I have this done it was awful painful and humiliating left me feeling very upset and in pain, when asked to do it once more i said no way once was enough never again .
No way will my husband go through any procedure like this. Has been embarrassed enough for surgeries and procedures including angiogram by female nurses , scrub techs and cnas. He said he will never even have another colonoscopy. Why don't urology centers have all male centers staafffed with all male nurses and other non physician staff. Seems only fair and morally right. Women get this respect. Time for men to get the same respect.
FL DP, if you think about it, men haven't gotten respect from the American healthcare system since the rise of the modern day feminist movement back in the early 1960's when they took male radiologist out of mammography and male nurses out of L&D areas. The system has lost all ethics, morality, compassion, and empathy towards male patients they prove it daily and society doesn't seem to care that because of that, many men (husbands, dads, boyfriends), all die sooner than they should & it's all because of the way they are treated by the medical community. The double standard in health care .. it’s time men speak up and make them change. If every man refuses female nurses and doctors for intimate procedures how long would it take for the healthcare system to change.. not long
I agree.. I go to most all of my husband's Dr. Appt.. but there is great discomfort if a female is doing procedures. Dr & nurses do not understand males for certain procedures do not take on consideration their modesty.
These exams may indeed need to be done but they are invasive both physically and mentally. How doesa patient know if the are getting autonomic Dix or what ever you said to tell the nurse .Your last statement I’d not correct . It is not a simple and easy test for the patient. Have it done yourself and then see will you still give the same guff.
I had this done every six months all throughout my childhood. Easiest test ever. Played games they provided the whole time. No pain whatsoever. Never felt the catheters because they are so thin.

I was worried about the test, but it was way easier than cystoscopy. Cystoscopy was painful during and after, but urodynamics was a cinch. I dread the thought of doing cystoscopy again, but urodynamics wasn't bad, and it yields valuable information. The catheters are very thin, and you barely notice them.
Thanks, have I understood correctly, do they empty your bladder after the test? I have incontinence issues and if I had to get up of the table and go pee, I would lose the whole bladder full as I sit up. I'm already stressing about this. Thanks
If you didn't pee the amount that they filled your bladder during the procedure they will scan your bladder and if it's more 300 ml then they'll cath you.
I was in tears and dr still ramming rod through at least provided a good show for the nurses absolutely no privacy could have had it done in staff canteen probably less females around
Imaniguana, I hope you had male caregivers if you are more comfortable with males than females for such intimate testing and that you have recovered from your urodynamics ordeal. What irks me the most about these types of procedures, is that the patient's physician orders the test but never fully tells their patient how the test is done, & just as important, who will be running the test. Many men prefer same gender care givers for male specific intimate exams, tests, or procedures. By not telling the patient ahead of time what the test they are ordering fully entails & who will be running it, the physician is preventing their patient from making a truly informed decision as to whether to proceed with what the doctor has ordered. Again, hope your ordeal is over & the results are that you're okay. Regards, Raffie
The simple reason your gp doesn’t tell you about the procedure is you would be less likely to ahead if you knew the how bad you are treated especially if you are male.My friend had kidney stones removed and was not told about waking up with tube hanging from his penis .This tube was removed by a woman 5 days later .Also a tube was removed from bladder /kidney a week later with further embarrassment.Look at all these medical procedures there are more women wandering around than at a Chippendale show as the guy is totally exposed
Hi Robert: The fact that it is such an intimate medical procedure is all the more reason for the medical community to stop hiding what's involved & who will be in attendance at the time of the procedure. I agree that female healthcare workers do hang around more than they should whether they care to admit it is another thing. I've personally seen it happen. I agree the GP doesn’t tell you about the procedure because any modest man would have to really think about going forward with this test without certain protections. But the flip side to not telling the patient what's going to happen & who will be in attendance is the patient cannot make a truly informed decision on whether to go forward with it. I have no problem with men who have no issues being intimately exposed in front of female medical personnel. That's their choice & I respect it. What I do have a problem with is those guys that say if you don't like being exposed in front of the opposite sex, you are a wimp & your gay. We need all men standing as one with their family members & yelling to the rafters like the women did at the rise of the feminism movement back in the mid 60's we demand change. There needs to be developed by Health & Human Services with input from men, a set of mandatory protocols of what will happen when female healthcare personnel are dealing with male patients presenting with intimate medical issues. In order for the protocols to be effective they must be accompanied by mandatory severe consequences from the first offense. Women don't realize that their fathers, brothers, husbands, and sons are walking away from needed healthcare simply because they are tired of being humiliated & embarrassed by female healthcare workers. It happens more with each passing day & the healthcare system could give a rats ass about it. They are blatantly trading men's lives for the almighty dollar every day. Regards, Raffie
The NHS is a bit of a joke in the U.K., but I've now had six 'intimate' procedures with mixed staffing, and have always been treated with care and respect. At my last test, a urodynamics study, all three staff were female, and they could not have been kinder, more caring or Professional.
It's only simple and easy for the staff. Of course it's easy for them. They completely ignore the sheer hell they put their patients through. It's time we end these barbaric procedures.

Healthcare always talks about how important Informed Consent is. Case in point besides this test are are colonoscopies. In order for a patient to make a true informed decision you must provide them with the who, what, when, where, & how each & every time even. Even if by telling them it results in the patient saying no & walking away to look somewhere else or doing it make you feel its a waste of your time. Wait until the day comes & its you in the bed. This isn't about making it convenient for the healthcare system. It's about giving the potential patient as much information as THEY feel THEY need so that THEY can make a truly informed decision. Remember, most people don't know what to ask. So, you have to be forthcoming with everything (like it or not), until they say they've heard enough. Regards, Raffie.
