Omar had me in shock this episode, his ability to get things done and save Johnathan was one of the most impressive moves I've seen in a long while. Hope he wins but even if he doesn't then he should still be proud to be a great Survivor player.

I think they should make it so whoever smashes the hour glass DOESN'T get immunity either way. Let them pick which group they think they personally have better chances with. I think it would be way more interesting

My thoughts are maybe they can take ONE of their immunities and take their place, however if they win the challenge, the hourglass smasher loses their immunity AND their vote
i wouldnt mind the hourglass twist NEARLY as much if it didnt affect the one deciding much, like if they were immune or not immune no matter what they choose and they are aware of that, so theres more than a 2% chance that they yknow, dont smash the hourglass? because my main problem with it is how predictable it is
I think that that would make it fair. The person smashing the hourglass would be not immune either way because they don’t participate in the challenge. If the decision didn’t change that, then it would come down to wether their alliance won or lost the challenge
@@coral54hgmb I actually like you’re immune more than not immune, solely because you lost 48 hours worth of discussion. Gives you a bit of a shield for that TC, and that TC alone, and gives you the choice of playing with either side, depending on what happens.
I'd still think it's dumb tbh cause people who win immunity shouldn't be stripped of it arbitrarily. It could work if Jeff specifically says that they're just playing for reward but even then, I feel like immunity should only be given to challenge winners. If they really wanna do something like this again, what I think they should do is have the exiled person be immune no matter what and instead of flipping the immunity, they instead get to choose two players who will also get immunity alongside them and none of them compete in the immunity challenge. This would actually cause some drama and stakes to this twist cause it isn't just a choice between having immunity or not, it becomes more akin to when people get to pick others to go on reward with them. You run the risk of showing your cards too early, by revealing your closest allies or you could try to get in some people's good wills and try to form cross-tribe bonds. In any case, there'll be some people happy and some people upset with you, which creates tension moving forward into the merge, which is what Survivor is trying and failing to do with this hourglass twist. Even better would be if the exiled person plus the people they choose are sent off to a different camp and won't go to tribal, meaning the person would also have to be strategic about who they choose so they don't leave an ally vulnerable for tribal. F.e. let's say idk Maryanne is exiled. Does she choose two Taku's to go with her and potentially lose one of them or does she take two from the other tribes to have a three person Taku voting block for tribal and weaken the other tribes? What about someone like Tori who was clearly on the outs on her tribe, would she try to salvage relationships she's formed already or seek greener pastures by creating new ones? It adds a lot more intrigue than anything the hourglass twist can provide and also gives some legitimacy to the whole "fake merge" idea as it is kind of the merge with a flavor of pre-merge since some players won't be present at tribal.
I think Mikes game is really underrated rn. Didn’t do much maneuvering at the merge but seems to have good relationships with almost everyone on the island.
42 is WAY better than 41. Still too many bells and whistles, but much more entertaining all around. Also, bring back reward challenges. Seeing them starve and suffer isn't fun to watch.
Oh my god agreed season 42 was superior, season 41 was like watching paint dry with the lack of strategy. I also wasn’t rooting for a single person. This season felt the opposite there were so many strong players, minus Romeo mike & Chanel everybody seemed to be playing very great games.
@@UltimateBuckyBoy I think that's just bc for S41 & S42 they shortened the game for pandemic reasons from 39 days to 26 days. so there's a 13 days differences, 2 whole weeks. yet, we get the same number of episodes as every other seasons. if they get as many rewards per episode as a normal season, it would mean they'd get a reward feast everyother day. not only will that bring the value of the rewards (as it's not as rare anymore), but it'd lose a lot of that survival aspect of survivor. I think the hunger that S41&42 contestants get from that 26 days is about the same as the hunger level contestant get during the 39 days in previous seasons. sidenote: I think they also got rid of letters from home for somewhat of the same reason.. 26 days without contact of the family just doesn't give the dame impact. I know it's barely 2 weeks, but for survival in the wild that's a huge difference. we had contestants broke down in just days, players quitting mid season, and ex-players saying that even a day goes by so so slowly in the jungle.
My favorite thing to come of the hourglass twist is Peridiam referring to if as “smash or pass”. Also this video helped me understand Hai’s move, because voting Jonathan or Maryanne was risky to his game.
The least they could've done with the whole twist in play is give whoever was voted out a jury spot. They made the merge and through little fault of their own had it taken away from them

