Question: if you replace all the things recommended to be replaced, just what exactly are you left with? A lump of plastic? It's almost to the point of it not being worth it, and just buying a new pair of pedals.
Any tips for removing that retaining ring for the needle bearing? Mine spins pretty easily and i don't have anything thin and strong to get behind it to get it started. I have serviced zeroes before and got the rings off. I bought another pair of pedals off ebay and there is not enough dirt or corrosion to make the job easy.
Many thanks for the video, very helpful. May anyone know where to source replacement springs for the cleats, or entire cleats for the X-series? There must be many of us that still use the speedplays but run out of cleats. Thanks in advance!
I rode the x series cleats for about 15 years. I replaced many cleats due to the springs wearing flat, and in some cases breaking clean through. A few years ago I finally switched to speedplay zeros. The design is much better and uses a piece of hard steel as the spring mechanism rather than that thin wire. I strongly recommend you do that. Prices of x series cleats are obnoxious on eBay. There are tons of zero cleats and pedals at a much more reasonable price. It is a much better design and I have yet to wear out a cleat. There are still plenty of aftermarket parts available to rebuild speed play zeros too
This video saved me from buying new pedals, thank you for this!
Thanks for the great tutorial!

What are the problems while pedaling due to old bearings?
Do you know what the torque setting for the end bolt should be?
Sorry I couldn't find any torque recommendations.
Superb vid 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Not for Wahoo, shame

Try using the TH-cam playback controls to slow the video down if it's too quick for you.
