I think that's why the symbol appears as a nod in many Gamecube games, such as: in Super Mario Sunshine the island where Mario and Peach go is shaped like a dolphin. I think the code name gamecube is because it had graphical power to generate quite realistic water landscapes for those years. And almost the majority of Gamecube games took advantage of their graphic power to show water and fluids that were quite realistic or attractive/beautiful.

If there’s one thing I love about this stage , it’s how it demonstrates Sonic’s speed running on the road with a bunny hat. Those were the days.

Kinda funny how 98% of the stages in Melee represent N64 games.
Melee was practically a launch title (few weeks after GC launch), so there really only was N64 material to work from.
