Obviously no bias in political candidates propriety, Cough ! but Christine Keeler wasn't in circulation as a born again liberation celebrity until 1963. Then we had a Labour majority who won support of the Government and in 1946/7 they declared a National Health Service. Then we all lived happily ever after till 2015.
How refreshing to see politicians being shyly stilted on camera. Dick Mitchison, of course, won very solidly with a majority of 6400, dolding until 1964.
Hearing Profumo at 8:16 I couldn't help but hear "Number Six" saying: "I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.""
The Isle of Man is not part of the parliamentary constituency map of the UK.

Members of the armed forces defeated Churchill because they disliked him immensely (according to author Edmund Wilson). The Government promised " Homes for Heroes" after WW I. They never delivered on that promise, and in 1945, the chicken came home to roost.
Profumo didn't do to well in his political career in later life in the now infamous *Profumo affair* Opening the ballot boxes made me chuckle, here in Ireland if one of the major political parties were doing badly in the voters count, surprisingly an extra few unopened ballot boxes would be found in Garda Station (Police Station) which would swing the vote for the major party.
Local council elections do not have deposits. For parliamentary elections, the lost deposit (currently 500 pounds) goes to the Treasury’s Consolidated Fund (CF). The CF was first set up in 1787 as ‘one fund into which shall flow every stream of public revenue and from which shall come the supply for every service’. It's basically a bank account for the government at the Bank of England. commonslibrary.parliament.uk/lost-deposits/
They didn't get married until 1954 by which time he was MP for Stratford upon Avon and was rising rapidly up through the Conservative Party ranks as a well connected and well regarded politician. The standing by him part is probably due to their having an 8 yo son at the time.
Best quote I heard about all this was from Christine Keeler... she said she was quitting politics because she had had a bellyful of the Tory Party...!!
No party names on the ballot, you had to know who the candidate represented
Just shows how stupider the electorate has become over time
Fabulous production. Historical gold dust.
I thought this would have been the end of John Profumo's political career. How wrong i was.
Profumious comment

Keeler would have been 3 at the time shown here, while Profumo was running for re-election...
@Victor Hunt. An apparently diffuse post: how are any of the assertions logically connected to one another in actual historicity?

Marvellous! A country that I once recognised as my own. Sadly gone forever...
Yes, Enoch Powell must be turning in his grave looking at England today.

Profumo is apt, i.e. the Profumo Affair in 1963

"The candidates take an interest in the youth of their constituency. "
Not words you'd want read out these days.
Profumo did even years later!
I love to watch black and white films
4:43 me whenever I’m offered cake
So which party won lads?
We have to remember if the Tory Party had been elected in the 1945 General Election, we probably wouldn’t have an NHS.
Problem with that is?
Should have kept your seatbelt on Profumo!

Just curious...if the candidate has to forfeit the 150 pounds, who gets the money?
Goes into that councils next election costs

Basically its a conspiracy by the main parties to penalize the little guy for entering the race.
None of the British people in this video have British accents.
Quiet incorrect. That is how British people spoke back then.
Astonishing Valerie Hobson married him in the first place and stood by him in the second.

Good grief, Profumo always was a nonentity.
And anyone who uses a forces commission honorific to their name is not trustworthy. My old man taught me that, still rings true.
