to search for.
Those informative videos are by far the ones that the most people find helpful. I will still be making those ones along with whatever I decide to do for my own satisfaction.
I just relocated to Brisbane. When researching my options of Perth or Brisbane, your channel helped me decide. And guess what we picked, Brissy. We love it here so far. I also have picked up photography and starting on video now and have a game plan but would love to learn more from someone with experience. Again, your channel helped me out greatly. Keep going and think of this as a hobby. Love the channel.
I personally am very interested in the ideas you mentioned. As someone who is a fan of channels such as Tom Scott (who does similar stuff to what you mentioned) I think that Brisbane focused videos on specific, exclusive topics would be great. Your videos are extremely well made and I'd hate to see them go.
Tom Scott is great, and I can't imagine the amount of time he spends researching before each video! I'm pretty sure the channel will be continuing, I appreciate your support!
I was born and grew up in Brisbane. I didn’t know your channel existed until now. I’ve many fond memories of my city, however having moved to London many years ago and being so close to the great cities of Europe I wouldn’t want to move back though I’m still interested in knowing what goes on in the place of my birth and education. There’ll always be a place in my heart for good old Brissy.
If I continue, that's definitely something I will try to get. I think I'm beginning to have a large enough subscriber count that I can start asking for access like this, especially when it's such a focused theme to the channel.
Watching from Tokyo I loved your video talking about reason to live in Brisbane as someone that has been away for 15yrs in Tokyo. Really helped me to reconnect with the city when I visited. If/when I move back it’s going to be Brissy.
I have to say I was also absolutely crushed when the Roar video didn't go anywhere either. I tried passing it around, getting it in front of people and I was so sad when it didn't generate the numbers you were hoping for. I can completely understand your frustration with that. I personally think I've watched just about every video you've ever released, and I will continue to do so - I hope you give it one last go, though I can understand if you want to walk away.
Yeah, I appreciate all your help with that. I will continue, I just need to do a little more reflection and to clarify my thoughts first. But after all the comments on this one, I'm sure I won't be walking away.
I think you created some great content there is only so much you can cover about one place. It is also only limited to people who live here or those who are looking to move. It sounds like the passion isn't there so maybe your best investing your valuable time to another part of your life. Best of luck to you, I hope you succeed with your new business and your studies.
Please don’t go - we’ve only recently found you. Does it have to be either or? Is there room for both types of content? Both showcase your talent and curiosity. Thank you for sharing your passion.
I think I was too either or in this video. It absolutely doesn't have to be that way. I'm pretty sure I will continue, and there will be elements of what's been in the channel so far, and elements of what I really enjoy making. Hopefully I can strike a happy balance that's good for both viewers and myself. Thanks for your support!
Hey mate, i think your channel is valuable and that the more storytelling there is about Brissie, the better. There's a city council election coming up in March this year, which creates an opportunity for some really interesting conversations about what direction the city is heading in and what kinds of visions the different political parties have for the future of our town. I'll be running for mayor of Brisbane and would be open to being interviewed, and i think it would be cool if you interviewed all the mayoral candidates to ask them tough questions and see what they each stand for. You could also interview other policy experts (e.g. transport planners, architects etc) to unpack issues like public transport, design of public spaces etc. The council election is going to have a huge impact on the lives of all Brisbanites, but there won't be much mainstream media coverage of the details of what each candidate stands for, so it could be a good thing to do a couple of vids on over the next few months... Just a suggestion!
I just found your channel, and subscribed. Have lived in South West Brisbane for sixty years, but I already found out a lot more about my city than before I was watching. What can I say, your films are beautifully shot and informative and I'm looking forward to going through your older stuff. The camera is an amazing thing, but it cannot see beauty if it isn't there in the eye. What was it Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not." 👍🇦🇺
As someone who watched the Roar video, I really appreciated the effort and the insider access as you put it. Those are definitely the things I'd love to see more of on the channel as it helps me to get to know Brisbane a little more. Hope you continue to continue your channel as I've enjoyed your content thoroughly and have been subscribed since my first video I stumbled upon.
I think it was the wanna move to Brisbane video, but I'm not 100% sure. It was about that time something popped up and I thought it could be interesting, which I was surprised to find it was!@@BrisbaneChannel
I first got into this channel years ago when I watched your street photographers of Brisbane video which I loved; and I think you should do a sequel to it btw. I enjoyed the Brisbane arts scene flavour the channel had in the early days and often commented in those days, but lost interest when it became more generic as I've lived most of my life in Brisbane and just didn't feel engaged with those style of videos. It would be disappointing to see the channel end given the time I've been following you and how I've seen your growth as a film maker over the time. It would be fantastic to see you continue with the 'all access' type videos now you have become so comfortable in front of the camera and producing such good quality content. It's a great advertisement for your business too. With that, a suggestion from me that I'd love to see is a behind the scenes at GOMA; how exhibitions get changed over, how they are funded and how they are sought and secured from artists or other galleries in the first place. I think that would be very interesting. I do hope you continue; I think you have much to offer, and your rewards will surely come, but it will certainly require more than a little persistence. You're doing great work, keep at it.
Thanks for your feedback. I actually know someone pretty high up in GOMA (we studied together at QCA, but she already finished her DVA ages ago while I continue to chip away at my PhD), so that could be a possibility...
Hey what you said in this video really resonated with me. Sadly I know that feeling. I've made a couple of videos that absolutely BOMBED that I put so much time and effort into. I too felt like "why am I doing this?". That being said however, I have also found that some of those videos also showed me what my audience wants and what they don't. So actually they have been my most useful videos. Moreover I have found that when I have made a video about something I wasn't passionate about and I did things for the likes or watches and it flopped I felt worse . Because it went against my "why". My channel had 98 subscribers at the beginning of THIS year and my new years resolution was to get to 250 subscribers. I now have 7597 subscribers. But this coming year my plan is to get my watch time up and create better and better videos. And get better and better at story telling and a whole host of other things. What I am getting at is would you be interested in a few projects where we collaborate?
I really enjoy your channel. I like that you bring a really unique angle on things, which really comes down to you putting yourself into the videos. I think that's what people connect with. I'm happy to see your channel grow as it has. Happy to collaborate down the track for sure. I need to get my head right and get a little more sure about what to do with the channel and get that stable first, though. But let's talk in a few months...
Hey, I recently came across your channel became my husband and I are emigrating to Australia soon and will settle in Brisbane because of his job. It has given me so much important information about our impeding move...I love it.
Oh wow! Thanks so much for your support! That's the second superthanks in this channel's history. I'm glad you find value in this channel, and I hope you continue to enjoy the content if it continues.
I watch all your content. The reason why I watch it is not to find out what's going on in Brisbane. Most off the stuff I have already done or already know. Not to say that it has not been insightful. I watch your videos to see another persons perspective of Brisbane. I think you do a great job capturing the spirit of Brisbane and I also like the slick production and thought out story writting. I don't usually leave comments because I watch it on my Smart TV which is really inconvenient to type out comments. I don't know why you do not have more views on many of your videos. The YT algorithm is cruel. Cat YT channels get millions of views so go figure. I think you have done as good of a job as anyone could of done.
Hi, keep going. You helped me so much with info about transport options, and what to visit in Brisbane. Honestly, your info has been invaluable. I'm coming to Brisbane tomorrow.... simply can not wait.
I’m so excited for your new direction. Just wanted to engage with this video though because I’d be gutted if you quit 😢 I know these videos take a lot of hard work but it really does make a difference. I remember commenting on a video of yours maybe 3 years ago when I had just moved to Australia from England and I was in the bush out in New South Wales dreaming of living in Brisbane. Your channel kept the dream alive and I now live in Brisbane, so thank you!
