That's why Sandor stopped her and had that conversation with her. He was essentially saying "Look at me (i.e. my burnt face), don't become like me (consumed by flames and fueled by hate". The Hound had lost to his demons but he didn't want Arya to have the same fate as him.

    I mean how dare the person who was almost having a glee-orgasm when Khal Drogo was yelling about raping & murdering the people of Westeros in season 1, the same person who in every season expressed her disdain for the Baratheon-Lannister-Stark allaince that overthrew her father, the same person who in season 2 said her dragons will one day burn great armies to the ground, the same person who's literal endgame vision we saw in the last episode of Season 2, the same person who went around the cities of Essos massacring, crucifying, burning, feeding to dragons, the noblemen... the same person who burned to a crisp the Tarlys after they had surrendered, who kept telling us how her ONLY purpose in life was to capture the throne etc etc......I mean how dare that person actually follow through with where her character was ALWAYS headed, and not fulfil the wishes of the fanfic shipperdom buy turning into some one-dimensional goodie-two-shoss Cinderella princess who selflessly gives up her throne to a long lost cousin, and rule happily ever after in a sappy tearjerking Disney ending. Or better yet, she should've died in childbirth to fulfil my very typically nonsensical reddit theories where I pick something super obscure & say this is the key to everything . "But oh she was killing bad people"....Well did you hear Tyrion's explanation to Jon? It's almost like those terrible writers anticipated your point. The single-minded purpose & zeal of revolutionaries (remember Cersei talking to the Iron Bank guy in season 7?) often turn them into the same tyrants they fought all their life to overthrow because ruling is very diferent from trying to overthrow a ruler. This is a fairly common (& well-substantiated) historical trope. Dany never "turned mad suddenly", in her mind she was convinced she was doing the right thing till the very end, that was the biggest tragedy of them all. I mean how dare she actually succumb to her always evident ruthless ambition? Shoulda just gave Jon a couple cute Targ babies & called it a day. Who needa to portray a non-romanticized, non-desensitized, version of war & hammer in the show's focal message since the days of Robert : that there are no good wars and good rulers, when you can just have a beautiful Jonerys wedding & let them ride off to the sunset happily ever after. I'll surely sign an angry petition to the White House to reverse this injustice (lolol).

    • @eadred9164
      @eadred9164 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just came to reiterate that the more time passes the more I love everything about the last 2 episodes. The thematic grandeur, the majestic visuals, the beautiful dark twisted Shakesperean tragedy, everything from the Hound and the Mountain in a flaming inferno, to the "terrible beauty" of the wintery throne room with Jon and Dany's poignant McBeth-esque ending, to Cersei being crushed by the weight of her empire, to the very weaknesses of Dany & Cersei being Sansa's strength, as foreshadowed by GRRM all over the books, I love EVERYTHING. If I were to create a Season 8, I would do it exactly like David and Dan did, not some predictable goofy tropey nonsense revenge fantasy cringe bullshit like Arya wearing Jaime's face (YUCK) to kill Cersei, or Dany dying in childbirth or the Disneyest Disney sappy happy fanfic of them all : the show ending with a Jonerys wedding. I don't give a fuck about what plothole was left unexplained from an unfinished book series thats almost 5000 pages long. The show from the very start has been hammering in the point that it's futile to put your hopes on 'good monarchs' & 'good saviors', as power without accountability can never truly liberate. But people just needed that #TeamGoodGuys chopping off some #TeamBadGuys heads and do cartwheels on top of the throne, so they can cheer over pizza & wings like a superbowl sunday. People love a desensitized, romanticized war epic. People HATE when they don't have a clearly defined side to root for. It's like Blackwater: I want Joffrey to die, but Tyrion to live. Why can't the High Sparrow die but Maergery somehow survive. Field of Fire: love Dany burning the Lannisters but why does Jaime & Bronn have to be there. Robert was a fair man, but why didn't he punish Tywin for killing the children (almost as if killing the children was a necessary evil of winning the throne). Yep, it's all shades of gray, not black n white. People hate those moral dilemmas of Tyrion saying goodbye to Jaime (what a heartwrenching scene btw). Those situations of amiguous loyalties that cut through families & put brothers against brothers (like actual civil wars do) really frustrate fans I noticed. Why can't all the good guys be on the same side??? That's it. 90% of the rage & disappointment didn't happen because of niche ASOIF reddit theories about book stuff like Azor Ahoi or Jaqen, cause casual fans really don't care about that stuff, it all boiled down to 'ZOMG DRAGONZ' not getting a happy ending. Fans had already written the story in their heads, so when they didn't get the fanservice they're so used to getting, it became a whole shitshow of rage. Never seen so many people so infuriated by someone doing exactly what they've been doing for 7 seasons: ruthlessly kill people who stood in her way cause she believed in the end justifying the means. The real mistake the show made was that it got too big for its own good to pull off a bittersweet tragedy. It's like reading Shakespeare to your dog.

