Despite having the mechanical arms, he wasn't 'Doc Ock' just yet. but, was teetering on the very edge of that fall. ..Normal Osborn gave him the final PUSH.

my favorite thing about doc ock and his character development is, it was not totally the neural interface what turned him into this. it just revealed the things that has been already there.
@@barisbal7782 His condition and hate for osborn (kept under control) peeled back layers already, the interface just finished the job. Not only was the interface driving him off the deep end, but the "limbic degeneraion" actually implied it was ACCELERATING his condition.
Actually, he had been planning the raft outbreak from the beginning of the game. Thankfully it was only a fantasy that was out of reach, until he put on the arms. Octavius says so himself. His egomaniacal and dangerous thoughts and inhibitions were always there due to his mistreatment from Osborn, but the neural network really set him free
My favorite part about this sequence is they dont hide the malfunction behind some cutscene. The player themselves has to run through Ottos work, and they are the ones who discover the errors and find out that Otto is destroying his brain by using those arms. It makes Ottos fall so much more personal because, in a way, you were the one who warned Dr. Octavius, and you were the one he ignored to bring down Osborn.
Like how the game goes deeper into how the arms were made. How they are a result of a neuroscience/prosthetics project Peter and Octavius were working on.
"Look, Doc, I really want to help you with this mind-altering machine you jammed into your brain without adequate testing, but my ex-girlfriend keeps trying to jump into danger like a damn adrenaline junkie, while some black and white cartoon-looking motherf*cker keeps trying to blow up the Bowery. Talk later? Thanks."
Doc Ock as a tragic villain has been done before, but I felt like it was a lot more poignant in this game. We come to know how much of a pure optimist Octavius is; despite financial uncertainty and the need for revision after revision after revision, he's confident that he and Peter will accomplish something special and, consequently, change a lot of lives for the better. He sees Peter as more than a protégé or a coworker, but as a friend and fellow idealist that shares his vision of a brighter future through robotics and science. I think that's what makes it all the more tragic as we see Octavius gradually fly too close to the sun, and plummet into villainy: You don't even end up hating Otto when all is said and done, but mourn the man he used to be.
I agree like I spent the whole part of this game like “we can fix this” and the final fight I hated having to take down Otto and their final conversation broke me they did well with this villain reveal
People are forgeting that what makes Ock bad is not being "controled" by the arms but the brain damage the electrical system of the arms makes which expose him to an enhanced sensibility to his emotions.
This story fucking Hurts me in such an emotional level, the friendship they have is real, that's why I loved this game cause at the end i felt heartbroken because i really wanted for Otto to come back.
3:54 I love that the test results show "yellow" for a 38.7% risk of seizures - apparently only risk factors of 90% of likelihood or greater are considered red flags lmao.
I really love how Otto's mechanical arms are in this game but I can't help but wonder how they extend out of his back. Believe me, I'm not complaining about them it's just that the logistics of it are baffling
I agree the logistics of it make no sense, ( no way something that large and heavy duty could fold up into the tiny back harness) but ahhh well... they sure do look awesome.
When Peter told Dr. Oc. that more time is needed and Dr. Oc. interjected saying, "WE'VE HAD ENOUGH" and struck the floor with one of the mechanical arms, I almost skipped a heartbeat.
Carnage Ock was a one time thing. He worked in that game cause the story was already over the top and cheesy, and the chase was scary af. But in modern era, it wouldn't work at all
@@puffpuffpassmako If the post credits scene of the new venom movie is anything to go by, they're going to dare to find a way to make it work. Am I the only one who actually liked the new venom?
A lot of people complain about the circuit rerouting minigame, but I feel it was worth it for this moment, when you go "Jeez, I've done all this stuff correctly before, it's not that difficult. Either Doc's mental state has deteriorated so badly he didn't even notice all these obvious mistakes, or he was so desperate he just bulldozed through without thinking."
It looks really good when he pours the drink. Nowhere near indistinguishable from real life, but I have played soooo many great looking games that, when it came time for a character to pour a drink, the graphics of the fluid always looked distractingly bad. I'm sure there are reasons and it doesn't bother me anyway, but this stood out as the best pouring sim I have seen on a console game that I can think of.
Although Doctor Octopus is definitely the main antagonist of the game, Norman Osborn serves a great overarching antagonist and Mister Negative a good secondary antagonist. If the secret ending is to be believed I think that the Green Goblin will serve the role of Doctor Octopus and Venom will serve the role of Mister Negative
the rise and fall of otto is crafted so beautifully into this story, you know its coming but you hold out hope. then the switch flips and you just watch as otto plummets into osborn killing murder mind and peter had the potential to save him but always seems to say the wrong thing

