      Gary forgot more about playing the guitar than the " new guy" will ever know. Substandard replacement at best 🙄

    If it weren't for Gary ...Kevin...YOU would have NEVER had a career of any kind....this was from the start Gary's...Neil's ...and Alan's band...the glory years of 79-83 are long gone and it was Gary who really made this band so great all those years ago.

      Love me some GR, however, ONLY number ones, and still mostly played today REO songs, are Cronin's tunes. They inspired the best in one-another.

      Gary made REO a great rock band. He wanted them to kick it all night long instead of Kevin’s who wanted them to be more like the Village People

      @@chrishealey7221 you Kevin haters are pathetic! Gary was very talented but so is Kevin. Kevin wrote a majority of their songs after he came back to the group and his distinct voice was REO. Gary was awesome, but they needed each other. Also, Kevin’s songs were most of the hits.

    • @scottmcclure4153

      @@harrisongelles685 not really. Most of their hits are from their first two singer. Kevin lost his voice for 5 years. He came back. They recorded 2 live albums. That what got them bigger. They were more polished with Kevin. They had hi infidelity album with Kevin that made it big . After that not much good from this camp. Gary was reo.

    Kevin can talk all he wants and he sure is good at that. Too bad he and Gary couldn't get together for one last tour with the original band members when they still had the chance. Gary waited for the phone call that never came. Yes I know he had his demons so who knows for sure but REO probably could have made more of an effort to help him.

    I met Kevin Cronin, Neal Doughty, Bryan Hitt & Dave Amato after an REO Speedwagon concert in 2004. I made the mistake of asking Dave if he knew how Gary Richrath was doing. He called him an effin alcoholic & drug addict with much disgust. I was stunned. It must be hard to fill Gary's big shoes.

      After Gary left the band it was over. No more REO period. Nothing more than a cover band today. Kevin; you should be a lot more thankful than you are openly as far as Gary went. Without Gary there was no REO.

      Also I recently heard, by Kevin himself, in 1973 they were in the process of kicking Kevin out of the band, but he lucked out,
      Because Riding the Storm out became a hit..

      TimmyHall20000 I met your dad a couple of times in London in 2007 at Hammersmith Apollo, and after the show at the K West Hotel in Shepherd’s Bush, and then again the follow year in Nottingham before he and KC went on the UK TV show This Morning. Then finally shared pizzas with him and the rest of the REO gang backstage at the O2 after their 2008 show at IndigO2 in London. We had a good chat and he was happy to pose for photos and gave me some of his big triangle bass picks, he’s a great guy! Some great memories and tons of great photos.

    Ha. You called the new guy joke.

  • @Colhogan06
    @Colhogan06 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Kevin is obviously over compensating for treating Gary like crap. Plus he talks on and on because he likes to hear himself talk. This new guy joke is getting real old. He made the same joke when I seen them in April of 2018. Dave plays the music but some of the songs he just doesn't do them justice. I will just point out 1 example so this isnt too long. Everytime I've heard Dave do "Back on the Road Again" the guitar solo's are different. They do not sound remotely like the original and that is a crime. The solos should at least have the same basic structure and then if he wants to add some Dave flair that's fine. But when you go in and totally change the solos so the song isn't recognizable, to me that is taking it too far. You can remove Gary from the band if you must but dont go and strip his essence from the songs as well. The fact that Kevin allows it to happen tells me he isnt concerned that Gary's essence was stripped out of that song.

    • @dyintoserve
      @dyintoserve  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I won't argue that it sucks that Gary ever left the band. Cool guy. Bumped into him on an elevator at the hotel before a concert in 1988, asked him to come to our room to meet our friends, and he did it. Miss him. He and Kevin had major conflicts, but at this point, Gary ain't coming back and anyone that plays in his place will never stack up. Kevin says nice things about him because to do anything else would be straight up wrong. REO concerts stand the test of time somehow, same old songs, same old jokes.

    • @Colhogan06
      @Colhogan06 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@dyintoserve I can appreciate what your saying I guess I just tend to get angry when I think of the way he was removed from the band. Your right in that Kevin should only say good things about Gary but trust me when I say Kevin is definitely having a hard time coming to terms with how he squeezed Gary out. Especially now that he is gone. Most people agree he found Gary's weakness and then played to that weakness until Gary was a mess. His weakness was being alone and if you watch the REO behind the music video you can see him and another guy just blowing him off. It was very sad to watch. I would assume from how natural that came to Kevin at that time, that he had been working on squeezing him out for some time by that point. Apparently there are other videos out there that show him doing the same thing to Gary so he definitely had an agenda and he played it masterfully. This is why I get so verbal about Gary's departure from the band

    • @parisjackson9310
      @parisjackson9310 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Colhogan06 Agree with you. I can't help but feel that KC's remarks about Gary (even before his tragic death) are more to do with PR than sincerity. KC is a very intelligent man (I'll give him that) and he knew how fans reacted negatively to Gary being stabbed in the back and forced out of REO. So, in order to keep the band (and his musical career) a going concern, he had to rewrite history about his relationship with Gary and Gary's legacy in the band.

      If Kevin was so bad don’t you think Bruce, Neal, and Bryan would have given him the boot and stuck with Gary? Those 5 seem to do just great together and have for the past 30 years. If Kevin is as bad as everyone makes it sound I would think they would’ve left too?
