i would NEVER try to break open a cache that i couldn't get into. for two reasons. one, i'd feel so terrible about destroying someones hard work..and two, it wouldn't bring me any joy in signing the log. sad that there are people out there that would do such a thing. great cache!
visited the cache a few weeks back as we were in Hagerstown with friends. we all had a blast with this one. thanks wv tim. I have 50 hides out now but none like yours. you have inspired me to step up my game.
I've watched a few of your videos now and I can't believe how creative they are! My brother and I have only very recently started caching ourselves and are yet to see anything even remotely like this yet! Keep up the fantastic work!
Good idea. I try to prevent that "kind" of tampering by using a Timberlok wood screw. It has to be put on or taken off with a special bit. You can buy them at Lowe's or Home Depot. I put together most of my caches with them. On the Library cache, the damage is usually because cachers leave the jumpers cables on - burning out the motor or grabing the cache on the way up, damaging the antenna.
Thanks for your nice comments. This youtube thing is new to me, but boy are there some great ideas out there. I'm looking forward to "jumping" in. Thanks Tim
Most of my caches are in the Eastern Panhandle of WV, you can look up any of my GC codes by going to WVTim and searching on my caches. Love to have you come to 'Wild and Wonderful WV" for a visit.
Hallo, ich sehe die Geocaches sehr gerne und baue die auch nach. Ganz lieben Dank für die schönen Ideen. This ist the Art of Cache :) Very, very nice , Thank you .... Greets Frank, Germany
Love all your gadget caches I have looked at WVTim. This one is no different. I was inspired by your cache at Hedgesville Fire Dept. I have made a 'birdcage' cache and placed it at my local fire station in Te Atatu, Auckland, New Zealand, have been given permission by a local cacher who happens to work there. My cache is quite different from yours. But I will send you a link when I make a U-tube clip. Thanks again for all your hard work.
I've never been to WV before (actually haven't traveled much at all). I'm slowly collecting more and more reasons to visit, and it looks like your caches are definitely a good reason! I wonder if I could plan an entire american road trip like this (hrmmmmm)....
Wow, wow, wow! Seriously amazing, Tim. just when I thought geocaches couldn't get any cooler. I would love to find some of yours in my videos one day ( I just need to do some traveling first, ha)
Ken, GREAT question, I have done one redesign to try to prevent that from happening. I have added a momentary contact push button on the very front of the cache. That prevents that from happening. I attach one side of the antenna thru the button, the button is on the front and changed the cache page to instruct the cacher to push the button. If you decide to build, email me and I'll send you pics. Thanks for the great question.
I guess that's one way to resolve the issue. I'd have gone with a contact on the antenna so that once it hits the 90%ish up it disconnects the power via relay until power is removed from the circuit. Then going the other way it'd disconnect the power at 10%. No need for a button and the cacher is none the wiser. ;)
Thanks for your nice comments. This youtube thing is new to me, but boy are there some great ideas out there. I'm looking forward to "jumping" in. You have a great looking channel, I'm looking forward to watch more soon. Love the look of your channel, how did you get that pic in the background on your channel page, I can't figure out how to do that. Tim Tim
Love it.. A little worried though, that the person who finally opens the cache, won't figure out how to close it again -- or is that written in the logbook?
The antenna had 3 wires didnt it? White, green and black? I'm making a cache inspired by this one i have bought an antenna with 3 wires (red, black and green). I guess the red is + (positive) and the black is ground but how do i connect them when i only "need" 2.

How do you ensure the cachers who find this cache don't burn out your antenna motor by leaving the jumper cables on too long?
LOVE THIS!!!

That’s very very very cool and creative
Very clever!
Love it.. A little worried though, that the person who finally opens the cache, won't figure out how to close it again -- or is that written in the logbook?
Yes, there are instructions on the web page on how to put it up.
OMG, I love this! What's the cache code/number on this one? maybe I could find it when I go on my road trip next year!