The simple fact that they made Otto so likable and made me think he was gonna be an aditional final boss (like Clayface in Arkham City) and catching me by surprise that he was behind everything all along is what makes this the best spider man story period!
I remember almost wanting to cry as soon as the second pair of mechanical arms came out. I could feel Peter’s failure and knew I was gonna have to fight Otto at the end
2020Surya S315 well though they have set him up I’d be fine with Osborn(as long he goes down hard, brutal, and satisfying) other villains I’d want are Venom(both Harry and Eddie Brock), Carnage, Mysterio, Lizard, Prowler(antagonist at first), Kraven the hunter, Hobgoblin, and I’d want Kingpin, Dock Ock, Electro, And Black Cat to return
Real_Slim_Shady they could come up with something related to Harry and his condition. From that concept it’s possible to scrounge up what empathy we can find inside Norman’s character and put a new perspective on the players. Then again I still prefer him as a total douche
I like how ps4 Dr. Octavius gave all he's got just to get the claws working, whereas spider-man 2 Dr. Octavius was just like "here's a demo of the sun in the palm of my hands and oh BTW nevermind these claws I just cooked them up so I can use them to play with the SUN"
It's funny because, in the comics, he's a mixture of the two. The arms were just something that he simply used to handle dangerous chemicals and radioactive substances from afar, which had already earned him the nickname "Doctor Octopus" (so like the 2004 movie). It's only after an explosion bonds his arms onto him and _damages his brain_ (so like the PS4 game) that he becomes a villain. Granted, at the end of the run where Otto had become Superior Spider-Man once again, it was revealed that he already had the personality of a villain and the brain damage had simply aggravated this predisposition. Though, my understanding is that the PS4 Otto secretly always believed himself to be superior as well.
“Thank You Peter, for… for everything.” This line and the delivery of this line carries so much weight and is executed perfectly, this was the last sign of Otto before he become Doctor Octopus
"Long term memory loss... frontal lobe-" "Those are really fun games that we play together!" "Doc, did you make a... self-destructive... prosthetic for yourself? "Mm-hm! Yeah! It's... really fun. You should try one." "Why would you do something like that?" "I'm bored! I was very bored! But now I'm not, see, I've- I got... more arms! Look!"
“ for the first time in my life I don’t feel like a failure, I feel like me” is such a great line because it shows how Otto is the nerd gone bad to Peter’s nerd gone good, Peter had a similar attitude when he first got his powers, only to be humbled by tragedy.
Playing this game and then going to NBA 2k or any other sports game makes me appreciate the work put into the graphics and realistic motions put into Spider-man
Otto is such an interesting character because it’s hard to tell when he’s being genuine and when he’s being manipulative. We know that by the time we meet Otto he experiencing small side effects of his degenerative neurological disorder. But what we don’t know is how long had he been planning his revenge against Osborn. During or before? It’s hard to tell because the game takes place around a month or two and it’s hard to pin point when Otto started working on it. But i have a feeling that it was always in the back of his mind. He never acted on it but definitely didn’t let go of the idea either. was he affected during or before the interface? it’s quite possible that the interface only amplified his disorder and his emotional state as well. I don’t know, I haven’t played the game in a while and maybe i’m missing some key points about his character but he’s definitely a very interesting and brilliantly written character as well.
Here is my take on it. I hope you don't mind me inserting Martin Li in here too. Like Martin Li, he clearly hated Osborn albeit for slightly different reasons. Both of them tried to move on from their respective problems with him and genuinely try to help people. Clearly they were both passionate about what they were doing and both of them clearly felt a connection with someone else (Peter for Otto, Aunt May for Li) to the point that they left behind a confession about what they were doing. Ultimately, they found that they couldn't escape Norman and their hatred grew as time went on. They also had certain things influencing them to help bring out their hatred (for Otto his disorder and the interface, for Li his demon which had stated he could no longer hold back) and increase it. So to answer your question, it seems that Otto at first was likely just bitter at Norman but as time went by he began planning to take revenge. We can see hints of his plans around the lab as time goes on and we can tell that he is getting more and more desperate. I think his desperation is out of a desire to have a success to counteract Osborn, to convince himself that he doesn't need to take revenge this way. That doesn't end up happing and eventually he like Li before him ends up giving into his hatred. The interface likely helped to remove any remaining inhibitions he might have had. Just my take on it.
i love how when the game first came out, we were all excited, but we were all like, "well, the Mr negative twist was sorta spoiled, so what else could this game-" and then we meet otto, and we're like "...oh"
When I first saw the arms, my heart sank...and it did more so when you could feel Peter's desperation and concern. I think it was cool they made Otto likeable...makes him seem even more like a tragic villain.