@@BrisbaneChannel Oh wow, yeah it feels like yesterday in some ways. I mentioned I was out in the middle of nowhere out near Parkes and I believe I probably spilled my heart out about how lonely it was 😬Anyway, pleased to say that we’ve been in Brisbane for 2 years now and I love it. Still feel like there’s a lot to learn in many ways but work is going well and managed to make a couple of friends so definitely feel like it was the right decision. Brisbane is such a beautiful place… even if the humidity at this time of year feels like it’s trying to kill me 😂
I like your content, I recommend more TH-cam Shorts, but instead of just filming locations, explain the location, such as a mini series like: "Top 5 places this Summer to visit in Brisbane", short retention videos which are more digestible and clickable, also have audible commentary mixed with the beautiful photography, not just quiet photography of travelling a location, a big strength of your channel is the informative language you use. Play to your strengths. What tactics get the clicks and retention and intrigue. That can also help alleviate the problem of long form content taking to much time to produce, reduce it and make it more manageable to your schedule and to the algorithm. Good Luck
Love what you do on the channel. I would love to do what you do but can’t find a way to do it. Issues with the what’s on in X videos are they are only relevant for that month and don’t do much more than that. I would love to see more stories about areas around Brisbane. The story behind Fish lane. The doors in fish lane and other areas. Get out and tell the story. Be a story teller. In all honesty with TH-cam it’s not always about out of the gate. Some things will tank. Give it time. It will respond back. But somethings are all relative. I would love to have a video do 700 views in 6 hours. Best I get is 40 views in 12 hours. Don’t give up. Enjoy the Christmas break and get back into it again.
If only 700 views in 12 hours was a regular occurrence! You mention a Christmas break - I think that's the problem. No break from anything. I'm feeling pretty burnt out, which is probably what's really behind all of this. But all the comments on this video have helped me reflect and also encouraged me to keep going. I'm looking forward to starting up again in 2024 with a fresh slate and more clarity.
@@BrisbaneChannelwe put videos on TH-cam thinking they are all bangers. Sometimes they just are flat. But don’t be discouraged just move on and work on the next one. I have had a few that I think are great and the views are rubbish but a few months later they take off. Some things may just not resonate with the audience or it takes time. Don’t dwell. For me the hard thing I am not monetised so I do this for fun.
Subscribed! I want to support local creators. Loved your transitions in the before and after series - also the tiny doors video style. I think it’s fantastic that you’re showcasing Brisbane so please be sure encouraged, even though it’s frustrating spinning up the subscriptions and engagement. I look forward to learning more about where live. Thanks! I also follow WalkaboutWithRob who does local history to camera - not the same, just different. Collaboration perhaps?
Thanks and welcome! WalkaboutWithRob and I did talk about a collaboration, but we weren't able to work out something that worked for both channels. However another local TH-cam creator - T-ROCKS - had the idea of collecting a handful of Brissie channels and doing a collab of sorts. He discussed it with Rob who then emailed me to ask if I was interested in joining the experiment, after T-ROCKS mentioned THE Brisbane Channel as a possible participant. The idea is that a theme is selected, and each creator makes a video on that theme. Sounded interesting, as it would be cool to see how each channel approached the same topic, so I said I'd definitely be interested. Haven't talked details yet, but it will be interesting to see how it works out (and also the full list of who joins in).
Hi fellow Brisbane Vlogger. Keep up the great work. It can be frustrating and disheartening when you don’t get the views or reach you hoped for. Don’t give up.
@@BrisbaneChannel aww thank you. Yeah it’s disheartening when you spend SO much time researching, filming and most of all editing hey. The ones I get excited about and think are going to do well, seem to flop more. Running out of ideas now. Need to get out of Brisbane lol.
I first followed your channel while trying to find out more about Brisbane before making my move over, but yeah, I did realised that the video frequency reduced when I actually arrived here, I even have all notifications enabled in case I missed any videos, I actually kinda appreciate that "xx things you can do in Brisbane this month" videos, despite the fact that most of the info can be found some where some place with some effort, I think it still feels kinda nice to have a condensed informative video on it. I'd actually be hyped to see "insider documentary" on Brisbane from a different perspective (ie. not the main news channels). Hope you can keep it going.
Don't worry about engagement. Find what you enjoy doing and do that for the personal growth. Who cares if no one looks at it. Anyone who cares will watch. I like your approach so find something YOU want to or enjoy doing for you. I am in Darwin with way less people. I am lucky if I gain 1 subscriber a year.
Quite true, if this helps with personal growth, then he should definitely go for gold. I too enjoy his approach very much, plus I care, so I definitely will watch all of his videos & comment on them, regardless of whether or not the video even interested me in the slightest at all.
Yep. I think because I had some success earlier on and tasted the financial benefits of high engagement, I've been chasing that ever since. I need to let that go and just focus on doing what is ME.
Hi Adam I always enjoy watching your all your videos. They are very informative for people new to Brisbane or looking to expand their usual routine and lifestyle. However I feel the content may be too broad. My personal favourites are your earlier food videos. Food is such a universal topic. That’s how I found your channel - where to eat, good food spots, local recommendations, cheap eats, food shops etc. Perhaps broaden your scope to include unique people, places and events around Queensland. My regular channels to watch are Paolo from Tokyo, Janice Fung in Sydney, and Sydney Food Boy for engaging content to see how they navigate and showcase their cities. All the best!
Thanks for your feedback. I'll take a look at the channels you mentioned to see how they approach things. But I think at the end of the day, I need to follow the things I'm curious about, and to trust that over time, people who are curious about the same things will find their way to the channel.
As an ex-pat living in the US hoping/expecting to return very soon I have found your videos to be a connection to my home city. I have enjoyed watching your videos as I have been away and I get the opportunity to catch up on what has changed since I left. That’s probably an audience you might not have thought about before. I can understand the amount of time and effort that goes into making these videos. If you are doing this primarily as a source of income then have you also thought about something like Patreon? I think the Insider Access idea is great. Have you thought about freelancing for one of the local news networks? I also think behind the scenes looks at charity organizations, pet adoption places (pounds?) and places that offer community service would be helpful to a lot of people. You are right that a lot of what you are doing can be found with general internet services. What about some real investigative journalism? The plight of the homeless on the streets, maybe go on a ride-along with the police?
as someone who has recently moved here, i found your channel to show me things I didn't know existed. Maybe a video on how you actually find the information you do would be good for those who are new here? Is it websites? Papers? Clubs? Pass your knowledge about how to find what someone wants to do, and keep your channel for those things in brissy you find worthy of talking about. I know juggling a fulltime job, then filming, editing must not be easy but at the end of the day, it is your life, no matter how much value I find in your output. Even if you want help with what your doing to spread the load, let us know... Update: Ok, after watching the entire video I see where your coming from - why don't you split the role? We create a non-profit called the THE Brisbane chanel - have a website where we collate all the whats on, what to do as that is important for new families. Then this youtube channel can just be dedicated to the documentary side - history of Brisbane and things - a 100% documentary based thing about Brisbane and surrounding areas. If you don't get the clicks/counts/cashflow you desire, the youtube channel can go to a slow death. Again, this is just my opinion
I actually had considered doing a video on how I find what's on, and then also moving the what's on topic from videos to posts on the community page which can be updated as new events arise. I know almost nobody visits the community tab, but I guess if it were more frequently updated, they may get into the habit.
@@BrisbaneChannel Maybe the video how you find information and then highlight you will now put them into the community event and make the main channel content your documentation side. That works for me, even if the community content links to the pages that lists events....
