Love the way you show step by step and the problems you encountered, It's real life and most of us will hit problems like this so thankyou Martin for showing it in all its glory.
Every 2 minute job is just 1 broken bolt away from a 3 day adventure 😂 Unbelievable difference then new wing & bumper make Martin 👌🏻 Young Jimmy is very talented 👏🏻👏🏻
I removed the mirror shear bolts by drilling a small pilot hole then knocking in a torx bit then winding out with a ratchet. There quite soft metal , I then replaced with stainless steel flange bolts
Happened to mine when I needed to fit a new mirror. So smashed the plastic casing off. Cut a slit in the bolt with a cutting disc and used a flat head screwdriver to get the bolts out.
That screw holding the bumper on is standard, 'cos the bracket has bust free from the plastic. It's also mandatory that the screw up under is destroyed & wont open. When removing/refitting the mirror bolts, stick some masking tape onto the end of the socket if they're alright - it holds them. Remember too, the wing coming off is scrap, so don't be afraid to use a grinder to chop it to bits. :-) Grinder is yer pal on that lower screw too - cut a slot in it & use a flat screwdriver. I do these endlessly at work & they're a bit of a pain tbh. Lining up the back tab (which will be bent in transit - excuse the pun - can also be very dull.
Hi Martin Gavin here I came down to the ragged apron this morning enjoyed a lovely breakfast. I was hoping you would be in..I had a look round woodhall spa..gorgeous place. I called into Sainsbury's. I drove down the road and seen your place..was going to knock on your door for a coffee😂. I signed your book and got a sticker..anyway hope everyone's ok..I will be down again in sept.. another breakfast..
Good work martin, ha ha I would have had a cutting disc on the grinder and chopped up that wing as its scrap anyway. Looking forward to the progress with the van
4:28, That's normal for mk7s, Ford used shear bolts so people wouldn't nick the mirrors. Reckon someone attempted to remove 2 originally and then gave up leaving the last one bolt. You were probably more careful than the last guy
@@retrorestore yep, I believe it was to protect the door wiring loom from being very accessible a security upgrade from the mk6 plus people pinched the mirrors
Wtf you fanning around at,cut the bloody wing off you've got a replacement anyway when you get to the mirror bolts pop out the recip saw or hacksaw blade easy pesy😊
After some of the comments slagging off the van in the last video, i really want to see this van turned around and made to look awesome
That's the plan!
Yeah agreed Martin will make it shipshape
Love the way you show step by step and the problems you encountered, It's real life and most of us will hit problems like this so thankyou Martin for showing it in all its glory.
The wing mirror bolts are sheer bolts from the factory, you can access the locking wiring loom to gain access.

That sheared bolt is a standard Ford Shear Head bolt. They were tightened up until they broke off to prevent casual theft.

Get the stainless ones out of there ASAP. The mild steel will rot around the stainless due to galvanic action.
As said snap bolts from factory , nothing like working on dirty/dusty cars/vans.well done guys another informative video for people 👍
Great job Gary and Martin enjoy watching your repair videos watching from South Africa
Well done Martin & Garry that was a sod of a job
Well done Martin, thanks for sharing the problems you had. That's real life.
Take care, Jeff
I cut the plastic on mine then glassed and sealed them back up. Been fine ever since.
Great video Martin & Gary. Your skills are endless. It's good to see a step by step guide to rectify the problems. 👌
what a pain ,great job martin and gary

Apparently, they added them in 2007 onwards
That vans definitely X rated... 50 shades of grey.
Well done Martin.

Nice one Martin glad you're back on the tools I'm here to learn 🤔👍🏻👌👏
thankyou Martin, great to see these regular restore videos, keep well,👌👍
they put shear bolts in from the factory....really annoying but it was to stop people using the wiring loom there to get in the vans
I had that same problem with mirror bolts snappes must be factory bolts
Nice one Martin, what a difference that makes 👍👍

Nice one, we were working on the garden.
Good work martin, ha ha I would have had a cutting disc on the grinder and chopped up that wing as its scrap anyway. Looking forward to the progress with the van

I didn't know that on the Mk7's My Mk6 came out easy.
Wow excellent job on the wing☺️
good blog martin Gary from Crewe 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Why didnt you show getting the mirror off and refitting the new wing?
We didn't take the mirror off, that's why.
Shear bolts are factory fitted Martin
Yes, i found out is was from 2007 onwards.
Lovely job, you might have got a die grinder in there at them broken screws to take the nib off.
The hole was too small but we got over it.
Well done chaps
very good martin t jari suomi finland🙂🤗🤗👍
Great job guys
THANK YOU MARTIN LOVE THE VAN VIDEOS
Glad you like them!
Top work. Cheers for the video take care
Spot on buddy! Enjoyed that x
My transit is fighting me atm with two broken abs sensor bolts
What a pain in the arse mate 👎🏻. That corner of the van looking mint 👍🏻
Great job 👍
Will you be using it as a van or doing a camper conversion
Its Jimmy's Van.
Think they had sheer bolts to stop from been stolen 🤷
Yes they were sheer bolts fitted from 07 reg.
👍👍👍. Thank you
The bolts in the mirror are from the factory they were all like that
Not on my Mk6, I presume the Mk7 is different then.
@@retrorestore yep, I believe it was to protect the door wiring loom from being very accessible a security upgrade from the mk6 plus people pinched the mirrors
i honestly thought that packing was a smuggled package :)
very tidy work Martin well done bud
nice one
Centre punch then 3mm drill bit some oil and then start drilling. With that 6 mm you won't drill anything
I did start with a smaller drill, I just didn't show it in the video.
Get the grinder out
Use a set of mole grips on the screw under the arch or tap it with screwdriver and hammer first to shock it 👍🏻
Yeah, I did shock it.
Great name Ivor 👍
😀😀😀😀
poor colour match to say youve access to a colour matcher
Wtf you fanning around at,cut the bloody wing off you've got a replacement anyway when you get to the mirror bolts pop out the recip saw or hacksaw blade easy pesy😊
You sound like a butcher lol
@@retrorestore no,just someone who knows what they're doing 😉
The trouble is when making a video, people would call me a butcher if we cut it off without showing the correct fixings. lol
@@retrorestore I think you'd get more credit and browny points showing common sense guv😉
Hi mate has the mk7 got a cam chain, or the new wet belt type, do you know .. Thanks in advance ...
I'm not sure, I would have to check.