In exile, hourglass decides who to give immunity to (both groups have equal no in this case), with the exile person auto immune regardless of their decision. GG
I'll be shocked if either Chanelle or Tori aren't the next to go. With Tori probably being the backup plan if Chanelle wins immunity. Although Tori seems like the type who could end up lasting long because other moves take priority.
Tori is probably a 0 vote finalist based on her edit so far. I'm guessing she somehow skates by as others become targets and at some point will become a goat no one's concerned about, kinda like Xander last season.
Great recap, as per usual! Omar has set himself up so well here. I think his perceived threat level is very low, which is very good. I was impressed by many players at this merge. I do think the lack of season theme (plus shorter schedule and no swaps) led to more mixing at the merge.
I love coming to videos like this one a few weeks after the fact, and seeing how the foreshadowing and predictions ended up shaking out. Your closing comment about Tori and Chanelle being on borrowed time was right on!
This was Omar's episode. If the "eight" (now seven, maybe six, Rocksroy wtf?) stick together from here, then I think it means we'll see an Omar VS Hai showdown for the endgame and, based on this episode, it might be some of the best survivor we've seen in a long time.

Legit! Before this episode I considered him as a rather bland character in a cast full of personality, but now I really enjoy his perspective - the way he goes about both the game and life are so unlike anyone else, it's refreshing and makes me want him to go far
I wish they expanded more on Drea and the red paint. It was also odd seeing Jonathan with red paint on his hands before the merge. Specifically when Mike asks him if its too late to keep the votes the way he originally wanted.
This season is honestly super entertaining with quite a few good players. Personally wanting to see Johnathon break the record with 6 Ind. Immunity wins. I wouldn't mind anyone but Tori, Maryanne, Chanelle and Romeo for the win.
It's fun to think that but the ones who win individual immunity challenges are the ones with great puzzle ability, small frame and less bulky muscle (for endurance challenges), great balancing abilities, and actual endurance running ability. He has none of those and will most likely win 0 immunities (maybe 1 at best). Watch the last 10 seasons of individual challenges and they are almost a combo of those characteristics. Strength means nothing. Plus, you have to be in the game long enough to have a chance!

