If you can't hear the echo at the beginning, you're not playing the song loud enough. Adjust your volume accordingly.

That's all Tool songs. The Drums and Bass aren't just rhythm that supports guitar riffs and solos. They're front and center as much or more than the guitar. They're one of the greatest rock bands of all time for that very reason.

yeah dude, people discount the bass as just support sounds. but if you take the bass out of any song that has it, the song sounds hollow and tinny.

In my opinion, this the best song to introduce people to Tool with. The catchy riffs and the 4/4 time signature make it more accessible to a wider audience, but it's still got the same complexity as the rest of Tool's discography. It's a pretty straight forward rock song for the most part, but not too straightforward that it's bland or boring.

10,000 Days is incredible. The groove on this track is insane. I’ve seen people say “oh the pot is just the radio song.” Who cares if it was a little more radio ready, this stuff rocks all the way to the bank. And in 2006-2007 Vicarious, The Pot, and Jambi were the best things on the radio at the time and I’ll never not think that. And yes I have a personal connection to this album but I really do believe it to be one of their very best.

Didn’t see any lyrics posted, so here:
Who are you to wave your finger?
You must have been out your head
Eye hole deep in muddy waters
    You practically raised the dead
Rob the grave to snow the cradle
    Then burn the evidence down
Soapbox house of cards and glass so
Don't go tossin' your stones around
    You must have been high
    You must have been high
    You must have been
Foot in mouth and head up ass so
    Whatcha talkin' 'bout?
Difficult to dance 'round this one
'Til you pull it out, boy
You must have been so high
You must have been so high
Steal, borrow, refer, save your shady inference
Kangaroo done hung the juror with the innocent
Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
Got lemon juice up in your eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
You must have been high high
You must have been high high
Who are you to wave your finger?
    So full of it
Eye balls deep in muddy waters
    Fuckin' hypocrite
Liar, lawyer; mirror show me, what's the difference?
Kangaroo done hung the guilty with the innocent
Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
Got lemon juice up in your eye, eye
When you pissed all over my black kettle
    You must've been...
So who are you to wave your finger?
Who are you to wave your fatty fingers at me?
You must have been out your mind
    Weepin' shades of indigo
    Trapped without a reason
    Weepin' shades of indigo
Liar, lawyer; mirror, voyeur, what's the difference?
Kangaroo be stoned. He's guilty as the government
Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo
Got lemon juice up in your eye, eye
Now when you pissed all over my black kettle
    You must've been
    High
    High
    High
    High
    Eyeballs deep in muddy waters

You look young. These guys popped up in the early/mid90s. I was a sophomore in college and recall someone spinning OPIATE -- before the song "Sober" came out and helped the band become popular. OPIATE is still my favorite of all of their albums and really captures their energy. They definitely evolved and their music became more complex and to me, they are arguably one of the most overall talented bands of all time. The guitar and bass (or vocals) don't get as much credit as deserved because Danny Carey is a fucking ROBOT. The best part? MJK was a stand-up comedian before rising to popularity as a singer. Check out some of the early episodes of MR SHOW (starring Bob Odenkirk and David Cross). =-)

    TO: MAYNARD,
I recently re-posted a huge fan favorite unofficial video to "The Pot", but it was removed due to a copyright strike placed by Rico Management. The video was known to your fans as "The Snail Video" and had over 10 Million views upon first posting. My post was up less than a week and already had almost 2,500 views.
What I am seeking is direct authorization from you to repost this video, or for you to repost it yourself. I will even send you the video if that's what it takes. I'm not looking for recognition. The fans love that video, and the fans (myself included) are why I reposted it.
Please let me know if there is any possible way to post this video that will satisfy both the fans and yourself.

"Now you're weeping shades of cozened indigo. Got lemon juice up in your eye."
One of my favourite lyrics of all time. Unbelievably powerful and intelligent.
It's up there with "Feeling eternal, all this pain is an illusion."
Everything about The Pot is fantastic. The guitar, the drums, percussion, THAT bass, and the incredibly intelligent and profound lyrics that are bitter without coming across as bitter.

    • @akeustis

    • @philyates7670
      @philyates7670 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

@@akeustis "Weeping shades of cozened indigo." Cozen means fake and indigo is a dark purple, the colour of bruises. So Maynard is accusing the person of wearing fake injuries.
"Got lemon juice up in your eye." The cause of the weeping. But on the other hand by squeezing lemon juice into your eye you'll hurt yourself.
So in a nutshell Maynard is telling the person that in wearing fake injuries to appear to be a victim, they will only inflict pain unto themselves when the truth comes out. But in true Maynard style he doesn't just come out with it, he uses this amazing example of descriptive language to convey the same message in an amazingly intelligent way. It fits in with the whole theme of The Pot. Crying Wolf. Lies. Hypocrisy.

Saw them back in 2002. Amazing band. Went and saw Rush months later who were even better live. Oh to be young again and live moments like this.

I've been a fan for yrs..but it wasnt until the concerts from this yr
.that I realized how insanely talented they are. Each one of the band members are above and beyond. 🤘

Can we just appreciate how much vocal control this must take? 1:56

It's a cool run, but not that much vocal control is needed. There are many, many more impressive parts in the song that make Maynard a GOAT

I’ve just read part of an interview that Maynard did with Rolling Stone in which he was asked which tool song did he think would be the best introduction to the band for a new listener and he said the pot. That’s why I’m back here to have a(nother) listen to this great track.

Go watch a reaction video compilation by this guy Derek. All people discovering tool through this song. It's glorious to watch them get taken on that ride.

I slept on Tool all through high school. I was a scene kid that thought anything on the radio was poser sellout nonsense. And I’m actually glad I did sleep on them, because I love this music so much and get a chance to enjoy it later in life, when my brain is fully formed. It’s absolutely amazing music.

I have never heard Tool on the radio here in UK.

    • @TheYetzerHara
      @TheYetzerHara ปีที่แล้ว

@@Punkz83 that’s odd to me, usually the UK picks up on most of the niche “underground” stuff fairly quickly. But tool WAS pre’ish internet days. So I’m not sure if that’s what kept it from crossing the pond.
      Did you guys have MTV?

    • @Punkz83
      @Punkz83 ปีที่แล้ว

@@TheYetzerHara The UK did on cable TV, but not me personally... we were a working class family and could not afford such luxuries, but the radio was on all the time.
