A butter tart is similar to sugar pie, which you also don’t really have. But the butter tart is similar to the filling in a pecan pie, which you definitely have.
Pecan pie is definitely the right comparison for anyone that's never tried one. We also have other tarts, one with lemon pie filling, and usually various fruit flavours.

Those PC Decadent Chocolate Chip cookies... the bain of my childhood, I used to eat the whole pack when my mom bought them, then go to the grocery store and buy another one to replace it before she found out. Crazy good. If you didn't know, they've got coconut in them, I learned that's part of the flavour I love so much.
I'm coming from the city where the the Jos Louis were created: Ste-Marie de Beauce. The factory is still there and elementary school grounds would smells like Vachon cakes❤
Vachon 👏 deserves an award for keeping their pricing low. Company is the real deal - we ate them in lunches as kids in 70’s. 🇨🇦 I noticed recently Walmart stocks the whole line and the price per box is incredibly affordable by comparison.
@ i find that to be true with many other brands but , the caramel, flakes, ½ moons - Vachon is all the same. I don’t know them or have anything to do with them; but i know math - it’s a note-able quality product.
@ we have 2 in my small northern city. It’s great. They also play the best music during the day not all modern. Plus they ad match with other stores. I love giant tiger!
Vachon products were WAYYY better before they sold out to Hostess. Still good though. And we Canadians love our butter tarts so much there are often butter tart festivals found in various towns most every weekend. ✌️❤️🇨🇦
There is a butter tart festival in Paris Ontario too. It’s a nightmare deciding which flavours from which booth you want. There’s way too many to choose from. Then you eat them while you walk around and then go back and buy more. The sugar rush lasts for days. lol 😆
If you eat all these your dentist is going to love you lol. I worked for a small warehouse bakery that was owned by a German Canadian and they made the best butter tarts ever. All Canadian packaging is mandated by law to be in both languages even if the product is coming from other countries. I've been to the US a couple of times, one thing I've noticed is that your chocolate has a different taste than ours, they tend to be sweeter and not as good as Canadian chocolate mind you that could be because I was brought up with Canadian chocolate.
My sister lived in the states, so when i would visit her i would bring her my homemade butter tarts. Butter tarts ate famous in Ontario Canada. My husband loves maple cream and i love the Carmel ones. You are fun to watch. I am Canadian🇨🇦🇨🇦

What a treat Friday was when I was a child in elementary school to get an Ah, Caramel! in my lunch box! I ended up working at the Vachan butter tart factory when I was a college student. I can honestly say the ingredients were, butter, brown sugar, vanilla and raisins baked in a real pastry tart cup. They let us all take a box of 6 home with us once a week!

Between 1967 and 1974 my parents rented a farm and we boarded horses for people. Every Saturday my father and I worked the barn, cleaning stalls, putting down fresh bedding, bringing straw and hay from the mow to the main level and other things. At noon he would drive us to a little gas station/restaurant and I'd have a hotdogs and fries followed by a Jos Louis. They were $0.10 at the time and twice as big as they are now. big time!
Me too lol
😂 I love your reactions. Especially to the butter tarts which are basically made from melted butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, egg, salt (I add a tablespoon of heavy cream to mine) pastry shells and nuts or raisins (which are optional).
My Quebecer heart is proud and happy you try Vachon cakes, one of Quebec delicacy for more than 100 years ago... Mr and Miss Vachon had a lot of problem finding sugar during the WW2. Plz come see us in Quebec soon ! We are not french from France but we Quebecers speak french in north america since 1608. Proud of my nation, Quebec forever. Vive le Québec ! In fact freind almost all you try today is Quebec culture 101 ! Sugar pie...Vachon cakes... Maple.flavor cookie ! ⚜️💙⚜️💙⚜️
Someone please send Tyler a box of MAY WEST!! Real Quebec snack
Ah non, pas les esti de May West 😂 Always the last ones left on the shelf. He needs to try the maple Ah Caramel !
Coaticook (QC) ice cream is arguably some of the best in the world as well
@@am89beMay West is the unliked sister of Joe Louie
Rare are those who would prefer them . . . Im personally not a fan of both but if i had to pick between those 2 it will always be Joe Louie
My Langlois family came with Samuel de Champlain too. 😊
Maple cookies are very good with coffee in the morning... just dunk then in and eat it... WONDERFUL !
he got the wrong brand because just by opening the bag your suppose to smell the maple like crazy
To quote Bob MacKenzie: "Go to the dentist."
There are other brands of maple cream cookies like Christie / Peek Frean (Nabisco) and Mr Maple (Loblaws). And yes, dunk it in a cup of coffee
@@tigerlover6308 Ok because I remember them being very strong, but maybe I'm thinking of a different brand! I haven't had them in so long.
Also good with tea.
You had the best reaction to butter tarts that I've ever seen!
The Decandent cookies seem to have more chocolate chips than most, I find. They're amazing dunked in milk!
kind of the same as Chips Ahoy Chucks..and yes no dunking is criminal.
Butter tarts & Nanaimo bars are my favourite 🤤
Hey Tyler! As a Canadian, I've always enjoyed your videos and your reactions!!! Keep them coming!
You definitely should try Viva puffs! It's a Graham cookie, marshmallow, a bit of raspberry jelly all enrobed in a delicious chocolate coating! Yum yum yummy!
I tear the marshmallows off and eat the base
I'm a traditional woman; I'd go whippet.
I call them Herberts. Can’t remember why lol
I believe they have them there too. I think I saw them at Walmart in the states
I can eat a whole box of those in a sitting.
I prefer butter tarts with pecans for sure. The crunchy salty contrast with the sweetness is beautiful. Hate them with raisins! Far too sweet.
@@Fezdani I completely agree
@@Fezdani raisins are divisive lol.
I like butter tarts with raisins. Everyone has their favourite.
Hi Tyler, I put my Oh Carmel in the fridge! Omg yummmmmy✌️😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
That's the best way to eat them. Even in the freezer. In summer it makes à good snack.
President Choice is a house brand for Lobaw's Giant grocery chain........big, big brand.