I think it's kinda crazy that 3 of the most active and effective players are the 3 Canadians. Omar being the mastermind, Maryanne hustling effectively and Drea being quiet but deadly.
I expected Jonathan and Omar to make it to the end similarly to JT and Steven, except this time Omar's going to be the winner. That's my prediction, let's see if it holds up!
Hey Peridiam, you should do a video analyzing which winners did so using advantages or not... like if they had to use idols, extra votes, or whatever. With this season I'm starting to think that advantages are giving players a certain mindset of feeling so safe that they never see the blindsides coming.
If given the chance to make a big move AND gain immunity *smash the hour glass* any reason player will do so. This is a twist for players, NOT viewers. The hourglass stage (late pre-merge) is when players are motivated to kick it in gear to build their resumes. This is why the will they or won’t they build up in the edit doesn’t work. It essentially wastes time that could be allocated to (pre)merge plot lines. ------ I agree with @handsoap here. The person making the decision should be immune either way (for the next tribal) so their decision is not swayed by self preservation. Also it would be quite interesting to see what @handsoap outlined: have them pick 2 people to be safe (not flip everyone) and weigh the risks of revealing alliances and strategies. ALTERNATIVELY The exiled person could be made take immunity away from 2 winners and bestow it on 2 losers. If they are not flipping everyone, they wouldn’t need to gain immunity for themselves. Also IMAGINE the Drama ✨
I hoped that the hourglass twist was to just turn back the time and make them redo the challenge (draw rocks again) and just change some parts of the challenge, and not just flip the results
so far Omar is my number one right now base on how he can gather people without immunity and a vote. My second is hai base on minority vote becoming on top (saving Lydia). And my third is drea have a lot of advantages and still manage to take out people without using it. Reason she is my third pick is she hasn’t use it yet, how to use is very important. Like a Xander move that got wasted or not significant when using it.
My only grudge, and survivor should really consider this, is the hourglass twist. I don’t want it anymore. I hate this mergatory style. I hate how much it just devalued Johnathans efforts in general. Just get rid of it and stick to the older style. I loved the tv for this episode, but this format doesn’t work and it really undermines the efforts of the winning team. (Also… Applebees? Really?) Edit: Despite all of that. S42 will still be ranked lower because of just how unoriginal it is. I understand the similarities, but they’re really trying to make this season feel like 41 but it isn’t. Edit 2: On second thought, I never realized how much I disliked 41 and how much I enjoy the burning dumpster fire of unlikable tribes Vati and Lua. Also, the twists, despite being copy paste, are DEFINITELY doing wonders in screwing everyone up and making the most out of it. Whereas 41 threw them down the drain. And then on top of that Erika’s game was heavily influenced by it. I dislike winners who win because of twists, and I like Erika. But don’t deny that Production had a hand in there. So… 42 as of right now is a lot better due to the editing being more balanced and just how much fun it is to root for the likables and hate the hatables. SUCK IT 41

Either he's winning or he's a decoy. My money's on decoy tbh, idk something about his edit just screams winner so far which is suspect to me.
I'm not sure he's playing the type of game these players will respect/find impressive in the end, so I doubt his win potential, but you never know.

The hourglass stage (late pre-merge) is when players are motivated to kick it in gear to build their resumes. This is why the will they or won’t they build up in the edit doesn’t work. It essentially wastes time that could be allocated to (pre)merge plot lines.

I agree with @handsoap here. The person making the decision should be immune either way (for the next tribal) so their decision is not swayed by self preservation.
Also it would be quite interesting to see what @handsoap outlined:
have them pick 2 people to be safe (not flip everyone) and weigh the risks of revealing alliances and strategies.
ALTERNATIVELY
The exiled person could be made take immunity away from 2 winners and bestow it on 2 losers. If they are not flipping everyone, they wouldn’t need to gain immunity for themselves. Also IMAGINE the Drama ✨

I hoped that the hourglass twist was to just turn back the time and make them redo the challenge (draw rocks again) and just change some parts of the challenge, and not just flip the results

so far Omar is my number one right now base on how he can gather people without immunity and a vote. My second is hai base on minority vote becoming on top (saving Lydia). And my third is drea have a lot of advantages and still manage to take out people without using it. Reason she is my third pick is she hasn’t use it yet, how to use is very important. Like a Xander move that got wasted or not significant when using it.

My only grudge, and survivor should really consider this, is the hourglass twist.
I don’t want it anymore. I hate this mergatory style. I hate how much it just devalued Johnathans efforts in general. Just get rid of it and stick to the older style. I loved the tv for this episode, but this format doesn’t work and it really undermines the efforts of the winning team.

Edit: Despite all of that. S42 will still be ranked lower because of just how unoriginal it is. I understand the similarities, but they’re really trying to make this season feel like 41 but it isn’t.
Edit 2: On second thought, I never realized how much I disliked 41 and how much I enjoy the burning dumpster fire of unlikable tribes Vati and Lua. Also, the twists, despite being copy paste, are DEFINITELY doing wonders in screwing everyone up and making the most out of it. Whereas 41 threw them down the drain. And then on top of that Erika’s game was heavily influenced by it. I dislike winners who win because of twists, and I like Erika. But don’t deny that Production had a hand in there. So… 42 as of right now is a lot better due to the editing being more balanced and just how much fun it is to root for the likables and hate the hatables. SUCK IT 41
