Day 11-Road to Alaska- Welcome to Eagle River, AK! After 11 days and 4,821 miles we finally made it!

We're the Sullivans. One spontaneous vacation to Alaska set our hearts on fire to sell everything, step out of our comfort zones and truly start walking blindly in our faith. A year later and that call is bringing us all to Alaska full time. We can't wait for you to join along as our two families leave conventional behind and start a journey towards a more intentional or as we're calling it off grid faith.
Day 11 is our final day of the long haul from the south to Alaska. We have traveled over 4,800 miles across the United States and Canada to reach our new home. We depart from Tok and travel the Richardson and Glenn highways making our way to Eagle River. Along the way, we encounter breathtaking views including; Mentasa Pass, Matanuska Glacier, Glennallen, Palmer, Knik River, and Highland Road.
Prior Day
On day 10 of our Alaska road trip, we depart Destruction Bay, Yukon and travel the 224 miles to Tok, Alaska. We have really enjoyed seeing the beautiful landscapes Canada has to offer but are very excited to make it back to Alaska, USA. Just before US customs, we are excited to see the Alaska welcome sign greeting us at the Canadian border. Here, you know you are entering one of the prettiest places in the country. From mountains, to tundra, to wide open valleys, a road trip to and through Alaska is truly an epic adventure. We easily spent close to half an hour here at the border as this was a great a place to get out and take pictures.
Under a mile from the international border, we head through US customs. Just past customs, the Alaska highway becomes increasingly worse. This section of the Alcan was definitely the worst as the extreme climate takes a toll on this area. For several miles, we reduce our speed as there are numerous potholes, gravel breaks, deteriorated shoulders, bumps, and frost heaves.
As we arrive in Tok, we dine in at Fast Eddy’s restaurant, which is highly recommended. They had an amazing menu with delicious chicken. Fries were exceptional as well. Our AirBnB for the evening used to be the Tok General Store. The floorpan was a little quirky as it was an open space that all 10 of us shared together.; however, all worked out well and the kids really enjoyed the space.

Came up just a couple years before you. Couldnt stop to take pictures or see attractions under threat of a 10k fine. And got stares and insults like "****ing covid spreader.

I can’t even imagine doing that trip and not being able to stop and take pictures. What a bummer and I’m sure such a pain to deal with Covid stuff while making that kind of trip.