Given your current TH-cam funk I have a fun video idea for you to finish of the year. I want to see a video about the festive buses current travelling around Brisbane. Most importantly I want to see you on the Barbie bus.
Haha, unfortunately I won't have time for that, but I will be doing one more fun little video that will be Christmas-themed. Not great as evergreen content, but it will connect to a 2024 topic that is very Brisbane. I had avoided it previously as it had been covered by someone else, but from now on, I'm just gonna do what I want to do and what I'm interested in. I'm sure many people will enjoy it if I take that approach as well.
@@BrisbaneChannelalways cover the videos you want to do. Look after yourself. It’s what’s in front of the camera that makes the difference. Your perspective
As someone who has lived in brisbane for 8ish years, i always enjoy the content of your videos. I think brisbane is a hard place to document, I love living here but the things that are out there to do are sometimes niche and dare i say "cliquey". The events in the parks on sundays are purely focused on families, and the live music events in the valley only cater towards young (18-30yo's), as examples. These niches are hard to infiltrate and give coverage to (even as a passionate person), compared to other cities that i have lived in the past that want everyone doing everything, all the time. The thing i am getting at is, your videos are great and they make me excited about being apart of the same city as you, but brisbane is not open/inclusive/big enough city for you to give the bulk of your creative talent to. I am keen to see anymore content you produce, and will always welcome passionate people giving voice to the things i love. Also i feel that the BCC is severly underestimating the impact creators like you can have on the perception of a city, and give you a larger creative licnese to be a part of the future of the city (especially with the olympics coming up, someone should really tell the BCC about that). Also i really enjoyed your Roar video, just FYI!
Thanks. I've been speaking to people in different worlds to mine within Brisbane, and hoping they'll help get me the access to those cliquey kinda places or circles. I've just been questioning if it will be worth doing so. Also been planning to approach the BCC directly as well and pitch the advantages of working with the channel. But again, not sure if it will be worth the effort. I'm probably just a little overloaded and spread too thinly, so when things don't go well with the channel, it makes it a bigger issue, because I've spent so much time on it with little reward in any sense of the word.
Hey Adam, I have struggled finding a tribe, it's forwards, backwards land, the quality of your work is first rate, there are very few people watching know what it takes to create something from nothing only to see it bomb. Stick to your guns, and try to have fun along the way. As Rob said, we set our own expectations, but we are the link between this and the audience. Keep Rockin mate, T-rocks
My new approach going forward will definitely to do what I want to do and what I enjoy. Hopefully that will translate into better videos that people enjoy more as well.
I agree with Rob. It's really a question of being very clear in your own mind about why you are on youtube. If it's about getting views then you are almost certain to be disappointed. It helps to remember that Brisbane is a very small market within a giant global platform so the algorithym has no particular reason to promote our videos. My advice is to make the videos you want to make and let the views come or not, it doesn't matter.
You go mate! I feel you when you are saying how much work you out into your videos and you are not seeing the effect you expected. My advice to you is to just stick in there a bit longer. These things take time and, just like in business, those with patience will catch the fish :) Meaning everything always takes longer as expected. So just stick in there and dont give up on your vision that easily. However, also don't be afraid to pivot as long as it still lights the fire in you. I personally saw your channel, looking for insights about what living in Australia really is like and found your videos very informative. So hang in there and have fun on the way! Dont give up! :) (That also goes for your PhD... from a fellow PhDler ;) )
Thanks. I'll be sticking with it, although the PhD completion is slightly in doubt (that's a pretty long and complex story, but if I don't finish, it will be largely thanks to the university not valuing certain fields and frequently cutting staff - which multiple times included my supervisors). Still about 75% sure I'll scrape through, though. What's yours in?
@@BrisbaneChannel Sounds good :) Mine is in Neurotech (Biomedical Engineering), although I finished a while ago already. The most important thing is to just not give up and once you have all requirements met, don't hesitate to go for it immediately and finish it. You are working for yourself after all and its your title. Good luck further with everything!
I think what you do in channel is great! I agree with the one previous comment from a subscriber about being profound. You are doing a great job, no doubt about it! May be try to focus on real estate space as I n know lots of people looking for information around investing and also buying properties 😊. All the best!
Thanks. I've been thinking about doing some real estate-related videos, but am working out how to do them in a way that is different from the channels that are specifically dedicated to that topic. There will definitely be some content along those lines in the coming year, just not 100% sure what it will be yet.
I found your channel whilst searching for Aus street photography channels. I enjoyed your vids on that topic. I find many street photos on Insta or Fb have no story/meaning. Yes they document, but it is hard to find good work, A lot of people think street photography is just that, click a street scene. There needs to more Aus content extolling purposeful clever work. I think many have to post a dozen shots from every trip out, rather than show only the best work. If you truly love this genre, it is a path you could follow with more passion.
I think the issue with special insider access type videos is that your audience likely has completely different interests, and people will only watch the videos that interest them. For example, I would absolutely watch that video about the Cross River Rail tunnels (and now have my fingers crossed that it will one day get uploaded 🤞) but I have zero interest in soccer so did not watch your one about the women's Roar. Even though Brisbane is one big city, there are few things that we all care about together the same amount and each topic/event/organisation only caters to a small segment of us. It sounds like you what you are mainly interested in is the documentary making side of things, no matter the topic, and the unique opportunities that can unlock. If that is what you want, then absolutely pursue it. It really does sound like it could deliver insights and content that people would otherwise never see. However, you will end up with a variety of videos that each cater to a different audience, which would probably bring lower views. That said, if one becomes viral and people enjoy your style of editing and presentation in that vid, then people might check out your backlog which could bring some more growth over time. Ultimately, running a TH-cam channel is very risky and success is never guaranteed. So you have to ask yourself if you can be motivated and happy to produce videos even with no expectation of views or engagement. At least, that's my view as someone with zero desire to make videos of my own, so take all this with a mountain of salt 😂
Couldn't agree more ! I always found Brisbane boring as most people only talk about sports and nightclubs and nothing else much. There isn't a lot worth doing if you don't like either of the two. However I do enjoy videos about history of Brisbane places. I feel more connected to the place after I learned about its history but I might be a small sector of people (???) I want to say thank you for putting out those videos granted that I don't watch most of others but like another poster said, you have to ask yourself does it make you excite to produce the videos ? If not, then it is probably time to reconsider its future. A client of mine who grew up in Brisbane once told me history of the McCullough family and the McCullough Rd in Sunnybank which named after them. He also told me how Sunnybank and Pineland Plaza used to be farms and how the subdivision come about and I found that fascinating ! Not sure if there are enough people like me to justify you doing contents like this though ??? Maybe run a poll on contents you have in your mind and see what your audience would like to see ??
@@mayhk8622hmmm... I feel like as if though such videos are more suited to walkaboutswithrob instead, as I personally think that this channel has more to do with food, events, and if this place is suitable for people who want to move here to live in (plus money saving tips, weather & cost of living etc), rather than necessarily about its history - only two history videos, more or less, exist on here
@mayhk8622 As @mythicalwolfBNEtrainproduction has said, I think you'd love WalkaboutWithRob, which is a channel very much dedicated to looking at Brisbane through a historic lens. There's definitely interest in this kind of thing, but as Rob is already serving this niche very well, I feel the need for that type of content is already filled. Not saying I won't do history-related videos, but I also don't want videos to be redundant because it's already been done elsewhere.
@primoultimo4272 I think you're right to an extent. The danger in the type of videos I'd really enjoy making is that each individual topic may not be of interest to a wider audience. But I guess I'm hoping that if I go down that path, that I'll build a following of people who have a general curiosity (like I have) who are likely to watch maybe 3 out of each 5 videos I make because they enjoy the videos because of what I bring to them rather than just the subject matter. But I need to accept that the size of that audience will not likely ever be particularly large.
