      Cristina I believe so! If you have cool undertones, you have more bluish/pinkish tones in your skin and with warm you have more yellow/green tones. But I also wasn’t sure if she was talking about counteracting some of those colors...

    • @maureenbouey
      @maureenbouey 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I was confused about that too - thought it was opposite.

    • @carbar1013
      @carbar1013 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Cristina & Stephanie! She was actually right! I thought the opposite (the way you were just explaining as well) but recently learned it wasn’t the case! If you think about the color wheel it makes more sense. It’s not blue/pink for cool- it’s actually more pink/red and that’s why that’s the warmer color. The yellow is more close with green (think olive undertones) and that’s what truly makes it cool. It’s hard to find true olive toned foundation. When I get tan that’s what I am and I was always thinking well I’m warm- the colors looked all wrong on me. So think of the color wheel and it makes much more sense. Pink/Red=Warm and
      Yellow/Green=Cool

    If your skin is flaking some when you apply foundation, using a sponge and use patting, or bouncing, not rubbing actions, is best in applying the foundation to the skin. This will allow you to keep from bringing up more and more flakes. This technique has helped me tremendously when I’m using Retinol or Retin-A, which causes skin flaking. I clean my face gently, then moisturize well to minimize the flaking. Then if you use a pouncing action to apply your foundation, you can get beautiful coverage without flaking. Just do not rub the skin, either with a brush or your fingers, because that’s when the skin will flake.

    • @wavyjenny602
      @wavyjenny602 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Fantastic tip, this works for me too! I tend to get flaky skin when something has irritated it or when the seasons change (e.g. now) and bouncing/tapping techniques make a big difference! I also discovered that some serums pill on the skin when rubbed (or buffed with a makeup brush), so what I thought was flaky skin was actually my skincare lifting off! This happened to me with The Ordinary Buffet, amongst other things, so I tried using less, tapping it into the skin instead of rubbing, and eventually moved it to nighttime skin care and used something else in the day under makeup. It’s a great serum, but I can’t wear it under makeup ☹️

    Hi everyone as a mature lady I have switched to a luminous primer and started to mix my serum with my foundation, then I switched to a foundation especially for a more mature skin however I still put a serum mixed with serum before primer then my foundation , yes I am lucky to have found which suits my skin and it will last well over eight hours, but I have played with moisture cream and primers to find what works for me, I use all Estée Lauder , I hope this may help others , regards to all liz.

      I use doublwear, or double wear light in summer. I have combination skin and always use the EL matte primer underneath but at 58 I'm beginning to feel my skin looks a bit dull from the foundation being reasonably heavy and matte and as a consequence I'm feeling a bit sad about how I look when makeup is all done. I love skincare and makeup so quite happy to spend time every morning getting it right. Would you mind giving details of the products you use as I would love to have my skin looking a little more illuminated and think this is the slightly more youthful appearance I would love to have x

      More mature skin can sometimes benefit from using a light face oil on top of moisturizer (but before foundation) which adds luminosity and a nice amount of “slip” for your foundation to be buffed in with. It keeps it looking very natural too.

    The worst (for foundation matching) is having Olive undertones. Most people think olive is warmed undertones but that is completely wrong. Olive is actually cool toned, I usually use a neutral or slightly yellow undertone to counteract the excessive greenish-grayish cast. But it is the pits to find a good match.

    • @jenns.4187
      @jenns.4187 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      So true!! And the folks at makeup counters give me the side-eye when I try to explain that I think I'm olive as "yellow" is too warm and "pink" makes me look sunburnt. Have you found anything you think works? I'm fair - probably around an NC10 or a light lighter. I love your post!

    • @tedoymisojos
      @tedoymisojos 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Neutral warm colors work. As in Beige tones than lean yellow, intead of pink, peach or orange. My skin is olive toned, and I look sallow as in, I look yellow green. Trying to correct the green-ness with an orange foudnation doesnt work because then it doesnt match the body. Instead rely on bronzer and blush to help with that.

    • @gbosonnet
      @gbosonnet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      I hear you. I have a pure green undertone. Any time I look for info on olive skin make up - information on tanned complexions appears. Olive is not a skin colour, it is a skin undertone 😓 I have tried one foundation called koh gen do in shade 213 which is the perfect green undertone but colour is too light for me.

