I believe those two people he hated are the Shah Brothers which wouldnt make sense at that point in the timeline since *it* didnt happen yet, I dont believe Anthony Quayle was the king back in the original 1966 - 1972 production but I could be wrong. I would recommend using footage and images of Nasrudin since thats out there of the film and The Thief and The Cobbler really only started in 1972/1973 because the cobbler was invented in 1972/1973. I also wouldnt use type The Recobbled Cut in the little corners because technically its an unofficial restoration which doesnt seem to have been liked by Richard, he also never saw the thing. The thief was always in Nasrudin not in the books but in the Movie itself, back then he actually had a name, Abdul Salaam. Also the Cards Scene qas most likely made after the whole Saudi Arabian Prince thing because in the documentary it's still slightly unfinished and the design of ZigZag was still a little bit different back in the late 70s. A small nitpick i always have is that people (most likely accidentally) use footage of The Thief and The Cobbler done by *the other companies* and not Richard Williams, i also dont understand why they cant just use old pencil tests, theres alot online you can find if you simply just type the Thief and The Cobbler pencil tests in the TH-cam search and theres always the KA Reels and Warner Brothers Reels too that have old and unfinished animation too. Anyways thanks for making this video, just wish it was a bit more detailed.

I've been waiting for this one man! Also I liked that joke at the beginning. I do animation and every time I look up one Richard Williams I get the other one suggested in the algorithm lol. Of course, it makes sense since it's related to sports and he recently got a biopic, but I still think it's funny.

I know! You’ed be surprised at how many artists i have to put “animator” behind to get the right guy 😂

11:58 Weird how it got a TV cartoon despite the failure.

I feel like that had more to do with the children's book series than the movie though. Chuck Jones was doing specials based on the characters around the same timeish.

@@yelloweyeball I know and the addition of Grumpy Bear.
But the character designs were carried over from the movie.

Maybe in future you could do a video on Disney animator Shamus Culhane. He in some ways was like a prototype to Richard Williams and he wrote a book in the 80s, "Animation, from script to screen", that was almost like an early version of "The Animator's Survival Kit". Williams even referenced it in the animator's survival kit, but claimed that Culhane's advice made no sense. Which to be fair, Williams' book is clearer and ages better. Culhane also spent a lot of his career working on animated commercials, but in New York. He had one of the first studios to do it.

It's interesting seeing all these interviews. A very well made video.
I need to pipe up though, it's hard to read the black text on grey background. Is that from you or the interview footage?

is it the text that comes up for a bit saying where the interview came from and the year? I agree it is hard to read, good note! (I made this video a few years ago and just recently made it public) I should have made that text white on the grey background. This may have been before I figured out how to do that lol. I wish I could fix it :/ thanks for the compliment!