    • @eadred9164
      @eadred9164 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lesson of the story has always been 'power without accountability can never truly liberate', but people are usually too busy with OMG DRAGONZ to care about the subtleties & nuances. This is my thoughts on everyone losing their shit over Dany's arc. Firstly, we shouldn't forget that in her mind, Dany never "turned evil". No, she didn't "become Hitler" & other dumb bullshit. In her mind, she was convinced that she was doing the right thing till the very end. And that's the biggest tragedy of them all : it's a mass murderer who is convinced at the righteousness of their cause & commits atrocities as they believe the end justifies the means. Her savior complex got bigger & bigger as she started 'liberating' more people. Historically, there's a lot of precedence of revolutionaries, who were convinced by the absolute righteousness of their cause, resorting to extreme brutalities for the 'new world' they were trying to create. And in the process they sometimes start resembling the tyrants they were trying to overthrow (Robbiespeare and the Reign of Terror comes to mind obviously). Cersei told the Iron Bank guy that Dany was more a revolutionary than a queen. And Tyrion's explanation to Jon, "wouldn't you kill anybody who stood b/w you and paradise?", was alluding to this exact concept of 'end justifies the means'. Dany didn't really "turn evil", she was the same self-righteous person with a single minded purpose of liberating Westeros from what she perceived as an oppressive system. People lose their shit when she says "they don't have a choice", but in Season 4 when everyone loved that famous "I'm gonna break the wheel" line, she literally also said "they can either live in my new world or die in their old" (a book quote btw). Well, guess what, new worlds are never created without a bloodbath. That's exactly what Aegon the Conqueror did....burn cities & castles to the ground (Dorne). The show runners didn't do a flippant, moralistic turn for shock value, they signalled the red flags throughout the seasons, Dany remained consistent in her ideology. Dany's the same person who had a glee-orgasm as Khal Drogo was swearing he will rape & enslave everyone in Westeros, the same person who said in season 2 "my dragons will one day burn great armies & great cities to the ground"(a book quotation btw) & did it in the Field of Fire, the same person who overkilled by crucifying all the Meeranese or Astaporian nobles or burned entire Khalesars to submission, the same person who burnt the Tarlys after they had surrendered to instill fear, it's just that in Westeros, her victims were the characters we had invested in for years. When I was rewatching the show, all I could think of was "I didn't even realize how ruthless & intolerant Dany was from very early on". The show has been hammering in the point from Day 1 that it's futile to put your hopes on 'good monarchs' or 'saviors', whether the most brave (Robert), the most able (Stannis), the most kind (Renly), the most just (Robb), the most innocent (Tommen), the most ruthless (Joffrey), or Dany, who was a combination of all of them, because absolute power can never truly liberate. But all that subtelty about nature of monarchs can be overbearing. The average fan just wanted to cheer like it's Superbowl Sunday as the #TeamGoodGuys chopped off some #TeamBadGuys heads & have a nice little 'Jonerys' wedding to end the show with little Starg children running around the throne room. Maybe a fuckin musical to top it all of. When they didn't get that sappy happy cliche Disney fanservice, they wrote angry White House change.org petitions (LOL). The real mistake the show made was that it got too big to pull off an unfulfilling, poignant tragedy whose main asset is a dark, twisted thematic & visual grandeur, when people just want those punch the air "YEAAAAH" moments. It's like reading Shakespeare to your dog.
      In one line, Daenerys is basically the tragic hero of a 'revolutionary thermidor'. She resembles a failed revolution getting eaten up from the inside as imagined by writers of the Reactionary Romanticism period, like Thomas Carlyle.

In the paradigm you outline, any number of outcomes could have stood as proofs. i am never for the disneyfication of any realistic drama. (perhaps why i prefer history and documentary to fiction) Fiction is very difficult to get right. At the point that they passed source material, the flaws grew like weeds, not that it ever was perfect. i would say, however, that the first 4 or 5 seasons approached literature, whereas the final 3-3.5 were more dime store novella. There wasn't a Yay! happy ending to the Sopranos, the Wire or Breaking Bad, but they were concluded at the level that they began. If anything, the GOT final 3 seasons were much more pablum than a study in how rulers and conquerors define themselves, and/or meet their demise.

    Signs Dany was going to become the mad queen..

    Her Red Keep vision of the throne room in ashes.
    Her decision to feed her dragons with enemies in Meereen.
    Burning the Khals.
    Burning the Tarlys.
    She decides to crucify 163 masters in retaliation without regard for their individual guilt or innocence.
    Meereen Revenge Plan-“I will crucify the masters. I will set their fleets afire. I will kill every last one of their soldiers and return their cities to the dirt. That’s my plan.” Tyrion talks her out of it.
    When Dany decides to “rule by fear” in episode 5 she’s making a choice to not simply claim the Iron Throne, but make an example of King’s Landing’s resistance and all those who might doubt her claim, a claim that she now knows isn’t the strongest one for the throne.
    There are so many more examples throughout all the seasons.

    The guy in the middle is giving too much drama on how he describe even the simplest scenes.

    the brother's dying together is poetic but i wish cersie had a bittersweet moment with jamie, like they were just footsteps away and can't meet when the whole place falls on them. and also why didn't qyburn wear his robe to his own funeral :P

    If Robert can become king and tywin hand after looting pillaging all innocents danerys can surely become queen

    • @YYchrisYY
      @YYchrisYY 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Danny has just killed hundreds of thousands of innocents for no reason at all other than she was angry... Robert became king to prevent this from happening and to take revenge for Lyanna. Tywin also killed innocent people to make people fear him but not even close to the scale that danny has killed... Tywin would kill a handful of people to send a message, not a entire city.

      @@YYchrisYY Robert enjoyed war he never cared for innocent. Technically he killed thousands and lead rebellion only to satiate his bruised ego. At that time no one knew mad king was going to burn them all so no he was not saving any city either.

    • @YYchrisYY
      @YYchrisYY 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nayanatopiwala8751 I wouldn't say he enjoyed war seen as how in season 1 he says " they dont tell you how they shit themselves before they die, they leave that out of the songs" his rebellion was because his best friends father and uncle were brutally killed by the mad king, and the love of his life was thought to be kidnapped and raped by Rhaegar. To say he killed thousands because his rebellion is unfair... those who joined him did by choice and those who didn't were happy to defend a man who laughed as people burned...
