This is not the whole story. Magondu died at the behest of the Gachanjas, reason being that he played them. At the initial trial, it emerged he was the front used by the Gachanjas to swindle public property. That is how he moved from being a school headmaster cum small time land agent to being a relatively big time land agent. His greed made him rusha his benefactors, and Gachanja's wife vowed to get back at him. This she did behind the husband's back, and she got Magondu good.
Lastly, not all were condemned to death. Ann Ngonyo got pregnant towards the end of the trial, and had a week's old baby at sentencing. She got life in prison.
Magondu in this story comes out smelling of roses. In reality those who knew him describe an arrogant and overly ambitious man who stepped on too many toes to have his way. In the end he paid the ultimate price for his misplaced ambitions. Clearly his family continues to pay that price. It is like he didn't teach them how to make money.
Regardless of his misdeeds, whatever they did to him was wrong. The system rubbed further salt on his family's wound by releasing the main perpetrator after 10 years on spurious grounds. Someone said here the 1 M was not for buying mandazi, and it is true. For context, this was in the year 2000, and 1 Usd was about KES 65, and a litr le of Supa petrol was KES 55.

The land commissioner and his wife should be returned in prison.All these killers!!!i believe all of you guys saw their faces,i used to visit a friend who had pharmacy and hardware in river road,this was back in 1993-1994,when one day i saw them snatching a man on the street in the morning,and the women who is beside them always operates with the commissioner wife in NJOGU INNI BAR,by then i don't think that the husband was a land commissioner,they would pretend drinking with a man then later on will put some tablets to drug the person,then steal everything they.
There meeting place was in MIWAGI FISH and CHIPS,hapo ndiyo walikuwa wanapanga plans zao,who to snatch today,tomorrow,since the area is a busy business street,the people that brings in medication to their customers with pharmacy,unapata amelipwa pesa tu saa hiyo then they will follow the person and snatch,and in some cases even knife the person if you try to resist.
Sometimes the hardware owners were followed by car of unknown people to their homes and snatched,one of them try to chase me in the day time to snatch me,but i managed to run very fast and enter a near buy butchery where i was sent to go and ask the guy to prepare some food for us,The butcher man near me bcos sometimes they bought the medication where i worked,as hee grabbed man shirt and slapped him,warned him not to try again,
There is a LODGE in river road called KIRETI LODGE?that's the place where they go to sleep,if they have those land business,kama wanaenda kunyan'ganya mtu,hapo ndiyo base yao.They should remain in jail the rest of their lives for killing Mr LAWRENCE MAGONDU.
How comes that the wife of the commission was released after she appealled?and she is the one who financed the killers?This what we call CORRUPTION.

I followed up this case when it was on the newspaper sometimes back, and learned this Elizabeth gachanja had killed several people before and got away with it, they forgot God is watching.

It's absolutely true, kikuyus absolutely love money. I went to Kenya last summer to stay with some good family friends and I was taken advantage of so heavily by them. I'm actually not Indian, my mother is American and I was born and raised in America. I went because I have always had a great interest in East African/Swahili culture. also, I do understand why you may have the attitudes about Indians in Africa. Because they do have a lean heavily look down upon Africans. They're very arrogant and stuck up a materialistic. They go to Africa and treat it like an ATM machine. All they do is try to make money off of the people. I hated most of the Indians I met in Kenya seriously! They were horrible the way I saw them treat people because of their attitudes. The group of people I love the most in Kenya were the Somalis. They were very kind, welcoming and honest people. Eastligh was a great place. Why do you hate to see Indians in Africa so much?
