- At the Steven Universe panel during New York Comic Con 2019, Rebecca Sugar sang several songs from "Steven Universe: The Movie" with castmembers from the show. In this video, Sarah Stiles AKA the voice of Spinel, sings the lament of her gem, "Drift Away" with the help of Rebecca Sugar.

That could be the case, but I don’t think it’s that deep. It’s true she got a lot of praise from SU fans for her performance as Spinel, which is well-deserved, but Sarah is a Broadway performer. Being this talented and emotional and energetic when the scene fits when in-character is just part of the job, you know? She does a lot of other stuff, too, and she’s amazing in all her other roles, too! It all comes from years of experience and so is being able to bring out the right emotion in a moment’s notice.

If I am going to be honest, I started to hate pink the moment a single pale rose came out

I hate pink.
Who she evolved into as rose and later steven i respect she learned and accept what she did were mistakes.
As rose she was no longer burden by the faults of pink diamond she was rose quartz leader of the crystal gems. Fighting against the very oppression she took part in.
I still have mixed feelings about Pink even now, after the show has ended.
She was a spoiled brat who threw tantrums and caused destruction everywhere she went. Throwing a tantrum got her Earth, but it only ended up blowing up in her face, literally, upon discovering life exists on the worlds they're conquering. She finally decides to turn a new leaf, but can't even keep a composure of selflessness and critical thinking throughout the war, bubbling Bismuth and telling no one about it, faking her shattering to win the war - which gets almost every gem corrupted - and lying about being Pink Diamond in the first place.
She promises Pearl the world if she agrees to the one thing that will scar her for life, only to leave Pearl for a man she just met. She bore Steven and genuinely loved him, but never stopped to consider whether it was worth it. If it wouldn't come back to haunt *him*.
To be honest, no one has caused Steven more harm than his own mother. That's what makes me the most conflicted. All his trauma, his self-hatred, his suffering, was because of her, and her tantrums.
And yet, she was willing to give her life for everyone...

Like, she wasn't JUST a bad person, but she did horrible shit. Unforgivable shit. If Spinel and Volleyball are what we see, wonder how many people's life she ruined. I think even having Steven was selfish of her tbh.

The way she gets into character as she sings this makes it seems like all of this actually happened to her.
As a 53 year old I'm probably not your standard SU fan but my daughter and her wife got me into it a few years ago and I just love the show. I love all the songs but I think this has got to be one of the best, so heart breakingly sad, it makes me cry every time. I think too many of us can relate to how Spinel feels, so remember Be more Steven, not Rose

I love that they cast a Broadway actress! She’s trained in live theatre, so all her expressions are just naturally over the top. And that’s perfect for Spinel! But you can see that she reels it in when she needs to, like in Drift Away. It’s not over dramatic, she’s not sobbing, she’s upset. And you can just see her immediately getting into character! She’s so good! Sorry, Sarah Stiles is amazing.

You can tell how invested Rebecca is. This is the music from her soul. It's nice to see her care so much. This show is special and of course Rebecca is a huge part of it.

My son loves Steven Universe and I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. I also fell in love with Spinel then, too! So much emotion was poured into this song. It resonated with me in different ways, I guess.

First I was just watching it and listening to the song, but then I realized how hard it must be to sing in another voice than yours! On top of all of it, she also gave the right facial expressions and her whole body was conveying the role. It is so crazy to me, that she can fully slip into the role!

Adding acoustic guitars to the mix changes the mood of this song a lot, and not in a bad way. It makes "Drift Away" seem more like a sad country song.
lapis ,pearl and spinel went through the most suffering situations in their past, but i m so happy to see there misery drift away to a distant shore . now its over and they can move on no longer alone