Of course it’s up to you, however I think your channel is very interesting. Definitely Brisbane is city that is undergoing lots of change, growth and development and there has been a lot of internal migration from the southern states. I think you would do well in the next few years bringing us the news of how Brisbane is tracking, the various changes in suburbs, the businesses and the schools and what employment industries are developing;
Personally, when I watch videos on Brisbane I'm looking for history, architecture, new building projects, infrastructure etc. I'm a Brisbane Roar fan but I'm really not interested in sport interviews. I've watched many videos on New York but I haven't watched any on the New York Yankies baseball club.
Yes, that's a good point - I generally don't watch sport-related videos either. I guess I was just thinking there was so much hype around the Matildas during the women's world cup that there may be more interest in the video than there was. I'm hoping it's just that most people that watch this channel just aren't that into sport!
Hi Adam it would be a damn shame if you didn't continue with the channel. I joined it because it gives information about local Brisbane things. I personally didn't find the Roar a super interesting topic as I'm not into soccer very much. But I'd love to learn about exciting businesses, restaurants, initiatives, stuff that's happening around me, and if that's insider stuff you can get exclusive access to even better. I think it's a great channel and I have missed your videos. Thanks for your honesty and keep going please!
Thanks so much for your feedback. I am likely to keep going, and it's all the feedback (positive and negative) in these comments that will help make things better all 'round. I'm really glad to hear you've enjoyed things so far, and I'm sure from 2024 it'll only get better (both for viewers like you and for myself).
@@BrisbaneChannel it might also help to make the videos shorter and post more frequently. I hear that a weekly frequency of content is best on TH-cam. I'm not the expert but perhaps that reduces the time it takes to create a video as well.
I have just discovered your channel. I like the videos I have come across. I like your idea in to insider information on Brisbane. Be very interested in life in Brisbane.
Being a creative is such a weird thing. I myself have the same feelings for my photos and videos, a lot of other creators will say "if you're doing it for views then you shouldn't be doing it" and I somewhat disagree with that statement, it's easier said than done but if I create something for me AND other people to enjoy but no one sees it I feel like all that effort is lost, leaving me with similar questions you've been asking yourself. For me it's my photos on Instagram, at first my reach was great and then out of nowhere there was no reach due to a bunch of stupid changes that favours more well established accounts, kick in the balls since I like sharing my stuff with others, I'm actually happier if I get good reach but little interactions (likes and comments) because at the very least someone saw it. With my TH-cam stuff I don't care as much, normally shrug it off if something doesn't work since for me it's a secondary thing, so I could imagine how frustrating it could be if you work hard on something and nothing comes of it. Anyway, I do watch a lot of videos relating to city infrastructure so one of the ideas you did mention about the CRR is interesting to me.
Oh don't get me started on Instagram! My main account got hacked and I lost access. When I started a new one, it was a completely different platform, and I've been unable to build anything with any attempts to do something on IG. I really hate the way there's no more "recent posts", and it's all just posts that are popular that IG thinks you want to see. Makes it impossible for anyone who wasn't established before the changes to get any traction!
@@BrisbaneChannel 100% what were they thinking changing the hashtag filtering options to “Top Posts” and “Recent Top Posts”? What’s the point of the hashtag anymore? That’s where most of my reach and followers came from and ever since it changed I have like 10% of the reach I had before. There’s even some feature accounts that are giving up because they can’t find new posts on their hashtag, ridiculous.
@@demiqshots Yeah. I have no interest in IG anymore 'cause I can't find interesting images based on hashtags. Just get the same overprocessed viral-type photos and nothing of any real substance. The Instagram Reddit sub is nothing but hate for the platform, and I fully understand why!
I much prefer the old channel before its name change TBH. I dont want to discourage you but IMO the city based story really only works for some unique places which are of historical significance and current tourism hot spots. For instance, if i got 20min to kill, i would much prefer watching a city tour of Istanbul, Ulanbaartaar or Goa than Brisbane.
I really appreciate your frankness. I think there are cities that would appeal to people anywhere due to some special qualities/sights etc, and I agree that Brisbane is not really that type of place. I think Brisbane-themed videos will generally only ever appeal to people who are living, visiting or moving here. But before I made the decision to make this the Brisbane Channel exclusively, I had tried posting videos about other things that I thought would be more interesting, but it was always the Brisbane ones that got the most views (by a lot). So I think it's likely to be Brisbane content and accept the viewership will never be massive, or pull the curtain closed for good.
@@BrisbaneChannel I guess you have weigh the pros and cons of continuing the effort to produce high quality content. Value is in the eyes of beholders could be more than monetization.
If you really feel like you have to force yourself to do these videos then maybe its time to move on. Not saying I don't appreciate these videos very much as im interested in moving to Brisbane. I'm a bit materialistic so I tend to just do something that has the most amount of reward, either money terms or leaving me with the most amount of free time to reinvest into myself. Hope you pursue that kinda route with no guilt to keep the most long term happiness for yourself.
I guess, as quite a few others have said, I need to figure out why I do this and what I really want to get out of it - whether it's about enjoying the making of videos in itself or if I want financial benefit from it. It's kinda both, but I think the two are not necessarily compatible. When I create the videos that I'm pretty sure will do well or will grow the channel, I enjoy the process much less than the ones I think are fun to make. I think I need to figure out which is more important and accept when the other doesn't really happen. I think I will keep going, but I really need to work out the focus before I jump back into action.
Your channel is valuable and well-liked, I would suggest taking a break to regroup rather than ditching it altogether. Sorry to say, but the under-performance of the Roar video was (from my perspective as a viewer) entirely predictable. That is not an adverse reflection on "insider access" or documentary-style videos (nor on the quality of the Roar video), it is a result of the subject matter. If the expectation of the viewer is to see videos about infrastructure, demography, history, local events, etc, then a sport-themed video is unexpected and possibly unwanted. Sport is a different subject area entirely, and the Roar women's team is (in a Brisbane context) a niche within a niche. Also, whilst they may not be your favourite videos to produce, compilations of existing publicly-available material are worthwhile on TH-cam, particularly if there is depth to the research and some accompanying insights or analysis as well. Perhaps combine the compilation approach with interviews illustrating or clarifying your topic?
I do think you're right. An interest in some aspects of the Brisbane story doesn't automatically indicate an interest in other aspects. "Niche within a niche" is well put. And I guess I'd forgotten that even where I've drawn together information easily found online, I still bring something unique in how I connect ideas or small bits of critique I may bring based on personal experience or the lived experience of others on the topics I've come across that may change the way information is interpreted. I guess part of the value of TH-cam is not in putting relatively objective facts and information in front of people, but also in sharing the personal experience and opinions of people who are dealing with those things in real life. I'm really thankful for everyone like you who has shared their thoughts, as it's really helped me with reflecting on things and how to proceed. I'm actually excited now to see what comes in 2024, as I feel I've shaken off some of the negative feelings I've had connected with the channel, and am looking forward to moving onward and upward. Mostly because I've clarified to myself what "upward" really means to me, and what's important. Thanks again.