It was obvious what would happen, but man they made me think to myself, man I don't want this to happen. So much feelings between student and teacher struggling through success and failure, the way they admired each other, just added to the wait of betrayal.
This scene broke my heart.. the first half of the game and the trailers hypes My negative up as the main villain.. and Otto is such a very inspiring likable character in the first half of the game.. I thought otto was gonna be a villain for maybe a squeal but when you see the arms for the first time and see his personality change and all the way up to the boss battle it really touches your heart.. great acting plus plot twisting in this game.. possibly my favorite spidey story yet
This storyline of spiderman is the best. Perfect in every way.
It is pretty amazing
problem is can the sequel top this?

It’s obvious he was gonna turn to Dock Ock but I still felt bad for him because of his motivation and what he went thru to push his project.
Great storytelling.
I love how Otto starts off arrogant and volatile, temporarily goes to his old self at around 5:20, then goes right back into rage mood immediately after seeing Norman on tv. What great acting. The dude who voices Otto is absolutely fantastic.
What if Peter did this instead?
Peter: You know what this calls for a celebration. Come on let’s go grab a bite. Get your mind off things we’ll take another crack at it soon.
Otto: *thinks it over* You know what sure I could eat.

What's great about this scene is that in this moment, Otto is literally standing on the line
that divides him from the Noble Dr. Otto Octavius, and the villainous Doctor Octopus.
Despite having the mechanical arms, he wasn't 'Doc Ock' just yet.
but, was teetering on the very edge of that fall.

my favorite thing about doc ock and his character development is, it was not totally the neural interface what turned him into this. it just revealed the things that has been already there.
@@barisbal7782 His condition and hate for osborn (kept under control) peeled back layers already, the interface just finished the job. Not only was the interface driving him off the deep end, but the "limbic degeneraion" actually implied it was ACCELERATING his condition.

Damn wish I had robot octopus arms
Small ones though
And no damage to the brain and all that stuff
you have one! its your third leg ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Same my guy
blacks have third arms. they are tripods.
so no octopus arms then
Maybe if he gave the arms AI like in the movie it could potentially improve his mind if they were connected
I feel sorry for otto. he was a good man but the arms warped his mind.
it was more than that. Normon Osborn was shutting him down and taking Otto's work for himself
"Otto, You're not a failure"
Man... The way he talks.. He really cared about him.
I cant be the only one who was always scared shitless of doc ock 's arms ever since the old games right?
You probably are
Yeah ever since I seen him in action I always thought they were awsome
“Dr octavius” gives me chills every time some of the greatest voice acting I’ve ever heard
My favourite thing about Otto is that he'd always listen when you talk science with him. You can feel the passion seeping through
Like how the game goes deeper into how the arms were made.
"No, this tech doesn't have villain potential at all"
Do you see how they brilliantly used lighting to show the mood changes and dark/bright side of Otto?
I'm so impressed.
The sad thing is that this version of Otto actually seems like a really nice guy
Peter’s face shows mesmerizing emotion here! I can’t for the life of me see any need to change him.
Octavius bought tech from AIM and Hammer Industries! You may as well have duct tape holding those arms together cause that's what that amounts to
Dr Otto reminds me of Danny devito
@@7sidedmint136 what is this? Twins??

