    Just one correction: MLX90614 accuracy is not very high - it is 0.5°C, but you can get version with accuracy of 0.2°C (not 0.02°C) in a limited temperature range around the human body temperature. However this is still very cool and useful project!!

      Actually we can calibrate the sensor in code part comparing the reading of any standard sensors.

      @@HowtoElectronics Interesting, I was not aware of this. So, after calibration you can get better precision? In that case this is excellent!

      @@HowtoElectronics Actually even with offset compensation, and the sensor Emissivity set to "0.98" according to it's datasheet "for human skin", it's still inaccurate!
      However I got my hands on the MLX90614ESF-DCI (supposedly medical grade) and it's accuracy is not what I expect.... even tho this is little more stable than the regular one....
      My code has some functions that will get some samples (10 to 50) and calculate the average temperature, and even with that it's not working 100% of the time as expected (that's because I'm using a medical IR thermometer to compare the measures and adjust the offset!)
      One interesting point is the medical IR thermometer, the internal sensor is a little small than the MLX90614, and it has only 3 pins, so it may works with PWM... not sure...
      I may try to reverse engineering this thing one day...

    Cool project, but if your friend is 30 degrees Celsius he is a rapidly cooling corpse. Is there way to correct the temperature offset?

      Actually he was sitting in front of the Air Cooler and room temperature was around 27deg.
      For calibration we have to compare the value of some standard thermometer and add some calibration factor in the code.

    Awesome great project. Very useful during Covid-19. You could have made this video few months back, that would have been great.

    thanks for sharing. Does the MLx90614 have a duty cycle? can it be left on for 24/7 for temp logging with out burning out the IR.
    thank you

    can we use ISB-TS45D sensor instead of MLX90614 sensor because MLX one is too expensive??

    • @HowtoElectronics
      @HowtoElectronics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use any sensor. But you need good programming skill to use that sensor with microcontroller.