Always wondered how this channel got so many subs, yet so few views and comments. Makes me feel sad to be thinking that all of this could one day be forever gone if you so wish to leave, though you always will have my support on here no matter what, even if i rarely comment on here. I specifically want to point right out to you that although some of the content on here might very well be not too my personal liking, but i still watch all of the videos, because i do know how much time, effort & energy you always put into all of them - not counting the fact that i see how few views you get on some of them. So then, do i like sports or xmas lights? Not at all. Will there be any more videos in particular about things i dislike? There will be. Will i still watch them? Yes i will, because i want it to be known to you that i appreciate what you do. As for why i rarely comment, i often see too many arguments, negative comments and just generally misleading ones that tick me off and not want to view any of the comments, but the videos themselves i still watch. The only thing remaining that i want to say is that for me, videos where you must get special permission to see something is frankly quite exciting to me, as it makes me so thrilled to be getting to see any certain thing that for the most part is always strictly limited to a small portion of people to be able to witness, and seeing something that no other person should really be doing so just personally makes it feel like as if though you get to be a part of a very special group of individuals who got quite lucky to do just that in the first place without having to actually go there yourself and be asking for permission to get in there just to have a look.
Thanks, I really appreciate your support! I understand why you avoid the comments section also, although you generally don't find the negative things in my comments section because they're almost empty most of the time!
To be honest, it probably will. But the feedback from everyone in these comments (and a lot of reflection on my part) will make the channel better for me and for everyone else as well (I'm hoping)...
Your dilemma has been experienced by many a creative on social media, and the question you should be asking is not what does your audience want to see, but instead what is your primary motivation for having a TH-cam channel? Ask yourself if you are just putting out videos for views/likes/subscribers, or if it’s cause you enjoy creating videos? If you do it purely for your enjoyment, then how many people see or like your videos is going to become a very small concern to you, if at all. You can hear it in your tone in this video, how enthusiastic you sound when you were talking about the videos you enjoyed making, as opposed to how demotivated you sounded when you talked about the ones you didn’t like to make. You can’t control people into watching or enjoying your content, but you can at least control your decisions in what you want to create. I know it can be disheartening when you don’t get much engagement with your output, but some of that can be attributed to the algorithm. If you’re not doing so already, cross-promote your videos on your other social media accounts, let your network of contacts know about your channel. If you can’t raise engagement, then you can at least raise awareness of your channel.
Yes, I was trying to have the best of both worlds - satisfaction in the process/feeling good about the work I was producing, and getting more views/growing the channel. Having tasted the financial benefit of when things are doing well, I wanted to increase on that, but it was coming at the cost of the personal satisfaction. I think the way forward is to just focus on what I'm excited to produce, and hoping that I find the right audience for that type of content. At least if I don't, the process isn't something that will cause me pain, but I'll get some benefit from it even if it doesn't pay off financially.
it might be that youtube showed it to people who were just not interested in that topic? I think you just need to give some slack to yourself and keep doing much more videos before you draw such a conclusion. You do really nice vids
That's actually a good point. I know I would not be someone to view a sport-related video. I think I was just expecting a little more interest, as the whole nation went crazy over the Matildas during the women's world cup.
@@BrisbaneChannelto me, I feel like that it just is because your channel is just too small, thus unable to reach enough people - besides, I think that the fans might be a bit more interested in the game itself rather than an interview with them
Ok I am guilty of watching your videos and not giving you a Like and no comment, am I the only one, probably not, so what, does it matter. Every youtube channel is unique in some way, yours is unique too, your voice your style. TH-cam is tough.
I would like to watch more Brisbane based inside access videos. Regarding the future of the channel, I feel it would be a shame to stop after the disappointment of your Brisbane Roar video (which I watched and enjoyed), as your future videos could pay off with higher viewership numbers and thus provide you with motivation to create more content. I appreciate how frustrating it must be to spend hours on producing videos, only to have them poorly received. Perhaps you could adopt a wait and see approach - to create a few more videos and analyse how they perform before deciding on the channel's future. That said, if you feel that producing videos has become more of a burden than a joyful experience, then I wouldn't blame you for closing the channel. As for determining what your viewers would like to watch, maybe you could post a poll with different video ideas?
I do think basing my decisions on a single video not performing was a bit knee-jerk. I really love the poll idea, but there are two problems I've encountered with this. Firstly, very few people actually participate in them. I don't think it's just about people not wanting to, but also whether they even show up at all. The algorithm is fickle and may or may not put the poll in front of people. Secondly, I find it quite limiting, as I need to have set options in the poll itself. I'd rather people raise the ideas of what they'd like to see themselves, rather than voting on ideas I've already chosen. There could be a "Other - comment below" option to choose, but in the past, I've found people rarely do that.
2:00 Sure they can find it online ....the information may not be true so multiple sources help. If everyone has same mindset, there would be NO information online. It was thanks to YOU i made a big move and ditched NSW. it was thanks to YOU i chose an area to live in. It's thanks to YOU i found these 51 events. Its hard to find it online when you dont know what you are looking for i guess. I fully get it. Burnt out. Take a break. I am taking forced break because for months i worked 7 days a week trying to settle here and buy things and i just dont wanna do anything currently. I can relate. 2:15 Again Adam, i disagree, YOU may not seem you are unique but to me, you are. It's also how a person talks, delivers information. Some humans just outright annoy me within ten seconds whereas i could listen to you for hours. P.S dont think i haven't noticed deleted video with Adrian being absent. Should of left it. 5:23 Regarding views Adam, i know it sucks. But its also marketing mixed with other strategies. Have you noticed how trash content has easily high views and gems like these don't? That's one of reasons i ditched my cooking show. Not a lot were interested but the ones that were, one fan was worth to me a 100. It's also to decide, are you here to sell? Are you here to help? are you here to sell and help? what's your goal? if it helps, i wouldn't watch men football either, just not a sport person in general. Can't force the willing either, you know? 7:00 Sadly you have to be "big" before anyone sort of gives you attention which is messed up because how else do you grow? its classic "30 years of experience needed but cant work here to get experience:" Recommendation: Ultimately, do what you really want to do. Life is too short. Perhaps these 3 years were enough help to reach us across. Who knows. Perhaps lets say you make a video of "things to see", you could go there yourself and do photography as you enjoy and make a video collab between knowledge and scenery. Fuse your likes with something. But if you want truth i see, i think you would be "better off" ditching channel and focusing yourself and family especially since you started your business. It sucks as an answer but financially and mentally its the way to go. That was the outcome of cooking show channel. Which is a shame i do miss it but i just...cant spread resources too thin as well, im only one. Regardless what path you take, ill support you. Only a tiny percentage of TH-camrs get big. Most don't but that's okay. Everyone has different roles in lives and priorities. Sadly that's how world has come after Rona. Honestly if i wasn't so broke, id easily donate. I am thankful to you everyday though.
I want you to continue. I want you to make short documentaries. I want to see how you do it, and I want to learn from you. I think that you got something out of my humble channel yesterday, and I'd like to make another humble suggestion: find a passion that matters more than the success of the videos or the channel, so that you want to make the videos irrespective of how many people watch them. My channel is tiny but the purpose behind it is potentially world changing. I know that me making videos probably won't contribute in any meaningful way to keeping this planet viable for my daughters, but I think that video is the medium through which I might have the largest impact. All of my longer videos tank, all of them. Only some of my shorts get somewhat decent views. I'm making a short documentary at the moment that I fully expect to tank. But, this in no way negatively impacts my motivation for making videos because the cause matters too much. As I wrote at the start, I want to learn from you. I don't want you to stop because I've only just found you (well, actually, you found me) and I don't want the opportunities to evaporate. I hope that you find a cause, a motivation, that is bigger than the channel, hopefully bigger than you, and drives you to create content for many years.
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, it got lost among some other comments on a community post. Thanks so much for the feedback and advice. My decision going forward has been to focus on the videos I want to do. I will be keeping what people would like to see in mind, but the main thing is to enjoy the process of making each one, and to focus on what I feel is meaningful. I'm actually quite excited for what 2024 holds for this channel!
