Preparing for the firefighter math portion of a civil service exam is difficult. In fact, it is the section that gives most aspiring firefighters the most trouble. In this video series, we'll go over basic geometry questions that you may encounter. Use the video as a resource and click the link below to print the PDF and follow along.

Firefighter math tests can cover a variety of different problem types. Typically you can expect to see problems covering geometry, algebra, fractions/decimals and word problems. Scoring high on the firefighter written test is important, as it is usually the first step to getting hired.

@@mike_pertz I used your interview questions to prepare for the panel interview and it went really well. I was offered a cadet position and start my department's academy in two weeks. I'm going through your probationary firefighter videos now to prepare for academy and the following probationary period. Thankfully the entire process went a lot faster than I thought it would. @@salcap925 I'm in tx and I have a test in August to qualify for the fire academy. Its the comprehensive examination battery test. Can you tell me what was on your test? Was there algebra, geometry? Or was it simple math? Thank you for your help

Circumference also can be pi times Diameter instead of 2 pi r.
It was thinking it was strange for him to make the 1/2d=r formula just so he could change it back to Dia lol

On my study guide for Fort Worth the only 2 math exercises mentioned were Mathematical Reasoning and Number Facility. Do you think theres a chance they could surprise me with more in-depth stuff like this? I'm doing my best to brush up but I barely made it out of highschool math.
Hey did you go through the academy? I’m in Haltom and about to start EMT-B and hopefully apply to academy after that. Or at least get everything in line so I can apply. I’d love to get on with FWFD.

I live in Canada. Would you recommend me brushing up on the stuff here as I can't find related questions for Canadian testing. I assume there are similar questions in American testing as far math concepts go.
Hey Marlon, good question, I don't really know much about the Canadian tests, however I would assume the material is the same or at least very similar. So ya, can't hurt to brush up on this stuff

Don't we add when we are looking for the hypotenuse side and subtract if we are looking for other sides when we have the Hypotenuse side already? Theorem of Pythagoras
Are all these similar to the NTN and FCTC if you are familiar with those

Why not just take it , it has to be done
yes fire academy is usually 4 months long and your fctc is good for about 12 months. so taking the test prior would be a waste of 4 months

hi mate how are you? i have question i was trying to do 3.14 x 5.5 and i didn't get the same answer as you unless im doing on my phone calculate. Is the result precisely or approximately ?
Hi Amanda, which question are you referencing? Also, are you using 3.14 as an abbreviated version of Pi?

Hi Amanda. I got it the same answer as 17.27. here is how i do on paper
3*5=15
3*0.5=1.5
5*0.14=0.70 or 0.7
0.5*0.14=0.070 or 0.07
then add up all 4 numbers 15 + 1.5 + 0.7 + 0.07 = 17.27
