Love this idea for a blind taste test! I always buy the big resealable bags of M&ms, whatever is the cheapest per ounce. I wish Trader Joe’s sold theirs in other sizes. On a side note, I went to Dollar General today on a hunt for the pecan snickers after seeing yesterday’s haul. Found it. Tried it when I got home. Now I’m wanting to go back and buy more 😂 wish it too came in other sizes!!!

Recently I bought one of those mix bags of M&Ms where it had plain, peanut, and peanut butter. I noticed that I did not like the peanut ones anymore. I do not like peanuts but didn't mind them in Miniature Mr. Goodbars or Peanut M&Ms for awhile. Still don't mind them in Mr. Goodbar because they are tiny, I guess. I really did not like the "new" peanut M&Ms - but the weird part is because I generally love Peanut Butter M&Ms but while the peanut ones now do taste like PB M&Ms on the outside, they were yucky to me. Honestly, even the plain and PB ones seemed to have changed and I like them less than before, though still like them okay. The mini plain M&Ms are still fun.
@@TamiDunn The only paydays I like are the days I get a direct deposit (hehe) and the game payday. I steer clear of most candies that have nuts in them. 🙂 I am trying to think of any that I actually don't mind. I don't think there are any other than Goodbar!
I have to buy the Trader Joe’s ones next time we go to Little Rock. We live an even further away than you do. We stop by there when we go to the VA hospital, Trader Joe’s and Costco stock up then.
That is a surprising one. I have never tried a knock off candy that was even close to being as good as the original to me. I can see the chocolate making a difference though. I have never considered Mar's chocolate to be anything wonderful, but I do love M&M's plain and peanut.
Most store brands stick very close to the name brand ingredients. It all comes down to what chocolate is used, what nut is used etc. etc. What have they replaced. Its usually minor stuff but it can make a big difference... if the chocolate has more cacao or is there more sugar. All that.
I just prefer dark chocolate since it tastes better to me, but I get your point; Trader Joe's doesn't do milk chocolate as much. For me in the end it's the price that drives my decision, and since M&M's are cheaper per ounce (at least at my local grocery store), I'd rather buy those. Plus, the convenience is a factor for me too; I also have to drive a bit to get to my local TJ's, so I only go a few times a year. Annnnd, Trader Joe's doesn't have a dupe of my favorite M&M flavors, pretzel and dark chocolate 😉
Unfortunately, Trader Joe's are only available at Trader Joe's which is 45 minutes away from us. So, even though they taste good, we will continue to buy M&M's.
Interesting that the Trader Joe's versions look faded, the same as the ALDI versions here in Australia. Although I prefer the real ones the copycat ones are good too.
I love the blind taste tests! I am not surprised at all, TJ's puts out some really good products! I am used to knock off M&Ms being terrible and cheap tasting chocolate! I must try these peanut TJ ones! If they make other flavors like pretzel/peanut butter at TJs i bet those would be delicious.

I haven’t had the TJ’s peanut version because I don’t like peanut M&M’s. The TJ’s plain M&M’s are much better than the actual M&M’s. I like the texture and the flavor much much better. I agree, you don’t taste the dye. I noticed that too. Thanks for a great review.

I have M and M’s as my dessert for my movie nights with my buttered microwave popcorn. Put the M&Ms in my popcorn. Salty and sweet at the same time.

In a product as such…when there is less fat, it’s replaced with sugar as carbohydrate. That is why the peanut m&m’s have less fat but more carbs.

I wish smarties, in 🇬🇧, would do a peanut version. I’d always choose smarties over M&M’s as I prefer Nestle chocolate. Great taste test and review.