@@BrisbaneChannel Please keep in touch. I have been gradually meeting up with other southern Queenslander TH-camrs who do a lot of different things. I think it would be great if we could learn from and support each other. I admit that I have some selfish motivations here: I currently do food delivery riding to fund my philanthropy (so I don't send myself broke by constantly dipping into my teacher wage). It would be nice to eventually replace the food delivery riding with some revenue from TH-cam. I've given myself five years to learn how to do that before I retire (I have no aspirations of getting a personal income from the FBM channel, only to cover costs). That way, the philanthropy for reforestation can fund itself, rather than me having to do a side hustle to fund it. I would also like to volunteer filming other TH-camrs, to learn from them and mutually benefit from the footage. If you ever need a camera person for free then let me know.
Rebrand the channel if you want rather than getting rid of it because the content you've already produced is still valuable to those interested in Brisbane. Just expand the scope of topics you want to explore instead of focusing on just Brisbane.
Since it's an "honest talk", I'll be real (since it wouldn't be beneficial for you otherwise). I found the channel and engaged with it initially for the content that was ABOUT Brisbane and living there. When I have a look at your playlist, all the videos that I engaged with all come up as your most popular videos. "The Truth about Brisbane" "::The Facts about Brisbane" Tours around suburbs like South Bank, The Best Coffee to find in Brisbane etc. All of these are among your most popular videos. I lived in Brisbane for many years, I now live In Melbourne and enjoyed these videos for allowing me to be in and around Brisbane without actually being there (seeing old places I used to love to visit etc). All of the "things to do in Brisbane at X time" were not interesting to me because 1. Maybe that specific activity is not of interest to me and 2. I'm not in Brisbane anyway so it's irrelevant, I suspect these videos are only of interest to people IN Brisbane. Other videos about street photography etc are also not of interest to me. IU subscribed to "The BRISBANE Channel" and engaged with The Brisbane content. I've stayed subscribed just in the case you might upload videos I'm interested in etc. And all of this is not to say I don't enjoy your videos, I actually enjoy them quite a lot which is why I'm subbed, I also really like your presentation so I wouldn't want my comments to come across as negative. It's also fine if you aren't interested in making these types of videos anymore but I think it's fairly clear that the type of content I subscribed for is also the content other people are after since it's all among your most viewed and popular content. Some behind the scenes deep dives may be of interest to me if it's specific to Brisbane, like maybe a tour around acstlemain brewary or something lol.. But these are going to be hit and miss for different people as it's dependant on interests and obviously a lot of people are just not interested in women's soccer, however well made the video is.
Thanks for speaking directly, I always appreciate that kind of feedback. Whatever I do on this channel going forward, it will only be Brisbane-based content. I made the decision to change the name of the channel to THE Brisbane Channel because it was clear that's what people were engaging the most with. I'd be stupid to deviate from that on this channel (If I really wanted to go a completely different route, I'd start a new channel). I am sure I will always make some general Brisbane videos (like the overall situation in Brisbane each year etc), as those videos are the ones that keep the channel running and appeal to people whether they want to move here, live here, or just want to visit. But they are a massive amount of work to research, shoot and edit, so they'd be every few months kinda videos. When I talk of documentary-style videos, it's really Brisbane stories I'm looking at exploring. But you're right that they may have wildly varying appeal depending on what aspect of Brisbane they're looking at. I'm prepared for that. Actually not so much that I'm prepared for that, but I'm not going to care so much about that from now on. I'm just going to focus on Brisbane stories, places, events, whatever that are interesting to me, and people will watch or they won't. If I see a particular topic or theme resounds well with the viewers, I'm more likely to do that kind of thing again, and vice versa if they don't (like the Roar one). I'm actually beginning to feel excited about the possibilities for the channel in the coming year, which feels pretty good after being a bit down about it until now.
Hi Adam, I left a very long and detailed comment here, but it has disappeared. TH-cam claims community guidelines were violated. I have written nothing but kind words for you. I hope that comment is coming through eventually. Best wishes, Kevin
Hey, I think I might have seen you in action today at the lower end of Queen St Mall, filming the two ladies in the Christmas costumes getting their photos taken with kids. I wasn't sure it was you or I would have said gidday, but now I see your rig in this video, I'm pretty sure it was you. I was the guy in the green shirt with the pram. I had put a comment yesterday saying some Brisbane history might be an idea. I think the algorithm deleted it for some reason. Might explain why the comments are down.
Yep that was me. Was doing a video on the little doors that are up for Christmas, figured I'd get some general Queen Street Mall at Christmas footage to supplement the stuff with the doors. I remember replying to one comment that mentioned historical content, but not sure whose it was. I'll check to see if it was yours, or if yours ended up being sent to "held for review"...
I checked, and I can't find it anywhere. In terms of history, I think the WalkaboutWithRob channel has that pretty well covered. But was there specific aspects of Brisbane's history you had in mind?
This is up to you but why not expand the channel to try and cover South-East QLD if you have the time in the future and documentary about Brisbane is a great ideas, i have watch so many video on you since 2006 and maybe do some quick video on stuff as well on different platforms.
I think I'll focus on just creating for TH-cam, as I already feel overwhelmed trying to find the time. Adding other platforms is something I don't think I could handle, at least while I'm juggling so many things.
instead of showing Brisbane you can switch to show your more or less everyday activity, example: don't tell us what you can do in a national park (you are not national geographic channel), just do it and show how you did it and how much fun you had while doing it... don't tell me that you can rent a kayak and go on an expedition, do it, show us where you swam, how you capsized, what places you swam to, what you did there... take a few friends, have fun with them and show us the most interesting parts of such a trip
I think the videos that do well on this platform are the ones as you described. I myself enjoy watching those videos where the energy between a group of friends is infectious, and it doesn't even really matter what they're doing. The problem there is you need friends. As a socially-challenged introvert, that's my weakness, and I lack the outgoing charismatic personality that those videos really require. I do agree with you that that's a good way to enjoy success on TH-cam, but I have to work with what I've got.
I love your content. Like the suburbs one was great. Maybe in the video ask to subscribe and like and comment. If I’m not reminded in a video I forget to give a like tbh.
I think you should do what you enjoy doing. If you're not enjoying it then maybe you should move on. 1. I think the big question is what is your motivation to have a YT channel? 2. Is it to share your experiences with whomever stumbles across your video? 3. Or, is it to make money from YT and potentially become a fulltime YTer?
Yes, I've really had to ask myself why I do this and what I want to get out of it. Honestly, financial reward has been a part of it. I do not see this ever being a full-time thing, but I would like it to be able to supplement my other income enough to make it worth the time investment. But I've come to realise that it's not likely to pay off enough to make it worth doing something I'm not really enjoying. So I've decided to focus on making videos that I do enjoy making, and to try to let the other aspects go. It would give me more satisfaction to keep pushing myself to create better quality content, continue building my skills, and to cover stories that I'm curious about, I just need to accept that that may not be what gets lots of views or builds the channel, at least not at first. But maybe over time, I'll find more of the audience that connects with the content I enjoy making.
@@BrisbaneChannel When I started I was very discouraged by the lack of views but I new I really enjoyed the process. Taking the photos and video and editing and publish. I eventually realized that I don't really care if someone doesn't like my video, as long as I enjoyed creating it. In saying that, it has been a while since my last 🤣
I personally would genuinely like to see this channel continuing, as I feel that it still has so much under-used potential. Why not ask us in a community post for things which all of us would like to see more of, as it can be able to enable all of the audience to have some form of control on what gets uploaded on here, rather than having it all just on your shoulders. Because to tell you in all honesty, there could easily be things here that you know absolutely nothing of at all - and if you were to never ask your audience some questions, then how do you hope to find out about some potentially very special things that just never get advertised online.
