    I’m an eye doctor and I do nearly the same thing she does. OMAD almost every day but not weekends. After years of doing this my body finds it totally natural. And…I’ve never looked better, even at 50. I’d recommend to all but find your body’s best way.

    Have been incorporating some degree of fasting for decades. Being 62, I'm now predominately #Carnivore HighP:LowE, doing a combination of 20:4, OMAD (23:1) and 47:1. When social, a giant salad topped with meat is ideal. I wake up before the sun, and retire shortly after the sun goes down.

    I talked to vegetarians with alot of health problems. First, dont worry if you do it for a few months. Generally, nothing bad will happen. Problems start with certain people who are strict and do it for 5+ years. Especially, if you dont supplement B12.
    The only thing I adviced them was trying a little can of sardines 2-3 times/week. Being pescatarian for a month transformed them. Everything got healed, their skin was glowing and they gained muscle.

    Interesting. I've been doing one meal a day, every single days for many years now. I can eat 4000kcals in one sitting NO PROBLEM. I love to eat. It always makes me laugh when I hear that people are concerned with eating enough haha. When I need to eat less, I just stop eating for a couple of days. Said otherwise, it's all about getting used to it. If you have a small digestive strength so to speak, yeah you need to split the meals. But it's not a general rule. Oh and of course I eat super late at night as I live in Europe. And I sleep like a baby after that. That's actually why I prefer eating late at night; because I feel sleepy after eating. So it's nice for the dinner to happen at night. So yeah whatever works.

    Fwiw, vegans I know are doing it for ethical, not health, reasons. So, it is more akin to a religion for them. I was a vegetarian for most of my life, but now eat fish direct from Sitka, Alaska - where they are flash frozen until reaching my refrigerator. While eating window has largely been compressed in recent decades, accidentally for most part, it is always at night for lots of reasons. For starters, I am usually hungry only at night. But I know it’d be much better earlier.

    OMAD is so simple. I’ve been eating once a day since 2018. I feel sluggish if I eat more than once. Randomly, I’ll take a day off eating because of OMAD - it replicates, I think, how humans were in the past. I also eat seasonal, like I only eat fruit seasonally, but eat meat/fish/dairy all year, as that was available all year.

I went back to my eating window extending up until I get ready for bed, and I sleep much more effectively and feel more rested when I get up and don't need to sleep as long, it seems. Might be more of an issue if you are aiming for a calorie deficit, being too hungry while sleeping could mess up sleep.

    Here's a question that doesn't get asked much: doesn't OMAD throw off your pooping game? Currently, with two meals a day, I poop like a MACHINE. Same time, within 30 minutes, every single morning. On days that I only eat dinner though, my next day's "evacuation" is significantly delayed to late late morning or even early afternoon. Not trying to be the guy trying to unload at 11 oclock in a public bathroom. Regarding Deanna's comment about eating earlier, is arguably better overall than later in the day. However, on those occasions when I do eat late, which sometimes happens during family events and holidays, I often sleep better after going to bed on a full tummy than I do during my OMAD days when my feeding period is during late morning/early afternoon. I would have expected the opposite. In that regard, what I have found having spoken with others who also fast on a regular basis is that fasting modalities vary (sometimes a lot) from one individual to another and not one size fits all.
    Also, as Deanna alluded to and is so true, we each have to experiment and see what works best for us whether it's OMAD, twice a day feeding with small windows in between, alternate day fasting or perhaps just fasting for 3 days at the beginning of every month. I like to mix it up with different fasting methods from time to time so that my body is stressed in a positive manner and doesn't end up adapting to a particular pattern of fasting behavior that may lead to diminishing returns over time.

    • @deannamutzeldc6314
      @deannamutzeldc6314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love this- I agree with you. I, too, sleep better eating later (my ideal sweet spot on OMAD days is 6 pm- 8 pm)- I usually begin with eating the foods that are tougher to digest, and finish off with the easier digesting foods (steamed vegg.. mushrooms, Kraut’s..) . This is why I choose a longer OMAD window- 2, sometimes 3 hours - not eating the whole time. I eat a large plate slowly , mindfully, then wait 30 minutes - 60 minutes- and eat again if I feel I need more. No tracking. Pure intuition.

