    If you're interested in street photography, you may like this video where I interviewed three other Brisbane-based street photographers: th-cam.com/video/4FY5M06pb4E/w-d-xo.html . Or this one about finding inspiration when you're in a rut: th-cam.com/video/JypthoqP6eQ/w-d-xo.html. Let me know what else you'd like to see on this channel, and I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially if you're one of my amazing subscribers!

    the motion blur idea was a great way around the harsh, contrasty look the flash creates - great idea!

    I love the brisbane reviews of interesting things! like restruants and wierd things that are unique to brissy!

      Cheers. I'll definitely be keeping some Brissy stuff in here. For sure. Although I think I've made things hard for myself by having such diverse topics (Brisbane vs Documentary Photography vs Street Photography). But I'll do my best! I'm planning to visit Moorooka soon where I can get a lot of different kinds of content - try some African restaurants, photograph the people there and find out their stories. So I think I just need to find different angles for each thing I do here.
      Be sure to keep me up to date with what you like and what you don't as the channel continues!

    Hi Adam! I’m a Brisbane resident interested in street photog too. In this vid especially the style u chose meant not only that you had to be right up close, but also couldn’t be discrete bc of the flash. I’d love to hear about how u manage interactions w/ the people u photograph, making sure ppl are comfortable with their image being taken etc !

    I think what you're really talking about is that continual process of learning. You wouldn't of had day two if you didn't have day one!
    I think there's a real thrill in learning, growing and developing as a creative. Bravo mate!

      Cheers! I never want to be one of those people that pretend they know everything already, thinking it will make them look like less of a professional if they don't. We should all be continually learning. It's arrogant to think you've ever reached a point where you can't learn something new!

    Wow! I love this video. Over the last week I've been trying longer exposure off camera flash for street photography technique. I used an ND8. Did you use an ND to be able to achieve the longer exposures in daylight? Well done on your great production values and informative video.

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you enjoyed the video. I don't have any ND filters for my Xpro-2, so I just used the lowest ISO I could and an aperture that allowed for slower exposures while letting the flash register enough for a good exposure. It's all a bit of a balancing act, as adding an ND filter will also reduce the amount of light from the flash that lands on the sensor.
      Have you posted the results from your experimentation online anywhere? I'd love to take a look.

    i don think these are bad photos but personally I find it much more interesting with multiple subjects in the frame rather than just one person.

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Often that's the case, but that certainly adds extra challenge when using flash, as the fall off will mean that unless the subjects are equally distant from the flash, they will be illuminated to different degrees. It's not impossible, but considering this was the first time for me to try using flash in street, I think it's beyond what I would be ready for until getting more of a feel for the approach.

    • @fatturnip779
      @fatturnip779 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrisbaneChannel I do it all the time and it's actually not as hard as you might think. Not in my opinion anyway, just gotta find the right area where people congregate a bit :) But you're right about the differnt illumination but I think that is part of what makes it look interesting sometimes.

    I like most of your photos here. The more shaky background the better to me. I suppose, around 1/15 sec shutter speed, rear curtain sync.

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers. Rear curtain sync, yes, but I prefer a little slower, around 1/8 to 1/6 sec for that little bit more motion blur.

    How to deal with agro subjects after the shot?

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most don't even notice the photo's been taken, but if they do seem annoyed, I just tell them what I'm doing and proactively offer to delete the photo if they don't want to be in one. Talking calmly, confidently and in a friendly manner goes a long way.
      There's too many street photographers that are more focused on what their legal rights are and don't give enough consideration to the wishes of others. While it may be painful sometimes to lose a good image, I'd rather do that than disregard someone else's desire not to be in a photo.

    Love Brissy contents. IMO, the street photos need to either capture a meaningful moment or project a meaningful concept in photographer's mind, best still, blend of both. The busier a city gets, more opportunities it presents for street photography. I found Brisbane CBD challenging on nights and weekends lack of activities.

    • @BrisbaneChannel
      @BrisbaneChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that's one reason I think Sydney or Melbourne are easier to do street photography in when it comes to Australian cities. I always find Brisbane challenging. But I think it's also because I don't completely connect with the "vibe" of the place.