The problem I've had is that the community posts have had so little engagement that I don't have faith in that getting me anywhere. Honestly, I'd love for the ideas to be community-sourced, I really would. I know that there's so much potential in that, and that ideas would be much better than what I could come up with myself. Actually the Roar video came from a subscriber suggestion. I just seem to be terrible at getting people to share their ideas. Maybe I'll try a little experiment on the community page in a day or two...
If it's under 8 minutes, I don't watch a video unless it's a specific topic I'm searching for. If you make videos over 8 minutes and under 25 minutes, I'll watch
Dear sir which ever way u like me to call you by the real name or by the channel name. Don't worry about how low the ratings are as in who care less if you have 5 likes or 15 likes or 100 likes. It is no way for you to gain 500 likes or 1,000+ likes. Not unless your some rich person driving luxury cars :) Dont worry about if your subscribers do not comment much at all on your videos. That part is a thing we can't force people to do unfortunately. Today there are millions of channels on you-tube. including heaps of similarity channels as yours. Your channel is not the only channel out there. There are variety of Brisbane channels doing similarity things. We cant control things unfortunately. Perhaps if you made this videos 10 years ago perhaps u where more a unique one of its kind. You are unique like every person making videos of course. Its just that there are too many "Competitors" far too many of them on TH-cam. Too many that people will slip thru the caps where they find better stuff to see then yours if they came past your videos. There are many vloggers i follow in your city of Brisbane some are walking videos and some do IRL content live videos. Which ever way goes to every individual channels out there. But there's too many competitors in the market where people do the same thing walking videos. or Documentary videos about Brisbane like yours. We cant control this specially when the internet is bombarded with 1000+ 1000s of channels to select so i guess your channel in inside there at a number like everyone else too. Dont give up. Its not your fault to get bored of it at times. I believe Brisbane is mainly just a terribly lacking place to celebrate. Beautiful place but terrible lack of festivals or just boring festivals with a jumping castle and kids face painting while adults dont see much fun that is free and in the open. Brisbane australia is rather boring but slowly growing but its a habbit how australians do things compare to California that i come from. over here we go crazy specially if your a content creator. Been too nice and only making documents you might as well open a new digital tv station for all about Brisbane..... Because content here means u have to go crazy and be whatever u want to be as a content creator. Its mad here i know but u get more viewers. But.. :) i dont think you want to go crazy and do crazy things on a video to give attention. Maybe follow others walks of life and do walking videos or something. I dont no. I usually watch people walking videos of the city and theres some i follow which are very active on this. I can see why theres no much excitement with festivals of brisbane. Ive seen not very excitement stuff about brisbane festivals... it just looks like a bunch of event where it is located inside somewhere or in a private park with fence all over it where they charge you just to see an event lol... Not in USA. Then its jumping castles or some pretty lights on a nice healthy large tree.. where... all that i wouln't call it a actual festival Unless a festival is a big event all over the city with fireworks and music in every street of course. Dont quit. Just hold on there.. Dont worry about how low LIKES you get or how low comments u get. I see other streamers in your city too they dont get heaps and heaps of likes and heaps of comments. They too suffer this im sure about that but they will not stop from making content for the viewers and that is a true fact. So they also suffer like you. Its a very very slow progress to become number 1 on youtube. U will never become number 1 nor others... imposible.... theres too many millions of channels already created on youtube. SOMEONE will become number 1 perhaps... But in our lifetime you better off just dont worry too much about how many likes you have or how low comments u have.... Who cares.. people today wouldnt careless about it. As long u make videos at least u have 100 something likes too. And i hope the best for all brisbane local creators on yoututube all the best regardless they have 10 or 100 likes.... a number is just simply a number. All the best and i say continue.
Dude, I think you're extremely talented but too clean. Instead of contacting BCC to look at the tunnel, contact a group of urban explorers and follow them going around tunnels at night. Instead of women's soccer follow the gritty part of Brisbane, maybe some Valley junkies or drug dealers. Embrace your hate of Brisbane. Show us the shit parts. Show us the crime and the drugs. That's just my two cents.. I know it's not worth much but it'd be such a shame if you quit TH-cam, I know you can be successful at this. You have a good camera presence and personality and you're ob 12:22 viously very talented at video editing.
I actually had the urbex thing on my to do list. I'd definitely like to get a little more down and dirty with the darker side of things. If I continue, it won't be the central part of things, but it will definitely be in the mix.
@@BrisbaneChannel It'd be really cool, I could see you being a Louis Theroux type if you did those kinds of videos. It'd be really sad if you stopped doing TH-cam all together.
Ok so the video on the Brisbane Roar was never shown to me. Doesn’t come up in suggestions or alerts or anything. Didn’t even know you’d made it so that may explain the low views. The rest of the video feels basically you put a gun to the viewers heads and saying “agree with me or else” - there is no choice here. You end the Brisbane channel or you do what you want and that’s it….thats basically what you said. You said you are busy with your business and phd….ok do those then. No viewer has demanded you stop anything do Brisbane channel videos. If that is suffering then go concentrate on that. No one is making you do vids. Plenty of big creators on here had suddenly quit and stop making videos coz they are doing their own lives. It’s like - oh well that’s a shame but life don’t stop coz a TH-camr stops making vids. I think the majority of the viewers watched the channel because they wanted to see Brisbane. Hints and tips. Places to go. Things to see. Things to do. People can’t just go and hang with Brisbane Roar or do “insider stuff” - you like that coz you are getting stuff other people can’t and doing things other people can’t do but that’s for you not the viewer. What does the viewer get out of it? You said “what do I get out of it” - well it’s the viewers that watch and dictate what they like don’t they so it’s not about you it’s about the viewer and people want stuff on Brisbane they can experience themselves clearly by the view numbers. If you want then side stuff then pursue that and show it but it may not be your audience and that risk is on you. Do what what you wanna do and maybe the audience thats like it and get a new audience or do what’s been successful - that’s what every long term TH-camr goes through. Very few TH-camrs do the exact same thing now as they did when they started. Think you need to decide what you care about and what you don’t and understand the life of a TH-camr.
I agree with you fully, it does feel like we just are getting forced to decide the fate of this channel for him. And besides, if he really must do so, then he seriously should just focus on his PhD and business, because those definitely are really important things in his life to make him money, and hopefully be happy as well.
I think there's a lot of truth to what you say. I think there's a balance between doing what's authentic and meaningful to me with doing what the audience wants to see, which is something I struggle with a lot. I actually would like to know what people would like to see, but whenever I ask people in videos to let me know, I get no response in the comments. So I'm kinda left on my own to just guess and work with that. Actually the Roar video came from a suggestion from a subscriber. But my feeling is that if I do what I feel is interesting and useful, others who feel the same will find their way to the channel eventually, and I'll build an audience that fits the areas I bring value. But on the other hand, I don't want to just turn my back on the people who have already arrived here and say "if you don't like this new direction, then see ya". So while I do think I'm gonna focus more on doing videos on things that motivate me and I enjoy discovering, I'm not planning on abandoning things I've done that has built the community that THE Brisbane Channel has now. I think I didn't really make that clear in the video - but that's what happens when you just hit record with out preplanning what to say. I'm hoping to be able to find a balance moving forward. But I do think that if I create the kind of content I enjoy making, I'll build a community that connect with that, and if it means I lose people who are after something different, that's OK. I will always listen to what people want and try to cater to that as well, but I think I need to be clear on what I want this channel to be and to try to find the right audience for that. Basically sticking to what I feel uses my strengths and interests, but with flexibility to integrate what the viewers want within those boundaries.
I could if I wanted to - this channel is not subject to that kind of censorship. But I'm not really keen to make this a political thing, I'd rather create something people can enjoy no matter what side of the fence they sit on.