    • @janellehall2501

      Try the Cover FX G+ shades, they are made for true olive undertones 😊👍🏼

    • @di3486
      @di3486 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you all! I haven’t found the perfect one yet. I went to sephora to get matched and they say I am a 1Y08 which means I am a true neutral in a medium skin tone, not quite tan but close, but as usual, I tell makeup people, the issue is the green/gray tint in my skin. I agree with the comments that neutral or slight yellow undertone is probably the best bet, then I put other products on top that gave life back to the skin (blush, bronzer etc). I will check Cover FX :)

    • @NYandAZ
      @NYandAZ 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Haley I agree! I refuse to call at home content creators a “guru”. To me, that’s a completely unacceptable term for those people. They may think they’re a guru, but most have very little knowledge of how to apply makeup properly and almost all have never applied it on anyone else’s skin. How can you be a makeup guru if you’ve only applied products to yourself?? Nope. Can’t happen. *No more calling them gurus!*
      “Influencer” is even a stretch. LOL!! Most of the time, I don’t even believe them due to their lies or non disclosure (..etc) so they’re certainly not influencing me, that’s for darn sure. 🙅🏼‍♀️🤨🤷🏼‍♀️

    One really good suggestion I heard was that when getting your foundation colour-matched, ask the makeup artist to use whatever application method you would usually use at home - so if you apply with a sponge, ask them to use a sponge etc. There's no point in the makeup artist applying it beautifully with a brush if you then go home and apply it with a sponge, because it will look different! It was such a lightbulb moment for me, and so obvious when you think about it, but I'd been buying foundation for 20+ years without considering what a difference the application method makes.

    I would also recommend for people who feel like their foundation looks flakey even after exfoliating, try using a wet beauty sponge instead of a buffing brush. Brushes tend to micro exfoliate. I remember struggling with this when I was younger in the area between my eyebrows or my nose. I hope this helps.

    • @wavyjenny602
      @wavyjenny602 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jennifer Mendoza great tip, thanks! I also found that some of my serums pilled, which made it look as if my skin was flaky when I put foundation on, but it was actually just the serums (especially TO Buffet) so I experimented with using less, and tapping my serums and skincare in, which also helped. Or changing serums also helps 🤣

    I love watching you teach. You gave some great advice. I'm looking forward to more :) One piece of advice that you didn't mention is to use water-based primers with water-based foundations and silicone-based primer with silicone-based foundations. Ever since I've been doing that, my makeup has lasted longer and looks better. The only time I don't follow that is when I'm using a powder foundation, like MAC Studio Fix. I have dry skin and I use the Becca Backlight Primer Filter Face Primer before I use it. It gives a nice glow under the powder foundation.

      Djamila Z you'd have to moisturize well. my skin is normal/combo but some days l use facial oil on top of my go to lightweight moisturizer. I am a fan of jojoba oil because it's not greasy. I always use it under eye makeup because dry skin there exacerbates the fine lines. A light dusting of powderyl over foundation/concealer is a result that is not dry, cakey or crepe-y. Also jojoba is not so rich that it causes milia. I love this stuff!

      I have the same problem. A mac artist told me to start above and outwards ftom the worst of the red patches which are on the apples of my cheeks. If your redness is in a similar pattern that may help. She uses two colours on me, one was a sort of dusty, beigey plummy pink and then the other was peachy and the used the peachy colour higher on my cheekbones. Other things that have worked for me include using a pinky toned foundation on my cheeks and my usual colour everywhere else, blending the edges well, and then skipping blush. Also use a green corrector with your foundation (i csn use quite a bit and get it everywhere cos my undertone is olive, you may need to be more careful if you have a different undertone) and wait for it to completely set, then use the lightest of hands with a type of brush that deposits very little product and i usually do either just up on the cheekbones, OR slap it everywhere lightly all over my cheeks, completely the opposite but it looks very natural, and i usually use two colours but swirl them together on my brush (i use a duo compact usually with a peach and a beigey rose and it kind of works out neutral and natural.)

      @@gillianwills9049 although i don't disagree that you should go to the dr if you have rosacea, unfortunately it's not easily treatable for a large portion of sufferers.

      @@ramblerjam I have rosacea and I saw a dermatologist for it a year and a half ago. He put me in Aprillon and recommended laser treatments, which I am doing. The difference it astounding in my skin today. I can leave the house without foundation and feel confident with my appearance.

    I use a luminous primer and then a pore filling primer around my nose. Something like porefessonal helps keep my foundation from settling into pores and it makes a dramatic difference! I have dry skin but moisturizing foundation doesn't last through my 12 hour day so I use a serum based foundation mixed with a demimatte foundation and it's beautiful (keeps my skin hydrated, wears well, and doesn't make areas look dry at the end of the day). Hope that helps anyone with combo/dry skin with large pores.

    In terms of the fine hairs, I have them too. I usually use a setting spray and press it into the skin gently with a beauty blender. Takes care of that.
    I love MAC products but with aging, dry skin, I can't use the powders anymore. I really miss the stick foundations from MAC. They were perfection!
    This was a really great video. I LOVE the education part of it. A lot of the beauty community just puts it on for the look. There is only one other beauty person I watch that is like you. She's Erika Approved. So knowledgeable, like you!
