    Hi Mike, thanks for these videos. I'm using them to prepare for some upcomming CPS tests. Really useful. Something I noticed for question #3) 12 / 48 = X / 144... I understand the point is to show the same principles apply to larger numbered fractions as well as smaller ones. I was experimenting and noticed that you can reduce the first fraction 12/48 to 1/4 by dividing the top and bottom number by 12. It makes the division a little easier (144 divided by 4, which is 36).
    Not a big deal, but it did make it faster and less intimidating for me. I thought it might help some of your other followers as well.
    All the best and thanks again!

    Finding X in 2/3=x/12 can be done much easier than the way you're doing it.
    All you gotta do is divide 12 by 3 (the denominators) giving you 4 then multiply 2(the numerator given to you) by 4; giving the answer x=8

    I haven't looked at algebra in 25 years. Really great refresher explanations. With the word problems, how do we know how to set up the fractions? In the Dave/Steve problem it is pretty obvious, but in the last problem, how do we know that 36 goes over 360? I might have thought that X goes over 360, reading it as how much time (X) does it take to fill 360 gal? Obviously that's wrong because 36 gpm divided by 360 gal = 0.1 time. But I don't want to waste time during the test setting the problem up wrong.

    • @Stuffandthingstoknow

      You will be able to work out the problem if you’ve practiced similar problems beforehand.
      Go slow at first to get the method then speed up.

    Hey mike I just took my test and I’m not sure if I got the answer to the following question right: you are traveling 40mph how long would it take you (in minutes) to travel 6 miles? Thanks

    • @aircanada143
      @aircanada143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      So you know it will take you 60 minutes to travel 40 miles, so 60 divided by 40 is 1.5, you are traveling 1 mile in 1.5 minutes. So 6 multiplied by 1.5 is 9. It would take 9 minutes to travel 6 miles. (Cross multiplication is probably better but I did it this way)
