In the 28th Gosei I had defeated Kataoka Satoshi 9P and Ishii Kunio 9P in the final tournament, and this game was the quarter-final.
In the following semifinal, I lost to Yoda Norimoto 9P. Yoda went on to take the Gosei title.

Other Go TH-camrs: here's a game I played against random123.
Michael: here's that time I beat Cho Chikun.
And just so we know it's not style advantage also Takemiya Masaki, two pros with very different styles
I saw that you had 63 likes, so I added the 64th to "square" you away! I also love Redmond games. He's the greatest Western born Go player who'll exist for a long time. We got some solid Americans and Germans, but they are not even close to his level (success in tourneys and such).
Don't have anything to say, but I'm leaving a comment for the TH-cam algorithms to promote the channel. Thanks for this great video!
What an interesting game, the anecdote about Cho Chikun made it even more enjoyable. It's also very funny how the 3:3 point is so much favoured today.
Giving up points in the end game is robot style. Nothing to be ashamed about. Great game!
Great! You must have felt quite proud beating Cho Chikun.
Got my first goban and stones today, and I played out this game and the Samsung quarterfinal game you commented on, and they were so much fun to see play out physically. Thanks for the comentaries, even if I dont always understand why what's happening is happening.
Very interesting to hear how your opponent’s emotional response then bled into your handling of your endgame. This shows that the real battle is not on the goban but in our own heads. This is true for a kyu player playing a club game and a Pro in a serious tournament. Thank you for sharing this.
Go Is a very interesting game. I want to learn. Thanks so much, Master. Greetings with all my respect from Bogotá Colombia.
So cool to be able to play and WIN against such a legendary player. Very entertaining game and excellent explanations as always.
Beating legends like Cho Chikun and Masaki Takemiya must feel awesome.. I love both of their styles, even though they defer so much(Takemiya strong influencial with extremely good counting skills opposed to Chikun territorial -invasion with excellent life and death reading skills).
Sweet so glad you finally uploaded this. Cho chikun is an awesome player so this is a rediculously wonderful game
As I move from a ddk to a sdk you've been such a great help! Thank you so much
Obviously I know you're a 9-dan professional, which puts you in elite company, but it's still gotta be pretty cool to beat one of the all-time greats and to have such an interesting anecdote to go with it. Nice win!
Very nice and personal review of a game against a close to legendary player.
instant sub, I already watched your commentaries in many different events such as nhk cup so you giving very understandable commentary is no surprise, but as a 5kyu the game and potential sequences are so easy to understand it makes me hestitate if that is normal :D
A blast to the past! So fun to watch your pro games Michael and it's oddly refreshing to see some of the old joseki in play.
What a great game, so many groups to consider... it’s amazing how pros can see what’s happening everywhere in the board.
Excellent video! What a great battle! I don't know if you would be interested, but I would love to see some videos where you talk about some stories or anecdotes about your go life. Perhaps some friendships with other professionals, rivalries, your highs and lows, or even some sake-related tales! Anyway, keep up the great content!
Amazing game and amazing commentary! One can sense that this is a special one to you, that makes it super exciting to watch. 27min felt like 5 ..
Thank you for that video! It is really amazing to understand the way and direction of thinking of such wonderful professional player! The emotions you are sharing are giving a thrill to the review and encourage me to study more :) Thank you very, very much Sensei!
Thank you for the analysis, Michael. Very exciting yet calculated game.
I liked it so I liked it
I liked you too
Halo Michael. Thank you very much for posting this video. Nice to see you are doing well.
Great video Sensei, actually all your vids are awesome, I don't give like to all because I don't want to be annoying. Definitely the tea-suji is a classic of Chikun Sensei hehe. In international tournaments, could you play with non-Japanese legends like Cho Huhyun?
Amazing match, thanks!
love you game reviews, please do it more :) decisively the best go channel on youtube
Thank you! I really enjoy learning stories outside the go board. Please keep creating more videos. They are very helpful.
We thank you!
Michael Redmond vs Cho Chikun commentary by Redmond >> OMG
Great stuff, especially the comparison of fuseki ideas before and after AlphaGo.
Excellent game and great commentary!
Excellent game, with lots of interesting passages! And well done for taking your second fleeting opportunity!
Thank you Micheal. I love the added AI analysis. ♥
Thank you for sharing this game
Thanks for the video!
Thank you for your videos Michael
i found your comments on Cho Chikun to be quite hilarious x'D
Thank you for the video sensei.
Haha yes. Cho Chikun is entertaining to watch. I'm visualizing a face slap. 😆
I am not going to pretend like I know anything but it sounds like he felt very confident that he was going to win so he gave you a handicap and then regretted it.

Every time I see Cho Chikun I want to say, "So it koes."
wow. such a nice game. do you have any photos from that old games? it would be nice to add them.
Cho! What a sweetie.
Curious to what sounds like a faint giggle in the background at 14:50
There is something there, maybe a conversation going on outside.

Any book recommendations for kyu-level players to help reach amateur dan level?