    This might be a little off the cuff but Alex from Alphadestiny just got to an extremely low bodyfat % for physique purposes and said that at a sub 10% bodyfat, fasting became unsustainable because of energy level stability. What would you say to someone like this? Are there any fixes when someone doesn't have the bodyfat stores to rely on for energy?

    • @deannamutzeldc6314
      @deannamutzeldc6314 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with him. Open the feeding window if this happens or eat a lot more fat (fatty meat). The body innately will rebel if bf gets too low.

  • @perrysebastian6928
    @perrysebastian6928 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you for the discussion on non-daily compressed feeding patterns. I insert two 36-hr non-feeding windows into my week, which in my mind is super important for older adults. This requires some extra attention to the details of eating (intake tracking). I really only watch the protein intake and try to average 11-12 grams of protein per week per lb body weight. My fat intake (g) per week trends about 25% higher than protein. I am active so on a day-basis, some days show a huge energy intake (6k+ calories), but the weekly average energy intake is roughly 3k calories per day

    I really appreciate this and all of the content you share, love it! Deanna, I have a similar job and hours. Is your OMAD typically after work? Or sometime mid day?
    I usually run 45- 90 min before work ( non negotiable 😁) I get hungry 12:30 or 1..- I’ll have a pea protein smoothie with eggs from my chickens sometimes before clients so I don’t get hungry when I’m treating patients…when I get home I’m usually hungry but it feels too late , sometimes I’ll do 30-40 minutes of weights after work too, then it definitely feels too late to eat. I usually do anyway, but that definitely interrupts my goals for a 16 hour fasting window that lines up with my schedule. It feels a little like a merry go round and I’m having a hard time tweaking it to a better pattern. Anyway just curious about your busy day eating times! Thanks!!!

    When I first started IF 4 months ago I lost 2 lbs a week. Even though I eat high nutritious foods and a lot during eating window, 18/6 daily. But after awhile my weight became stable. Totally make sense to move dinner time earlier during cold weather. Bears don't eat during winter. Very important to eat last meal at 5 the latest and finish up before 6.
    Working in office I barely seen anyone walking. Break time, lunch time people just sit in cubicle, gossiping or eating mc donald. That's the choice to live healthy or destroying life.

    This is off subject but curious if u guys know anything about keto in children helping depression. I know OMAD and keto has helped my depression so I was wondering if u knew if this would be the case with kids . Covid has made my 13 year old overweight and depressed and I’m totally at a loss for what to do. I have her on medicine because it’s gotten dangerous at times. I’m about to force keto on her?

      Hi Lori - many kids I’ve known for years have put on weight during Covid. Lack of exercise, depression from isolation , emotional eating (or just bored of isolation)- so many reasons.
      What I suggest to the parents- don’t buy processed food. Time for tough love. The kids will yell and scream “give me back my chips”- but don’t. Try to reduce screen time, get them out exercising (walking as a family)- not necessarily keto, but very low sugar and limit the processed foods. That should help. Screen time is a big factor for depression- and isolation (especially the extroverted kids).

    OMAD and KETO for 3 months. Amazing, fast body transformation, joint pain gone. But, my blood pressure is remaining stubbornly high. Doc and i think too much salt. I add very little salt to food. Have been adding 1/8 tsp. Sea salt to 4 of my 8 cups of daily water as many have recommended to keep electrolytes balanced.

    I've heard a little anecdote about the body having three main systems: digestive, muscular, and mental. The idea was that if you're using one, the other two have blood diverted away from them, so their performance is diminished. So, while you're digesting food, your muscles aren't performing at peak, and neither is your mental system. And if you're engaging in rigorous exercise, you're not going to be thinking at peak levels, nor digesting very well.

      @@DrAJ_LatinAmerica I was just about to say something similar. My take being not as black and white as stated.
      For example, don't confuse energy being committed to specific organs as opposed to others with being diverted from entire systems.
      For example, energy being partially diverted from the brain to the GI tract isn't the same as from the entire nervous ("mental") system.

      @@beedebawng2556 right. Not black and white. It is a spectrum. Otherwise what would fighter jet pilots do ? They have to use muscles and mind at the same time. They have to eat prior to long flights. How about 24 hours of Le mans drivers? Tour de France riders? So many examples where muscle, mind and digestion must work together.
