    Nice video! I love these old Simplex systems, especially when the horns on continuous signal. Would have loved to see a full test walking through the whole building.

    Had this exact system in my elementary school. They were set on 20 beats per minute set from the panel. Along with an alarm over the intercom system. That system is from the early 90’s pretty neat from the time.

    Looks like an early '90s Simplex fire alarm system. It reminds me of the one they have at the Galleria Mall in Taunton, MA. They have a Simplex 4100 system with the same 2901-9838+4903-9101 horn/strobes. Any stores that are part of the system that use alarm signals have TrueAlert horn/strobes. All initiating devices are conventional, and the pulls in the main mall area and food court (single-action 4251 T-bars) actually say "LOCAL FIRE ALARM" on top, while others don't (stores generally have 2099-9756 dual-action pulls).

    • @matthewgregory8218

      Strobes must be fairly new age like the last 5 years

      Also, I've noticed that on 8:32, one of the horns sounds like it was dying or it just sounds like that when it's on walk-test?

    • @safetech
      @safetech  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +FireAlarmFreak8647 It's just a walk-test thing. There's not a NAC in that area therefore power doesn't completely make it through before reset.

    When I heard the alarms all go off at once towards the end it took me back to my middle-high school days (06-13). That panel is the exact one my middle and high school used with the exact 9838 horns. The middle school building was originally opened as a high school in the 50’s but became a middle school in 93’. Renovation in 08-09 ended their time with us and the school got all new sounding devices, then I got to high school. My high school opened in 92’ and we had those 9838’s from the time they opened up until the end of my JR year (2012) the school went under a mini renovation/add on from 2012-2013 and as I recall the last fire drill we had in my JR year one of the 9838’s was terribly failing, I figured then they wouldn’t be around much longer and when I came back SR year we had a whole new panel and alarms all the way around. Nice to see some still in use here and there, any idea when 9838’s were first introduced?

      QVC has GoPro cameras on their Easy Pay program where they chop the price as well as applicable taxes and S&H into 2-6 monthly payments that would take care of the affordability as far as places not minding, can't help you there :D

    As someone who is new to the fire alarm scene, please don’t make fun of me for asking this, but does a walk test mean just going to the pull stations and smoke detectors, activating them, then the alarm only sound for a brief second to show they’re working?
    I’ve seen some videos where one is walking testing the stations while another is at the panel silencing every alarm. Is that due to older panel systems or what?
    Thanks for any help! Like I said I’m new to the fire alarm scene and I find it really interesting.

      Brett Ireland Walk Test allows to test every single intiating device in the system like Pull Stations and smoke
      Detectors it's just an easier way to test the devices without the system going into full alarm everytime.

      These horns work a lot better then the modern horns. These old systems last years unlike newer systems. Plus modern systems are boring. No Harmony, no variety, all of the devices sounds the same. If they never replaced the AVs at my dad’s school with spectalert advances I would like the system a lot better (they used to have rare 9221s which probably sounds cool with the different pitch of the different horns.). People would be ticked if after many years of their system being in use they have to be required to replace the system which could be expensive. That’s why you see old systems around. The panel being required to be replaced ok at least the devices would be the same but if a ENTIRE system has to be required to be replaced then that’s when people won’t be happy. Older systems are better then newer cheaper systems. I get mad when a cool old system gets replaced with a boring new system. In my opinion. OLDER SYSTEMS FOR THE WIN.
