I felt the same way Congressman John Lewis did when I found out that my great grandfather registered to vote, although he was not allowed to vote, but yet he made his way and registered. This happened a year after they were freed from slavery. My heart felt so overwhelmed. The courage he showed in making that step to make his voice heard. All he need to know is, that his great granddaughter is voting for him.

Thus should be required viewing for Students in both High School and College. Slowly but surely, it would help to lift the Veil of Institutionalized Ignorance that has been perpetrated by Generations of Ancestors who grew up with Messed-Up, Racist Attitudes towards Others who are not like Them. Ironically, if certain Racist Folk were to have Their DNA mapped out, They would be quite surprised as to what other Group(s) of People would start showing up in Their Family Tree!

Oh John Lewis...he was just really something special. Those tears are so bittersweet. History isn't always kind and humane, but somehow just having his ancestors reach out from the past and say, we got to vote. We got our say too and that matters so greatly. It really is in his bloodline. It's amazing this show. So much respect and love to people who just genuinely care about family. That's the good Lord's gift. God is great.

It is always impressive to see that we are deeply moved by the stories of our ancestors, even if we have never met them. I think it has to do with the fact that we somehow feel our familyconnection, we feel that we are part of a chain of generations. I live in the Netherlands and I have done some familyresearch myself for about 15 years now. I have gone back 11 generations up to the year 1592, when my first known ancestor was born. I have collected a lot of information, photographs of later generations and personal stories of my ancestors. Every time I meet people from my family and tell them stories, they are always very much interested and sometimes emotional. These emotions are real, as congressman Lewis did show. I understand that he was in the civil rights movement in the sixties together with Martin Luther King. Here in the Netherlands we deeply respect dr. King and a lot of elder Dutchmen remember his famous speech back in '63..."free at last, free at last....thank God almighty...we are free at last!!"