"You can't get anything more Canadian than that."

For me, the most canadian snack has to be Nanaimo Bars. But Beaver Tails are a closed second
BEAVER TAILS! The Best!
@@djyanno Same, only in reverse. Nanaimo Bars are a very close second - only because I have to make them, unlike Beaver Tails. 🙂
@@sherrydanthibodeau5464 The VERY Best!

You need to try homemade butter tarts… a really good butter tart isn’t dry and chewy. It’s almost a little tad liquidy in the middle.
I have been watching Tyler since he first came on. Let us get him up to 100,000 everyone.
there's not that many Canadians
9:56 You just earned honorary Canadian citizenship.
Not yet, let's see how he feels about hockey first though I guess the other provinces can have him unless he learns to speak quebecois of course
🇨🇦🇺🇸
Oh caramel in the freezer is the best to eat
Butter tarts absolutely slap... loved watching the reaction for this
My mother made the best butter tarts, not chewy and when you bit into them, the butter and sauce would ooze out
I have my mom's recipe binders ( about 20) after she passed away and the butter tarts recipe is my favorite uses real maple Syrup instead of corn syrup( we used to tap our own trees about 20) my mom passed away 2 years ago and already I've gone through 2 binders ( love baking) ❤
Homemade butter tarts would make me diabetic for sure. They are the best tart ever invented.
@@dragonflysurgeon eating sweets doesn't make a person a diabetic it's how your pancreas creates insulin
Aaaaand my Mother made the best butter tarts. Ever.
I love that you do videos to teach Americans about Canada..even teaching Canadians like myself some facts about our country. You gotta look up a butter tart recipe and make some at home, it’s a game changer! You should really take a trip to Canada, man!
The ah caramels were always my fave. 🤤 the Jos Luis were way bigger when I was a kid.
Yeah. And they tasted better too. Along with Mae West, the small ones. They don't exist anymore.
Holy crap I can't believe you guys don't have butter tarts! Your eyes have been opened. Now you have to try ones with raisins, or pecans, or maple, or more goop, or less goop, or more brunt on top, or less...
or chocolate butter tarts!
@@dreaming0fhighways or fishead buttertarts
I didn’t know they were Canadian. I love butter tarts.
BUTTER TART WITH PECANS omg they're the best thing in the world 😅
I love the passion flake raspberry, you missed that one! Or half moon :)
The new Candy Corn Half Moon is my new favorite!! 😅😂
Yes i was going to suggest those :D
OMG you just mentioned to my favorite snack cakes!
They are the BEST!!!
Also Jos Louis is referencing to two people: Joseph Vachon and Louis Vachon
Expect a call from the Canadian diabetes association ❤😂.
😂😂😂
Never mind, Dare & Vachon should pay him to do TV commercials.
@@omarjette3859 I had the same thought for a commercial.
@@omarjette3859 for tart's 😁
Not farts.
The butter tarts filling is made with butter and brown sugar, the even better homemade with raisins or pecans added.
Buttertarts are the GOAT. Been eating them sine I can remember. Also if you want intense maple taste, find some maple fudge!

