I got to take apart my 17kw model apart. It's 10 years old and the end fan is coming apart, Apparently there is a problem with the older design fan and it can interfere with the sheet metal housing. A common problem I hear after talking to some service techs. Owners should have been informed of this so as to replace it with a new one as a preventative measure. Now I got to service this thing in the worse weather conditions. Thanks for the video.
This is quite a bit later in time. I tr iui ed tapping, I tried a puller. Neither one works. Is there some sort of locking nut or something i need to remove first?
This video was not really intended for public display, more as an instruction to someone in particular. If it helps you with your generator, that's great.
Question...what is the serial number of the brush? I am trying to order for my 17kw generac. It starts, runs a few seconds, stops, says, "under voltage"
What I was calling a flywheel is just really a fan. Mouth and brain not working in unison. No puller just tap gently with a hammer to break the friction on the shaft.
Hi Minion, I have a Generac generator of 14KW, it starts and runs well but does not generate any voltage and does not display any type of error on the screen. I noticed that on the floor of the unit there are some pieces of copper just below the generator. Do you have any idea what may be happening to this generator? Thank you very much
Hi, thank you for your answer. Since this model of generator does not have AC receptacles (it is a 14KW unit), I am measuring the voltage right in the AC output (AC distribution panel) and there is not voltage while the generator is running. I am worried about the copper debris in the floor of the unit, may be the stator or the rotor winding got damage somehow, is it possible to happen?.
If it's not something simple as the breaker being tripped it could be several different things. In the video here it turned out to need a new control board. Follow the trouble shooting flow chart on page 37 & 38 of the service manual. Since you indicated copper debris might want to directly go to test 7 and 11 for the stator and rotor. That would require replacement or a rewind. Mechanical damage to the winding is is pretty unusual. Usually winding failure will be from electrical short. I would make a visual inspection of the generator windings. I've uploaded the manual to box.com. Here is link. Good Luck app.box.com/s/q4qdeysnainsjjst6bauhlwer7sqqp8k
Hi Minion, Unfortunately both, the stator and rotor have broken and burned wires and need to be replaced. I am wondering if it is possible to rewind them but I do not have the specifications, blueprint of copper distribution, number of turns and the copper diameter to perform the job. I have looked at the generac spare parts providers and both parts costs 1.000,00$ brand new, so the possibility to rewind the stator and rotor will cost less for sure. Do you have this information by any chance? Thanks again.
I got to give him a compliment for pausing the video but blanking the screen and the process is not the way you do it it actually causes the video and leaves it off right where it started so you can pause stop and start the video as you're going through the repair process anyway the terminologies he's using would be a little bit better off if he used the technical terminology instead of what are you saying he should be saying the negative and positive terminals are marked on each side of the housing

Thanks for the video.
Tried to tap it, but ended up using a puller. Easy as pie!! Thx

Minion Man thank you

Matthew D. I got the same dang problem right now. I really don’t want to pull this thing apart without being sure that’s the problem
How do I take the fly wheel off? Do I need a puller?

When you say there is no voltage, do you mean from the receptacle on the generator? Where did you measure?

Good morning and thank you so much. I will review this and inform, it looks that it will take a while to run this tests. Regards.
