It kinda sucks how competitive creates a sort of race for the lowest possible/lowest detail settings in order to get an edge. Stuff like solid color textures making players easier to spot (I'm not saying FUNKe uses this, but I've seen it around) and disabling explosion smoke seems dirty to me. I hope valve tightens up what settings can be used when competitive matchmaking comes out so you don't have to feel like you're playing at a disadvantage for not running tf2 on your n64.

Based on your tf2 config, I'd suggest you try out mat_color_projection 6, it is made to imitate Protanomaly, a form a colour blindness, and matches the TF art style nicely without sacrificing the recognition of enemies and friendlies.

If Valve wants to get new players into the game, they really should tune the settings to what the majority of TF2 regulars have to the default ones. I'd rather have a transparent viewmodel than no viewmodel at all, because I don't have to watch my ammo to make sure I've reloaded. I know that might sound stupid, but that's just how I play.
Some of these, especially the null movement script, seem like major advantages. It explains some of the weird stuff I've encountered where I didn't understand how a player could play as well as they did. It just annoys me that I'm handicapped by default without changing all these things. And while it's a very small handicap, against other skilled players it matters.
I made a short script so that when I press q it toggles viewmodels on/off and it remembers which weapons have them on and off so when switch weapons I don't have to keep turning viewmodels off if I want them off for that specific weapon during that game. It remembers them even if I change classes and come back to that class.

I like to think of 'mods' as modifications to the vanilla experience, which by definition is correct (take this with a grain of salt, I can be wrong). Aside from that, thank you for introducing the command for stacking damage to me. It will be very helpful.
I prefer FlatHud... Very nice hud, as it lets you choose what general color it is (red or blue) and it has just a nice feel to it. Consider checking it out someday Funke! Or anyone else for that matter
I understand what he says about there's no perfect hud and I agree with that and thats why I think toonhud is the best as you get to customize everything about the hud
i use toon hud. it looks really great, already has transparent viewmodels and even has a seperate program to set it up. all the overrides done in there. tons of settings. though i would love that smoke thingy. i hate when rocket jumping (pogo/wall pogo the smoke is always in the way and annoying). also while reading about the no smoke script, i do want to keep the halloween smoke trail, im fine with that. as i dont use stock for rocket jumping. i use jumper

I just use the "smaller" hud that comes with TF2, it lowers all that clutter and doesn't bug out when there is a new update like some custom huds do.

another fun command is cl_burning_gibs 1 needs to be in the autoexec but makes the explosions of gore much more satisfying
