Film producing is a craft of its own which demands a set of skills that has to be carefully considered and mastered through practice a big number of us hold desires to become film producers but do not know where to start, what the rules are, steps to take and so on.
In this video we will be discussing film producing, how to start a career in film producing, how to find a great script, funding and many more.
The film producer is the office incharge of the movie project from start to finish he/she handles project scouting (coming up with the script), financing, execution, marketing and distribution. The producer of course does all these through the help of other offices of experts in different film making capacities.
The Nigerian film industry is growing bigger everyday and film producers are finding new ways to push the envelope and set new standards for how films should be.
Nigeria is currently the second highest content producer in the world, second only to Bollywood. This is to say that if your film does not stand out it get lost in the crowd of films being made.
With this said, how do you start your journey at becoming a film maker?
WHERE TO START
It is first of all important to understand that when starting a film career as a producer you must first start small but think big. Taking on large projects at a start may just be your down fall it is best to find a GREAT SCRIPT but one which is simple to accomplish, has less demand for technicalities, a story that does not demand too many locations and cast. Why you should start here is so you can build you strength slowly without risk of burning out.
Step 1: Gain experience
There is nothing in the world of film making that is as valuable as gaining experience. Most of what you do in film school is practical based this is because experience is everything in film making.
If you are starting out probably as someone who has not had the opportunity of going to film school it is important to find film makers around your place to hang around and work with for at least a year so as to build skill, network and experience.