@@jedimojojojo1603 Yep!
Right
If the MCU ever decide to bring Doc Ock back; I WANT DANNY DEVITO
I was gonna say he kind of reminds me of Chevy Chase too.
People are forgeting that what makes Ock bad is not being "controled" by the arms but the brain damage the electrical system of the arms makes which expose him to an enhanced sensibility to his emotions.
When Sweet Victory is about to play at the Super Bowl but Travis Scott replaces it after the intro.

“Now run along. I suggest you leave me to my devices unsupervised.”
This story fucking Hurts me in such an emotional level, the friendship they have is real, that's why I loved this game cause at the end i felt heartbroken because i really wanted for Otto to come back.
This Dr Octopus looks like some average old man on the supermarket 😂😂
I remember seeing his jumpsuit hanging on the wall and his goggles on the desk and knew instantly; everything was about to go horribly wrong
5:16 You should’ve stayed to help him Peter.
Honestly I remember alot of people complaining about how short this game was, but for me it was one of the best written games ever
Whoever did the voice acting for Otto really made the character.
3:54 I love that the test results show "yellow" for a 38.7% risk of seizures - apparently only risk factors of 90% of likelihood or greater are considered red flags lmao.
Best superhero game I ever played! The characters, the music, the graphics, the gameplay, the story, everything!
I really love how Otto's mechanical arms are in this game but I can't help but wonder how they extend out of his back. Believe me, I'm not complaining about them it's just that the logistics of it are baffling
Maybe they made of nanomachine
Or maybe they retract like professional camera shutters.
And boy am I glad that Carnage Ock isn't in this game.
Don't forget the Atrocity from edge of time
How could I forget about that? Still think Monster Ock would of been much worse.
Let alone having Carnage appear.
I still have nightmares.
The acting in this game is just on point.
I still think outside of the comics, this or Spectacular is the best interpretation of Spider-Man
I love how even though the claws can be so destructive can even do the most delicate of tasks.
I made a lego model of this version of Doc Oc. I'm really proud of this creation, since it's an ultrabuild like version!😆
Fun fact Otto is voiced by the same guy who voiced Rigby on Regular Show
I swear, this game is better than every spiderman movies! The story, the characters, everything is so perfect!
Doctor Octopus and Mister Negative are both the main antagonists
"Check it out, a new prosthetic!"
"Nice... but why did you make them scary as fuck?"
the rise and fall of otto is crafted so beautifully into this story, you know its coming but you hold out hope. then the switch flips and you just watch as otto plummets into osborn killing murder mind and peter had the potential to save him but always seems to say the wrong thing
"It works beautifully! Take a look!!"

Otto: Everything has problems if you look hard enough.
Peter couldn’t even get past 24% without finding an error.
The simple fact that they made Otto so likable and made me think he was gonna be an aditional final boss (like Clayface in Arkham City) and catching me by surprise that he was behind everything all along is what makes this the best spider man story period!

2020Surya S315 which one? Better not be Osborn
2020Surya S315 nah but I hate Osborn and don’t sympathize with him at all. I mean someone like Killmonger, Black Adam, Syndrome, Ock, etc(imho)
The voice acting in this scene is amazing
“Thank You Peter, for… for everything.” This line and the delivery of this line carries so much weight and is executed perfectly, this was the last sign of Otto before he become Doctor Octopus
"Long term memory loss... frontal lobe-"
"Those are really fun games that we play together!"
"Doc, did you make a... self-destructive... prosthetic for yourself?
"Mm-hm! Yeah! It's... really fun. You should try one."
"Why would you do something like that?"
"I'm bored! I was very bored! But now I'm not, see, I've- I got... more arms! Look!"
We will miss you OG Peter Parker. Gone but not forgotten.
This looks real af. Its dope
“ for the first time in my life I don’t feel like a failure, I feel like me” is such a great line because it shows how Otto is the nerd gone bad to Peter’s nerd gone good, Peter had a similar attitude when he first got his powers, only to be humbled by tragedy.
4:50 before the bad things. Poor Otto. I feel bad for him and I understand him.
Never have I been so upset about a game being exclusive to one console
Ikr
This still better than the new remastered version
i love how when the game first came out, we were all excited, but we were all like, "well, the Mr negative twist was sorta spoiled, so what else could this game-" and then we meet otto, and we're like "...oh"
