You really did a beautiful job on that blade. I gotta say I like everything about that blade. I also love how carbon steel looks when it’s used. You are very talented. That’s one of the designs I like the most. I’m not a big fan of finger choil. Kinda changes the balance then again it probably just a personal opinion.
Hello, thank you, I appreciate it. My dad basically designed this knife. I asked what he wanted and I drew him this knife. The only thing I added was the blade length. He wanted a shorter blade so it wouldn’t get in the way and I convinced him on a longer one and worked it out with the sheath. I really like how this steel looks used. K390 won’t look like this but when I worked with Vanadis 4 extra it was rusting more than K390 so I’m hoping it will patina more too. I like how the finger choil feels on my knife because it feels more like a dagger when I use it because of the balance point. But the difference isn’t big so it is mostly a personal choice.
I use a Green River Sheepskinner with a modified grip as my main knife. It gets lots of use. (i.e. has gutted and skinned or helped with four deer 3 antelope and an elk this fall.) I have a hack. I initially treat the blade with a “cold blue” product i.e. Birchwood Casey”. I think it pretty much stops rust completely. I also did this with my carbon Sodbuster Jr. Which I used in Northern Mich for three weeks this summer. It was under water a lot. No rust! (I have redone it once.) Nice knives you are making!!! Just the kind I think are the most practical for hard use!👍 PS to me, The sheath is perfect as well!😁
Hello, thank you for the compliments and on your experience with your knives. I’ve never tried bluing a knife, I appreciate you including the brand that’s worked for you, but I might in the future. As of now I like my knives to patina naturally since I find it interesting to see what they do. But I would blue a knife if it needed to be, quickly, more rust resistant because of its use and purpose.
Looks like a good utilitarian/working knife. Nice job. 👍
Thank you.

It looks good
Thank you. It’s aged pretty nice.
What knife is this originally? Name brand?
I made this knife. I did it through stock removal and then had it heat treated by Peter’s.
