I've never heard of Daphne, i must look that up today. And i love Suor Angelica - and Die Frau! They, in one season, are doing the operas that an American opera company would take 5 or more years to put on.
Daphne is quite wonderful --- at least the final scene, which is what I know best. th-cam.com/video/zvWGKnpqRX0/w-d-xo.html Strauss at his best modern romantic. The other great last scene in similar vein is that of Capriccio. Both operas end with an extended lush symphonic sequence, based on earlier themes.
I visited currently „Die Frau ohne Schatten“ and the Song recital from Netrebko. And this weekend I will see „Otello“ and „Manon Lescaut“. In March, I am thinking of going to „Parsifal“ with Garanca 😊
Indeed. Just returned yesterday from there seeing operas at the StaatsOper. The Met can not match them in my opinion. Plus Vienna is safe and clean. NYC is now a 3rd world country.
Just now returning from a week in Vienna where I saw 4 operas here last week. The Met should learn from Vienna StaatsOper how to please their audience and perform a full season or crowd pleasing operas.
Sadly I have to agree with you, it is a shame in what the, so called "Genius" producer and stage directors of now a days , have converted the sublime art of Opera - in some cases in an truely " grotesque" spectacolo.
I have to go and live in Vienna for a year just for the operas.
It's amazing that they have so many operas, and so much variety. That's impressive.
I think I'll move to Vienna!
Thank you for another fabulous overview video!
Wow, amazing. I wonder how they do it all! Thanks.
They get government money. You can do a lot when your bankrolled by the government. American theaters have to raise their money.
Phantastischer Spielplan ! Danke !
Thanks!
Bellissima stagione
Excepcional!!!!
Thank you from Moscow.

My GOD, it’s like the entire operatic canon in one season. What’s left for next year?!
I’ll be there In March 2024 for 4 operas. I no longer go to the Met. Vienna is my favorite city in the world.
I visited currently „Die Frau ohne Schatten“ and the Song recital from Netrebko. And this weekend I will see „Otello“ and „Manon Lescaut“. In March, I am thinking of going to „Parsifal“ with Garanca 😊
@@AlexanderJuliusLeventov Wonderful! So excited 4U, I was in Bayreuth this summer and saw the new Parsifal. Enjoy Vienna, I’ll be there in 5 months.
Very glad to see La Fanciulla del West !
Amei.
Ma per carità
OMG. This puts the Met so shame. Viennese are so fortunate!
There is nothing shameful about the Mets season. The Met has to raise their budget. Vienna is bankrolled by the government.
No. The Met doesn’t have to be ashamed of anything.
And this is just one of their three opera houses

The are government subsidized.

Aargh so jealous of the Viennese. The Met could take notes
The Met does very well on its own. The Met has to raise their money. Vienna is bankrolled by the government.
No need
Unglaublich!

WHO is singing Adele in the Fledermaus???
Adele: Regula Mühlemann 💕
Esperava o Sesquicentenario da Opera Salvador Rosa de Carlos Gomes.
One thing about "Manon Lescaut": the last act is set in 'a barren desert wasteland in Louisiana'. There are no deserts in Louisiana!!
Just a question regarding 'the tempi' of these excerpts! Are they representative of the performance tempi? Most are absurdly and distressingly fast!!
does "animal farm" use intentionally a recorded loop or did they have to make this presentation with a total of 4 seconds of sound??
Wow in Viena is budget lot of budget
They do 30-40 operas per season. How many of those are 21st century works from living composers?
Just now returning from a week in Vienna where I saw 4 operas here last week. The Met should learn from Vienna StaatsOper how to please their audience and perform a full season or crowd pleasing operas.
The Met does not play second fiddle to anyone.
That Otello better get filmed
There will be a translation of it today on ORF: tv.orf.at/program/orf3/erlebnisbu2068.html

Cambiate i registi.
