The absolute best version of this song - my grandfather who passed away at 96 used to get a tear in his eye every Christmas when he heard this version, saying it was like hearing God himself sing it....

This is the most beautiful hymn in Christendom for the birth of Christ. Sung by Luciano Pavarotti, Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, and Les Disciples de Massenet this must have been a great performance for the ears of Christians who listened to it. To me it resembles a heavenly music welcoming the Saviour to earth.

He truly was magnificent. No other word does him justice.
His volume and power are arresting, but his softer, subtler, almost playful notes are just as mesmerizing. His voice is truly a rare thing. Unlike any other.
Seeing him while singing is astonishing. He makes it look so easy. The music is just pouring out of him. Fantastic!
Thanks for your very kind words of appreciation for the "big" Luciano as we have named Pavarotti in the past. I think there are still tenors whose sing to perfection, but in my mind he is quite inimitabile. Greetings from Italy and happy new Year!
Brings me back to when I was an 8 year old Altar boy in 1959 at Midnight Mass (when it was in Latin and I cried when this was sung by the choir - my Mom always remembered that)

This is my favourite recording of this old Christmas carol. My late grandmother absolutely adored Pavarotti's talent. They both passed the same week. My grandmother passed September 1,2007 and he passed September 6, 2007

The world lost an incredible talent.
Probably the best rendition ever recorded. When I first went to Notre Dame du Montreal in September of 2017, it was 39 years to the date of this concert. I was pretty emotional, due to having watched this incredible concert for my entire life on VHS.
