Building a Pallet Playhouse

  • I got my hands on some old pallets, so I thought it would be a sweet idea to build a quick playhouse for the kids to mess around in at the hunting shack. In this video, I walk through the process of planning it and putting it together. All I needed was some pallets, some scrap 2x4s, and a bunch of screws (2.5" and 1 1/2").

      @@FangnclawXD 🤣🤣 I know! Yeah, that would be a great idea. Probably a little landscape cloth under it would help, too. 😁

    Haha this is awesome. I use pallets for everything, furniture inside and outside. Built a really nice toy box for my two girls 2 years ago and an outdoor oversize lounge chair last year. This year it's fort time! Where I live there are so many companies with pallets so it's good picking.

      That's wicked! Yeah, I built an observation post addition to this a couple of years later (separate video I released a little while ago), which the kids love! I built some pallet benches at the shack, but I do need to build a sweet lounge chair next time I'm there, for sure.

    We LOVE this so much! We have a stack of pallets with the ongoing plan to build a “tiny home” play house & even have the longer bottom pallet.
    We’d made a pallet dog house & removed the pallet boards to overlap like wood siding, it was amazing & used scrap tin from a friend’s shed that just had the metal roofing replaced. Since we didn’t need much, our pieces were not damaged. It was so lovely when we painted it to match the house! We’d cut an “attic vent” to place a fan which the doggies LOVED! Never had a problem with it until Hurricane Harvey flooding carried it away 😢 now we have pallets just sitting around.. waiting for the tree fort repairs & to build a new dog house & a play house with a loft & all of my daughters play kitchen stuff & her old toddler bed, her vintage tea-time wicker table & chairs with her adorable rope throw rugs we have been making & customizing with paint & other DIY decorations & crafts! In addition to the stacks of pallets & scrap OSB & plywood, random wooden planks & trim to the house prior to the flood that aren’t warped so we held onto them with these projects in mind that seem inevitably placed on hold as we continue to slowly work on the house. I’m searching for the motivation to surpass my anxieties setting me back from making the full effort to plan a day with the family to work on these together to build some things without screens in our way.. just us and the kids building backyard play structures with recycled materials we continue to accrue through rebuilding the actual house! We’ve considered running some minor plumbing even if it’s rigged with hoses! Lol so the kids can use their “play sink” & if we seal it correctly but also add a bridge from an “attic loft” across to the tree fort, it could prove to be quite the playscape. Swing set & monkey bars (below) between them, connected by a “bridge”. A side “carport” with some power running out there to a couple outlets so they can charge & store the power wheel vehicle but also a porch on it. Deck out the surviving tree fort that made it through that historic flood we survived! It’s been since 2017 & we are still working a little at a time to repair everything & redo my old studio building which is currently storage & to vamp up the tree fort & build a playhouse playscape with flower beds & mini picnic table, their home decorated bird feeders and bird houses, a whole backyard dream play area to make everything more interesting & creative for them. They’re growing up & too much time is passing us by! Thank you for the inspiration! ❤❤❤❤❤

      Wow! This was an emotional rollercoaster. I'm so sorry to hear about the tragedy you have lived through, but it sounds like you are an inspiration to others for your perseverance and desire to come out stronger at the end of all this! I do hope you go ahead with this project, as I agree that it would be so awesome for you and your family. Best of luck! 😁❤️

      Thanks! If you can get your hands on some free pallets in good shape, this is definitely a cost-effective play structure. My little ones absolutely love this one. Good luck with your project! :)

    If you screw a piece of wood horizontally inside the playhouse, in between the horizontal pallet structures, you will have some small shelves for rock collections etc

      Absolutely! I actually did that last year with some extra scrap 2x4s in a few spots, haha. It's a great suggestion. Thanks! 😁

    Use a sawzall and cut the nails on the boards. Just loosen the boards a little and bam..

    • @ThisDadGoesTo11
      @ThisDadGoesTo11  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, my goodness. I hadn't thought of that. As it happens, I'm in the middle of a pallet project right now, and I gave this a whirl. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I'll be doing this from now on. I don't think there is a sawzall at the shack, but I'll be bringing mine with me from now on, as that's where I do most of these projects. Thanks for the hot tip!

      That's what I do. I see these people online using large pry bars to pop the boards off. I've yet to do that without breaking half the damn boards 😂. That southern pine they use is a b! Tch and loves to split.

    • @ThisDadGoesTo11

      @@TRUMP_WAS_RIGHT_ABOUT_EVRYTHNG Haha...yeah, it takes some careful finesse action. I did take Rory's advice as soon as I saw it, as I was part way through another project (pallet planter box, video releasing Aug. 24, 2022). It was certainly a lot quicker and easier! The nails wreaked havoc on my metal blade, but that was expected, especially with the number I cut. Great tip! I'm going to have to take the saw up to the hunting shack next time, as I always seem to find some pallet project to work on. 👍👍

      How did you go about screwing the roof to the walls. Obviously with the 3” screws but where did you run them into the walls at?
