    Can you explain why the sensors become unusable over time? Somehow "saturated"? Does the oxygen process deplete the electrolyte?

      Good afternoon - thank you for making contact with DD-Scientific and for your question.
      The chemical reaction within a lead based Oxygen sensor results in the lead being converted to Lead Oxide.
      Once all the Lead has been converted into Lead Oxide, e.g. there are no more active sites within the sensor, the output will reduce and eventually cease.
      However, lead free Oxygen sensors have a completely different configuration e.g. they are reactive to the target gas and with no materials being consumed, lifetime is in excess of 5 years
