The heaven's open with a bang crash thud, and Emily's soaked and covered in mud. Bunny's making a nice loaf of bread, but Emily's tired and just wants her bed. Give the bread a spray with water before you put it in the oven. The steam generated will help with it rising and give you a crust.

For 22 years I have always caught rain water on the deck of my offshore yacht. You have so much rain in the UK You have given me so many memories, spent many a time on Grand Union, days when working boat were working. ❤

Another fab episode guys. I spend most of our time now watching you and other narrowboaters on youtube rather than normal TV. I was at Crick on the Sunday and watched your last video back in the hotel room but my daughter was so angry with me because you were both at Crick on the Saturday, she really wanted to meet you both as she loves watching your journey. She also listens to Benny's music on her way to school each day. Superfan. Have a great week.
As a single mom when my son was younger I had that same washing machine. I simply couldn't afford a full size machine or the laundrette. I did all of our washing for 2 years with it ( except for blankets). It's a lot of work but very handy and economical. Glad you can save money with one as well!

Alan is just so cute. We just lost our Tortoise baby girl, she was 14 yrs old and had a heart attack right on our bed. So for now we will watch Allans adventures.

We have had toooo many storms here in France but it doesn’t make the air fresh the next day.

We had a spate of boats being broken into at our boat club so now most of us have cameras on our boats and 'Smile, you're on CCTV' stickers on the side. So far, fingers crossed, we haven't had any further problems. It's a shame we have to do things like this but, for £30, its a bit of peace of mind with the added benefit that you can get any interlopers on film. The Police generally have an idea who's doing it but need evidence.

Dear Alan … yes the birds are massive down there .. wonderful Red Kites were re-introduced into the Chiltern Hills in the late 1980’s and successfully have flourished and spread right across Buckinghamshire and into nearby Oxfordshire & right up to Oxford and beyond!

I need a retired gent who lives on a narrow boat, so peaceful for reading and painting.....
My bread making journey took me from no knead recipes to Bertinet's technique and I love doing it, keep trying different ways, it's so satisfying. I'm trying Indian bread recipes now, for camping as you can cook it in a pan. Love the Alan footage and the ducks with ducklings. 😊

Unfortunately I think its just a bit of a dodgy area. Since then we've heard quite a few stories about boats beong broken into right there. Nothing was taken from the couple I spoke to, it seems its just kids kicking in windows for the "fun" of it 😞 It seems very rare luckily, most places we go are safe. Just a bad spot! (This is random ramblings as the video progresses) EP 50 but it feels like I've been watching you guys for years now. Emily you have the most lovely eyes, sorry Benny I had to say it her eyes just really catch your attention. Our cat Charlie (female) gives my wife a dirty look every time she does the Awwweee thing when Allen comes on the screen. Be safe guys!

Instead of a Dutch oven try using a baking bag for the final rise and cooking. Put the dough in the bag on top of the paddle. When it’s risen slide it into the oven and cook for 25 mins in the bag. Remove the bag then finish cooking at a slightly lower temp. It has the same effect as a Dutch oven with less chance of deflating the dough.
Will enjoy your journey to visit the Kennet & Avon .. my son lived for approximately 9 months down in Newbury, Berkshire .. his flat was a five minute walk away from the Kennet River/canal .. and a lovely walk into the heart of the town .. so enjoy the journey down

Hey guys, we’ve just been introduced to the Lekue silicone bread baker from Amazon. Just making our first loaf in it and it certainly saves on space and separate bowls and tins. Might be a thought for Benny.
Hi Emily & Ben--Your polenta loaf looked delicious! Did you make beans on toast or peanut butter with bananas? I made myself peanut butter with raspberries squished on top for my lunch. The dark skies and thunderstorm with hail was something too. So sorry about the three break-ins in the narrowboats. Lovely to meet you both at Crick - thought I would trade sourdough rising/baking tips with you this week. I do my first rise in a bowl that is every so slightly oiled. Once risen I knock it back and then put it in a second bowl (lots of washing up I know) which is lined with a tea towel which has flour sprinkled on it. I bake mine on a tray so while the oven is heating so is the tray (do you pre-heat your crock pot before adding the dough?). I also have a tray of water in the oven to keep the baking environment humid which goes in when the oven is turned on and stays for the duration. So when it comes to putting the dough in the oven, once the oven is hot I get a piece of baking paper, sprinkle some flour on it, carefully tip the sough dough out of the bowl and peel the tea towel off and then slide the baking paper onto the hot tray and into the oven for 35 minutes. Love the video as always especially Alan cam. JO and Marty
Bowl breadmaking is the least messy , you just need a bigger container. I use a dedicated washing up bowl and flour the dough after first knead.
Alan's stare brought to mind,"Alice's" Cheshire cat.Your dads red hair makes him my kindred spirit Emily.I know it affects one's life coming up.He's given you some polish that's payed off young lady.Your grapevine worked, forwarned is forarmed.Bens common sense won the day once again.

Benny should give a bit one day of making bread from start to finish. As an aspiring bread maker, I'd find it incredibly interesting and entertaining. Mainly because he is ALWAYS smiling and has such a great attitude about everything.
