Been a fan of Tool and Maynard for years. Discovered this album 4 years ago in a mental health facility. I have a daughter now and soon to be wife. Life gets better. I had a tooth pulled yesterday and it was pretty brutal. No pain relief. Been up all night going over this album again. The level of connection to emotion and pain these guys have is unmatched.
It’s not unmatched, for sure….but it’s highly in the stratosphere. ❤

Sometimes an album takes a few listens for it to finally sink in. initially I didn't like downward spiral, after about a month it slowly became one of my favs.
I agree totally, if I get the album I don't like, I put it up on the shelf for a little while, then go back and you can't stop listening. (Like u said) 🤘✌

Reality is this: telepathy (love) VS authoritarianism (fear). Focus on telepathy (love) at all times. This is anti-authoritarianism. Authoritarianism is both selfishness and lying (head games). Love is both honesty and respect (telepathy). An individual can only chose telepathy or authoritarianism. All of the authoritarians (conservatives, Christians, violent men, support for violence) are cowardly, so they look for an IMAGE of strength (bullying). REAL strength is fearlessness over telepathy. Image conscious individuals stay with authoritarianism because they are too afraid to do the right thing socially, and / or stick up for people doing the right thing socially. All strong individuals are both independent and focused on telepathy. Weaker minds group together, share fear, and bash stronger individuals socially. No one is really an introvert or an extrovert. Independent minds (those that express honesty at all times in all ways) appear introverted. They avoid conflict and drama socially. They reject fear shared by others. Conformist minds (those that lie socially to fit in and judge kindness and honesty in others) group together and share fear for an IMAGE of social strength mentally as individuals. Some people think thoughts of love, stay independent, and watch others socially. Others think thoughts of fear, let their minds race, and group together because they are afraid of being attacked socially. These individuals attack others for social independence (those that express more honesty - which is NO SUPPORT for human violence). This is exactly what is happening in society. CONFORMITY is the refusal to grow psychic out of fear, which drives the mind angry (mentally ill).
When men give attention to those that they know are nothing like them in the mind, and the other person is avoidant, they are sharing jealousy, lying, and resentment. They want others to feel unfriendly while they smile. The idea will never work. They act this way so that other people will judge them socially so they can get “power”, which isn’t real at all. When people lie about what they are on the inside and focus on acting skills and head games, it creates anger (judgement) in others. It gives some personalities a false sense of “power”. When people share the same ideas mentally, and they are kind, then smiling (joy) is authentic. Everything else is forced acting, which is awkward, stressful, and strange. Love (honesty and respect) is the only TRUE version of reality. Love is telepathy.
Christian men are being trained to hate on women since childhood. Christian dads set a poor example for all youth with violence and machismo. They hate their daughters especially. They train their sons to bully. It’s time for this BS head game (materialistic, shallow indifference and anger) to end for good.

Took me a couple listens but this is one of my favs off this album. This whole CD is about what I expected from APC. They always did things a bit different from everyone else.

I have been listening to Maynard since I was 16, I'm 39 now. All I can say, is all music changes with time. I think it's a great album, if you don't like it don't listen to to it, it's that simple, plenty of music even for the haters. 🤘✌
Love this new sound from APC. This track in particular hits home. My whole life, I've had to deal with people who would position themselves on the opposite side of my beliefs, just by default. One, she LOVED to debate, and that was her method of starting one.
Those people are f-ing energy vampires, and they'll drain you dry for nothing more than the satisfaction of being "right".

No matter how much time has passed, no matter if there is a change in style/sound....talent is talent. Maynard and every band he collaborates with are talented. This is a joy/sorrow/heated thing to listen to. Music is made to evoke emotion. This album gets the fucking job done.

The beginning cap of the enunciation of contrarian and the end make the rest of the lyrics flow with the song. One of my favorite songs of all time it's a show of a very talented vocalist of course the instruments but the way it flows it's great

This song takes me to a medieval magical dark fairytale land of abandoned castles and and Maynard voice seem to take on a character of a mysterious dark medicine man on this track to me

Holy shit man, the vocals for this song are something else, if you run it on studio monitors and have some understanding of voice theory it is a mind blower. He is resonating in multiple places, way in the head, in the nose, in the chest.... really amazing by these vocals. Coool fucking style. It is boring if you have a closed mind.....

Dark masterpiece
Expecting a band that hasn't released an album for 14 years to do stuff like the old records is almost unreal. Humans experience and evolve, and thus their art won't remain the same. Love it or hate it, but I think is better to keep an open mind with this album, I am now an addict.

I love all the "this sucks, can we get the new tool album already" people. What are y'all gonna do/say when the new tool record sounds nothing like their old stuff too? That was over 10 years ago as well, it won't sound anything like 10,000 days. Don't get me wrong, I love both bands, but you can't listen to this stuff with a decade+ old album on your mind.
Richard Speir I totally agree with you. My problem with this record is just that I think it is sub-par to the previous records. I'm glad that they changed, but I'm not happy the record is not as good as it could. The album sounds really rushed and the production is really bad imo. To each it's own but I don't think people are disliking it just because it's different. I genuinely think it's bad.