I know how hard you work at these videos. The insider access videos sound great but it is really up to you.I will enjoy watching whatever videos you make as I appreciate what you do for the public.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Very nice response. 🔥😉
Thanks, I appreciate your feedback, which is encouraging. We'll see what happens...
Agree, consolidate content is really good, very helpful and greatly appreciated.
Cheers! I think the informative videos will always be a part of the channel, I'm just figuring out what to do in between those ones.
Yes, it can be quite frustrating when TH-cam decides to push a video of mine that's not great, and ignores another that might be much better.
Im keen for Brisbane Docos👍
Cool. Thanks for saying so, it will help my decision...
@@BrisbaneChanneldocos are my weakness mate
Brisbane needs your media exposure especially now the city is starting to get its Mojo back (after Floods and Covid) and Olympics coming. Your magnificent polished videos are appreciated whatever the decision you come to.
I'll be sticking around. Hopefully the videos will only get better from 2024 onwards. Thanks for your support!
I would like to see insider videos about the Cross River Rail project, Queen's Wharf, and what's happening to prepare for Brisbane 2032.
All things on the list.
Thanks. I will keep going, and I'm really glad to hear it's been useful to you.
I feel the same way.
Keep the channel going😊. I have always wanted to see what's going on in the new train tunnels. Hopefully, you can get access
If I continue, that's definitely something I will try to get. I think I'm beginning to have a large enough subscriber count that I can start asking for access like this, especially when it's such a focused theme to the channel.
@@BrisbaneChannelhey, i really do want to see them tunnels - though they are scheduled to open in just over a year from now
Watching from Tokyo I loved your video talking about reason to live in Brisbane as someone that has been away for 15yrs in Tokyo.
Love to see more Brisbane content - not sure about moving and I really like the authentic way you show Brisbane :)
Thanks. I appreciate that.
I think you created some great content there is only so much you can cover about one place. It is also only limited to people who live here or those who are looking to move.
It sounds like the passion isn't there so maybe your best investing your valuable time to another part of your life.
Best of luck to you, I hope you succeed with your new business and your studies.
There is passion there, but I'm feeling a mismatch between what I'd be passionate about making and what people want to watch.
Hi Jonathan/Jonno. Sounds like a good idea. Let me think about how I could attack it and get back to you soon...
@jonnosri I've just emailed you...
What was it Ralph Waldo Emerson said "Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not." 👍🇦🇺
Thanks so much!
Thanks. I appreciate it. Out of curiosity, what was the first video you saw?
But let's talk in a few months...
done
Hey, I recently came across your channel became my husband and I are emigrating to Australia soon and will settle in Brisbane because of his job. It has given me so much important information about our impeding move...I love it.
Keeeeeep going! Love the channel!
Thanks. Let's see what happens...
I want the channel to stay also.
Thanks
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Hi, keep going. You helped me so much with info about transport options, and what to visit in Brisbane. Honestly, your info has been invaluable. I'm coming to Brisbane tomorrow.... simply can not wait.
I'm glad some of the videos on this channel have been helpful to you. I will be continuing.
I think I remember that comment. How are you finding Brisbane now?
Happy Christmas and happy New year 🎊😅😅😅
You too.
@@BrisbaneChannel Thanks you 😄
Don’t give up.
agreed
You too. I think your content is well-made and should get far more engagement than it does.
@@BrisbaneChannel aww thank you. Yeah it’s disheartening when you spend SO much time researching, filming and most of all editing hey. The ones I get excited about and think are going to do well, seem to flop more. Running out of ideas now. Need to get out of Brisbane lol.
@@TravelWithBek Yep, I have the same experience. And I wish the editing did itself especially!
I actually intend to keep the upcoming events feature, but to put a list each month on the community page rather than making a video for it.
Hi Adam
I always enjoy watching your all your videos.
@@Wayne_Mather That's the plan.
Yep, that's the way I'm leaning.
i love watching your videos about things in brisbane.
As I do myself also.
I appreciate that. Thanks.
Thanks. I've been thinking about doing some real estate-related videos, but am working out how to do them in a way that is different from the channels that are specifically dedicated to that topic. There will definitely be some content along those lines in the coming year, just not 100% sure what it will be yet.
I'd love to see what happens on the ghost tours or UFO group meetings 😮
UFO group meetings? Please tell me more...
The street photographer in me has been in a coma for a while. But he's not dead yet...
Your channel has been useful. If you enjoy it, viewers will enjoy it. Cheers!
Yes, that's my thoughts going forward. I'm just gonna do what I enjoy making, and I am trusting that people will enjoy many of them as much as I will.
Of course it’s up to you, however I think your channel is very interesting. Definitely Brisbane is city that is undergoing lots of change, growth and development and there has been a lot of internal migration from the southern states.
I think you would do well in the next few years bringing us the news of how Brisbane is tracking, the various changes in suburbs, the businesses and the schools and what employment industries are developing;
@@BrisbaneChannelhopefully so
Hi Adam it would be a damn shame if you didn't continue with the channel.

@@BrisbaneChannel Great to hear! Your content is excellent :)

@@BrisbaneChannelhope you keep the channel

😎 stay cool bro . merry christmas
Thanks, you too!
it might be that youtube showed it to people who were just not interested in that topic?
Poll would work wonders i think.
@@BrisbaneChannel well, i always do them
2:00 Sure they can find it online ....the information may not be true so multiple sources help.
7:00 Sadly you have to be "big" before anyone sort of gives you attention which is messed up because how else do you grow? its classic "30 years of experience needed but cant work here to get experience:"
Recommendation: Ultimately, do what you really want to do.
@@FlyingBeardMan I may just take you up on that. I assume your teaching job is Mon to Fri?
Rebrand the channel if you want rather than getting rid of it because the content you've already produced is still valuable to those interested in Brisbane. Just expand the scope of topics you want to explore instead of focusing on just Brisbane.
So true.
That's pretty much what I'm thinking of doing.
Hi Adam,
I left a very long and detailed comment here, but it has disappeared. TH-cam claims community guidelines were violated. I have written nothing but kind words for you. I hope that comment is coming through eventually.
Best wishes,
Kevin
Yep, I've seen it in my "Held for review" comments section and reinstated it.
Also Google stuff up everything in a way that they own
I too, would like for the channel to cover SEQ rather than just the city - plenty more things to discover than what the city offers.
Honestly, even I forget to do it when I watch other creators' videos!
Wow, those are some really solid questions to ask him. 👌👌
In saying that, it has been a while since my last 🤣
🙂@@martybeyer
@@martybeyer same here, I only just make videos that I enjoyed, regardless of views
Boom!
@@BrisbaneChannel well, I feel like that you should, and I definitely will participate the best that I can be able to
If it's under 8 minutes, I don't watch a video unless it's a specific topic I'm searching for. If you make videos over 8 minutes and under 25 minutes, I'll watch
That's interesting. Why is that?
@@BrisbaneChannel It's to fit my work breaks.
You have a good presenting voice so you're easy to listen to, almost any topic is fine
Bro
Make your video first let people watch and then decide :)
I think it's more like make three or four and then see.
Talk about the corruption in Queensland government. Oh! That’s right you can’t. Censorship
I have made a video on that very subject and I plan to make more....
I could if I wanted to - this channel is not subject to that kind of censorship. But I'm not really keen to make this a political thing, I'd rather create something people can enjoy no matter what side of the fence they sit on.
When was the last time you got drunk/high?! Sounds like you need a break from yourself and discover your inner captain insane-o. lol....
To be honest, I would love to escape everything for a while. Would definitely do some good...
