If FSD doesn’t know what an excavator is or has trouble distinguishing a minivan from a sedan at that short of a distance, then it probably didn’t read and comprehend the English language on that sign before it reached the excavator which explains why it reverted back to the path of the closed road.

It simply doesn't have an excavator model available in it's display, the computer sees things as they are, that display is being created AFTER the images the computer sees are processed, the display is for YOU, not for the car's processing.

A flagger isn’t necessary in this type of situation, road closed “except for local traffic” means the road is still traversable, but there’s too much construction going on for it to bear the brunt of all the vehicles that usually take the road. Usually just means driving on a bumpy dirt path for a while till you get to your house/business, or having to squeeze by the construction crew in this case. He probably should’ve disengaged anyways cause it’s the law, but It’s not like he was putting himself or anyone else in danger.

As the car begin to turn left the sign was still visible and its perspective of where the sign was pointing changes to the open 'Closed road' , like as it was pointing to the open road. We can also see there was ample space.
Man, I would've stopped to thank those guys for not flipping their lid and explained what was going on. From experience, construction workers hate it when people try to push around them especially when they have detour signs posted to prevent traffic from being around them. I do understand that these systems have to be tested and sometimes that puts it into uncomfortable and inconsiderate situations but that data is necessary to prevent it from happening again.

Its very difficult to test every single scenario in a lab. Field tests are necessary for this exact reason. The AI can now be corrected and improved.
