I’m just gonna go ahead and speak on behalf of every millennial that grew up in church. WE NEED THIS. I wouldn’t change my upbringing for anything, but there were a lot of things ingrained into us that are emotionally unhealthy and honestly not even biblical. I’m about to be 36 years old and I have only learned that in the past couple of years. Between this book and Lysa‘s boundaries teachings/book I’m seeing God bring answers to the chaos and confusion! SHOW ME YOUR PRAISE HANDS EVERYBODYYYY🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

I agree with you but also I’m thankful that we as millennials are so much more in tune with our emotions than our parents. We recognize that there’s work to do & that things aren’t ok where I don’t think that’s really the norm for boomers. That’s my experience anyways.

I just walked through a season of depression and at first, was so upset with myself for feeling sad or having this overwhelming darkness over me. It felt WRONG as a believer.
I heard The Lord very clearly telling me, “be gentle with yourself. I am kind to you, so why are you so hard on yourself?? I AM with you. Let’s process this together.” I sat and took it day by day, moment by moment, and although I felt this deep emotion of sadness, I could feel His presence so closely to me. I believe that THAT’S what healed me. Not ignoring it, praying it away, or trying to fight off evil spirits, but to allow myself to be human. To allow myself to remember that my God fights for me! He cares, He sees, He knows! 🙏
Love the timing of this video and conversation.

I can't wait to get this book, read it, and do the Bible Study this summer. I get so tired of being the "strong one"....the one that everyone comes to when there's a problem....Go ask Rachel - she has the answers.
No, she doesn't. But deep down she wants to have the answers because she wants to fix things ... All the things.
Some days my brain hurts and my heart aches. Some days I want to lay in the bed with the covers pulled over my head and pretend I'm not there.
Thank you for this honest discussion.

One caveat to this: I would say I have learned to be wise about with whom you share this aspect of yourself. I have learned the hard way that some people know words of connection to draw out personal information, including emotion, for transactional, conditional purposes. When it is people in position of church authority and power, having those sensitive truths weaponized in a way to invalidate perspective can be devastating. So thankful to the Lord, I have climbed out of this pit but I confess an edge of residual cynicism as it relates to sharing story. As well, as a non-millennial raised in a society and family of origin where the expectation was secrecy and "toughen up, buttercup," coming up to speed about all this feeling in this setting caused a whole pile of confusion. Thankfully, God is bigger. He has helped me untangle the deception and the emotion and has shown me our stories can be leveraged for good even when meant to silence. I've learned to watch and listen not just what is said but what is not spoken and not just what is done but what is undone. I'm glad you are sharing this. Just be wise about with whom you share.

I love this and I know that I am going to be studying these steps but I think that many people will have trouble with the Share step. Not everyone has safe, godly people who are close enough to share deep emotions and not everyone can afford a counselor. 😢

You pointed out what I feel frustrated about. But, until we get to find any, we can vent and express our emotions to God. And keep praying for someone to listen to us along with our Father. ❤

This will be such a transformation journey. I’ve been trying to grasp regulating my emotions on my own because when I was saved all my friends abandoned me (more like God removed them because he knew they’d keep me in the dark longer than needed). Regardless, being alone with all these difficult feelings bubbling to the surface after years of addictions and suppressing them is painful and definitely confusing. I remember I’d set several alarms throughout the day to check in on my feelings and ask “what are the 3 emotions I’m experiencing”. At first I’d just cry before even naming the emotions behind the tears. It made me realize the depths God was trying to get me to internalize was a pandora box I would’ve avoided opening my whole life. Looking back I’m so thankful he forced me to face all the deep sorrow and hurt because in the end I’m stronger and can handle spiritual attacks. Combating your emotions is the hardest work you’ll ever encounter, but it’s so crucial to building a spiritual connection that can comfort anyone in their afflictions. The bond I have is immovable and unbreakable. It takes work, but the reward is getting to experience all of Christ’s love not just the “feel good” part everyone wants to emphasize.
“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” -1 Corinthians 15:58

Jennie and Lysa, I know God is God. I know He loves me. I know everything I have is because of God. I know He loves my family. But right now there is such great pain and emptiness in me. I know that my grandson went to be with Jesus in heaven and is there with Him. But, but I’m so sad and feel overwhelmed as I try to keep it together. I want to help my family but I’m afraid I’m not going to be able to do it.

I would say, dear one, that you give yourself PERMISSION to grieve. Time will heal, but it's TIME, and it's painful. Trust the Lord to help you just do the next thing. Rest is very critical. Grief takes its toll on our body as well. My arms go running to you.❤ "Unto everyone of us is given GRACE, according to the measure of the gift of Christ." Your feelings of fear are so normal. Jesus will be there one day at a time. ❤

"Emotions are gifts from God, given to help us navigate a mixed-up world and connect more deeply with the Lord and each other.
"Noticing, naming, feeling, sharing, and choosing are simple steps to navigate emotions, like a muscle that needs practice to grow.