Vachon 👏 deserves an award for keeping their pricing low. Company is the real deal - we ate them in lunches as kids in 70’s. 🇨🇦 I noticed recently Walmart stocks the whole line and the price per box is incredibly affordable by comparison.
The price is still low, but sadly, the snacks keep shrinking. All of them used to be so much bigger...
@ i find that to be true with many other brands but , the caramel, flakes, ½ moons - Vachon is all the same. I don’t know them or have anything to do with them; but i know math - it’s a note-able quality product.
I’ve left Walmart in my dust. I’m Giant Tiger…a proud Quebec company…all the way.
@ ohmygosh you’re right - i love GT and that sale rack OMG 😳 is the best. Tell Quebec to open more of those in Toronto.
@ we have 2 in my small northern city. It’s great. They also play the best music during the day not all modern. Plus they ad match with other stores. I love giant tiger!
Ah Caramel!!! Yum! Joe Louis!!! Dare is a popular brand. Butter tart is a real pastry.
Vachon products were WAYYY better before they sold out to Hostess. Still good though.
And we Canadians love our butter tarts so much there are often butter tart festivals found in various towns most every weekend.
✌️❤️🇨🇦
I don't t eat any of these ,too sweet and chemical tasting and really don't like butter tarts
Remember how good Passion Flakys were?
Vachon is not own by Hostess but by Bimbo an mexican group
They haven’t sold,out to Hostess but Saputo…
Vachon makes and markets some of the Hostess snacks in Canada (Twinkies, for example). Vachon was acquired by Saputo, then by Grupo Bimbo.
You should come to a butter tarts festival being held in Midland, Ontario. You will see butter tarts as far as your eyes can see
And sooooo many flavours and variations of the butter tart 😊
There is a butter tart festival in Paris Ontario too. It’s a nightmare deciding which flavours from which booth you want. There’s way too many to choose from. Then you eat them while you walk around and then go back and buy more. The sugar rush lasts for days. lol 😆
@@diane7105 That sounds like so much fun!! My husband would be in heaven. He LOVES butter tarts!
@@michellekelly2937 it really is! Endless butter tarts and food trucks everywhere. Plus local vendors with lots of other stuff.
This Canadian didn't know and will have to be there this year
If you ever had pecan pie, a butter tart is like a mini version that sometimes has raisins instead of pecans.
For me , i like to put my joes louis in the freezer a fews minutes before eating it so that the chocolate shell is a little crunch.
💯. I did that with ah caramel and half moons as well. So good
I loved freezing the oatmeal cream cookies.
I’ll be trying that, thanks!
Should try Passionflaky
President's Choice is a store brand. You nailed exactly what those cookies are... they're Chips Ahoy but a little better, and a little cheaper.
and with fewer artificial ingredients.
Store brand of Loblaws, to be exact.
But also a little different, they have coconut in them
Leaps and bounds better than Chips Ahoy, the Chips Ahoy took a nosedive in quality at some point. The amount of chocolate chips in PC set them apart.
A *LOT* better, IMO!!!
The way Tyler tore off the wire band on the president choice cookies 😂

What a treat Friday was when I was a child in elementary school to get an Ah, Caramel! in my lunch box! I ended up working at the Vachan butter tart factory when I was a college student. I can honestly say the ingredients were, butter, brown sugar, vanilla and raisins baked in a real pastry tart cup. They let us all take a box of 6 home with us once a week!
I make homemade butter tarts ,they are scrumptious and made with butter !
and a ton of sugar and raisins
I made the a couple days ago for the first time. An insane amount of sugar and fat, but oh so good! 😂
Hard cookies are for dipping in a hot cuppa tea, or coffee.
Or cold milk 😊
Tyler you picked the best of the best. I freeze the Au Caramel. Delish! The earliest published recipe for a butter tart is from Barrie, Ontario dating back to 1900 in the Women's Auxiliary of the Royal Victoria Hospital Cookbook.
The maple cookies and PC cookies are made to go with a big glass of milk so that you can dip the cookies, butter tarts are made with different types nuts, raisins . Heat any of the tarts with whipped cream or icecream 🍦
Always were my favorite!
The "standard" Quebec quick lunch is [hot dog, Pepsi & May West]
Butter tarts - Much better when homemade, its usually a xmas treat like Nanaimo bars. FYI, some of the snack you get eastern Canada & not in western canada too. Enjoy your cdn snackage
Hi Tyler... my name is also Tyler and I'm from Canada, and some other Canadian snacks you should try are Nanaimo bars, Coffee crisp Aero, Eatmore but the one you really need to try is Cherry Blossom. I like your content and channel... keep up exploring more about Canada 🇨🇦

The brand of those butter tarts is Baxter's Bakery. They also make Swiss rolls under the name Quinns. And they have a couple storefront cafe's in Toronto called circles and squares where you can buy the same baked goods made fresh on site.

All these are good!
You mean we "used to" have Little Debbie here in Ont. [lol &a sigh] I've asked at a number of chain supermarkets & in every single one of them I was told they no longer carry them.
The maple cookies are totally a more subtle, enjoyable cookie. They're perfect for when you want sweet, but not overpowering.
