  • In 1978, Michael Lewis’s parents, Nancy and Derek, read about a new horse-related therapy in Europe that might help their son, Michael, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Today, Michael still rides at the Center weekly and here his parents deliver a message of appreciation to all the generous donors who have made the last 40 years at The Shea Center possible.

To support our mission of improving the lives of those with disabilities through horse-related programs, The Shea Center holds two major fundraisers each year. One of these events is the Annual Gala where 400 guests gather at Montage Laguna Beach for an exciting evening of entertainment, a sumptuous dinner, silent and live auctions, and generosity. During the evening, this video was shown to share with the guests how the activities at The Shea Center affect the lives of our riders.
The Shea Center is dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities through therapeutic horse-related programs and serves over 1,000 participants each year, providing more than 13,000 hours of client services annually. Utilizing 23 horses and the assistance of more than 800 community volunteers The Shea Center is able to address 75 distinct disabilities through a variety of programs that include physical, occupational, and speech therapies.
